The fragrant lawyer and Prof Rosa Freedman. The sublime and the ridiculous.

SoldiersinPetticoats · 29/02/2020 18:35

Perhaps Ms Hayden can address Mr Yellands point?

Thank you. I recognise some of those names. Will mooch on twitter for the others.

Binterested · 29/02/2020 18:57

Nicky Campbell had some very positive things to say about Dr Webberley at one point Hmm

NeurotrashWarrior · 29/02/2020 19:01

Just coming on to say that. Golly.

stumbledin · 29/02/2020 20:55

Sorry - never heard of this programme! Is it tv or radio and at what time? Thanks Smile

TheBewildernessisWeetabix · 29/02/2020 21:09

There is something absolutely chilling to me about the government and media positioning women's legal rights, women's human rights, as debatable and negotiable.

Niemoller:

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

BBC One at 10.30 tomorrow morning. Should be entertaining!

FloralBunting · 01/03/2020 01:43

I cannot think of anything less entertaining than listening to men 'debate' women's rights, tbh. I think I'd find it distressing to the point of cushions flying towards the telly to have to listen to that.

Jeanhatchet · 01/03/2020 07:33

@SoldiersinPetticoats are you calling Rosa Freedman ridiculous?

FloralBunting · 01/03/2020 08:23

Jean, the comparison was sublime and ridiculous - the lawyer was the other referenced person, and no one here would call that person sublime, so I think it's fair to say, no, Rosa wasn't the ridiculous in that equation.

SoldiersinPetticoats · 01/03/2020 08:38

Gosh no, my apologies if it reads like that. A clumsy choice of words. Rosa is not at all ridiculous.

BustedWench · 01/03/2020 09:34

Terrible taste in 'Friends' though

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 01/03/2020 09:51

The lawyer has been cancelled!

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/03/2020 09:53
Shock
sonicwassurprisinglygood · 01/03/2020 09:56

* The lawyer has been cancelled!**

Interesting 🧐

Cwenthryth · 01/03/2020 09:57

The topic for debate is “do women still need to fight for rights?”. I can’t imagine anyone answering that question ‘no’..... the debate may turn to what rights are being fought for, I guess.

GoonerProf - Professor Rosa Freedman, whom trans activists urinated on her office door for her speaking out on women’s rights, amongst many other incidents.

HelenPankhurst - great-grandaughter of Emmeline. I don’t know if she has expressed a public opinion on whether she believes TWAW and I think tends to be wheeled out to talk more about legacy and heritage more than anything else.

@SholaMos1 is [[https://www.drshola.com/
Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu]], phenomenal woman, dual-qualified US/UK lawyer, she was at least a few years ago quite celebrated within WEP - I saw her speak at conference 2018 when she was appointed to the steering committee - she’s still listed on the WEP website but makes no mention of it on her own website which is interesting. She was big in The Women’s March in 2017.

@flyinglawyer73 is Stephanie Hayden, notorious transwoman “lawyer” (spoiler - not actually a lawyer, no record of professional qualifications, and platforming SH alongside Prof Gooner and Dr Mos-Shogbamimu as if they’re somehow peers is hilarious at best) - this person is a serial bully of women standing for women’s rights, pal of Adrian Harrop, serial vexatious litigator bringing private prosecutions against women (men/transsexuals) SH disagrees with. Has a conviction for violent assault with a golf club. Summary of SH’s activities here www.womenarehuman.com/man-who-identifies-as-woman-lawyer-targets-gender-identity-disbelievers-with-job-loss-lawsuits-critics-say/ - fair warning, that link contains misgendering so don’t click if that offends you. SH has also sued Mumsnet before, btw.

@emmamrevell I haven’t heard of before. She’s commented “ All I've had in my mentions since this tweet went out is people arguing about trans women. Strange how people jump to this as the first "issue" that can think of facing women today”.

@EllaMWhelan is a Spiked online journo and has been tweeting #IStandWithSelina

Think the rest are there for the housing debate.

Cwenthryth · 01/03/2020 09:58

Um, which lawyer has been cancelled? The one that’s not actually a lawyer as opposed to the two respected & highly qualified female academics?

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 01/03/2020 10:00

The pretend one Smile

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 01/03/2020 10:03

oh that's a shame - sunlight and all that...

Taswama · 01/03/2020 10:06

I’ve just finished reading Helen Pankhurst’s book - Deeds not Words, Women’s Rights then and now . She mentions transwomen in every chapter but very much in passing.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/03/2020 10:07

Interesting, they claim they have been no platformed due to transphobes (I am paraphrasing). I very much hope that is not the case. I was very much looking forward to seeing Hayden speak.
