Well, not branded as story hour, but the drag queen is reading a story to primary school children... Brought in by an MP (Mhairi Black)

“Thank you to Flow and @MhairiBlack for sharing their experiences with us today. It was really important to hear about Section 28 and the negative effect it had. Thankfully now we teach #LGBTEducation proudly at @Glencoats_PS #LGBTQProud @LGBTYS @LGBTHistoryScot

I just caught a bit of the last discussion about Harvey Weinstein, where a woman called in and talked about the lack of safeguarding in schools back in the day when today's 40+ year olds were growing up. JV being all earnest concern about how shameful it was that kids were left so vulnerable. (The woman said that these days it would be totally unacceptable for males to wander into changing rooms and watch girls getting dressed, which male teachers used to do. IRONY KLAXON.)

I bloody hope JV can hold that thought about safeguarding for the next hour or so. I imagine it will get shoved out through a woke hole in his brain as soon as the magic words 'drag queen' 'inclusivity' and 'diversity' are spoken though.

Very interesting littlbrowndog. Thanks for the link.

JV constancy details if anyone fancies it?

I'm looking after chicken pox ridden kids and would get interrupted!

It hasn't been on yet.

Predictably, it's getting the shortest 'that's all we've got time for' slot.

(I've got to go out so my blood pressure is safe.)

Hertfordshire Council is running a drag queen story time for children aged 3 to 11. The performer is Ruby Violet. If you Google Ruby, one of the first results is their profile, in which they're described as a 'girl with plenty of spunk (mainly on her face)'

jadefinch · 25/02/2020 13:17

This is the response from the council to concerns

What would they do if any of the teacher's had that in their social media profile?
There is your private life and there is your jokey public declaration as to your sexual practices intended for adults only. Spoiler alert: kids can access the internet too.

WHY THE FUCK IS THIS A THING????

I know I’m repeating an earlier post but when will we see “Burlesque Story Time”?

Why the fucking fucking fuck are these bodies being able to get away with the conflation of LGBTQ+ awareness with adult entertainment?

It insults and compromises more than it includes. It benefits nobody and IMVHO makes a mockery of introducing the concepts of inclusivity and understanding of “difference”.

Fucks sakes.

TorkTorkBam · 25/02/2020 13:43

When a person is invited into schools or libraries the children will take the person as a role model. They are likely to trust the person if met outside.

Holding up adult entertainers as good role models for children is not appropriate.

It smacks of homophobia, of mocking gay people, not of inclusivity.

Small children are already inclusive of people playing dress up.

Odd debate on Jeremy Vine followed by strategically placed Pet Shop Boys.

Newuser123123 · 25/02/2020 13:52

Jesus will sort it

Newuser123123 · 25/02/2020 13:53

Can we campaign for the Pet Shop Boys to visit schools instead?

rogdmum · 25/02/2020 13:54

What an utterly bizarre debate.

Listening to Jeremy Vine...

This is a disaster

HipTightOnions · 25/02/2020 13:55

What a weird discussion. None of them seems to have the first clue.

Herocomplex · 25/02/2020 13:56

Ah yes, Jeremy Vine. Shedding light on these issues since forever.

HipTightOnions · 25/02/2020 13:56

Where has all this utter adoration of drag queens come from?

rogdmum · 25/02/2020 13:56

It’s gone in an absolutely batshit crazy direction which doesn’t reflect the concerns at all.

OP posts:
hoodathunkit · 25/02/2020 13:56

I find this comedy sketch to be extremely helpful in terms of helping the Wokerati to appreciate my concerns about the difference between being supportive of minorities and diversity and promoting overly-sexualised behaviour in an inappropriate environment

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/02/2020 13:57

The bbc is very pro trans. That JV doesn’t have a clue if he hasn’t taken the time to research independently he won’t have much of a clue. He also has massive UMC / white male privilege.
