Agrees that babies are born with a sex.

But says in response to Blair's comments about focussing on the trans issue that it keeps being brought up by the media and they [labour party] don't really want to talk about it because each time it's spoke about a trans person gets hurt.

Wtf? In what world can a party have a policy that they don't want to talk about?

OP posts:
BovaryX · 22/02/2020 11:35

You said every time trans issues are raised a trans person is assaulted Fact 1,650 Transphobic hate crimes were reported in 2019. In the same period 510,000 women suffered sexual assault and 1.4 million women suffered domestic abuse (Home Office figures). On this you are silent

This is an excellent point. Violent crime against women is increasing and yet there is silence from politicians on this issue. Why?

ArriettyJones · 22/02/2020 11:37

Butler's only real point is that it's all the media's fault for bringing this up. She 'didn't want to get into the Science

I bet she doesn’t Grin

TheRealMcKenna · 22/02/2020 11:39

Well today’s gem - if twitter is to be believed - is that accountants were invented to count prostitute’s money.

Ok Dawn, it’s beyond a joke now

Yep, she says it on a Pink News video clip. She keeps going on and on about why we need a serious debate about sex work in order to keep women safe. It’s interesting that we don’t need a debate about whether TWAW and its potential impact on women’s safety.

Every time she opens her mouth another Labour voter disappears.

Chiochan · 22/02/2020 11:40

I think one of the drivers is that this cause can be used by ambicious but talentless politicians as a ladder up to positians and media attention they would not otherwise have a hope in hell of getting. DB is a great example of this but I have also seen it at branch level myself.

I think that is absolutely true. It explains why it is embraced with such enthusiasm by talentless mediocrities.....

DidoLamenting · 22/02/2020 11:45

I suppose it's a step up from sitting next to Corbyn in the House, wittering on to herself (what exactly is she saying when she does that? Is she repeating the great leader's words of wisdom?) and nodding sycophantically at the great leader's every utterance.

Chiochan · 22/02/2020 11:47

DB is a carcrash, an absolute joke of an MP.
She know though that as a black woman running under the Labour banner in Hackney she will always be elected.

All this is just media attention to her, fun and games, she thinks she is getting her name out there, it is only a win win for her personally.
Its a tradegy when you consider all the actually tallented principled black women on the left. Truely sad times indeed.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/02/2020 11:52

The party is captured Chiochan.

I'm seriously thinking of joining labour again so that I can have a voice / add my voice in solidarity to everyone being put in this position.

But then I feel like doing that for the greens too.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/02/2020 11:54

(I've never been a Labour Party member but have thought about it a couple of times recently for this reason.)

ArriettyJones · 22/02/2020 11:55

That is one of the other upsetting aspects of this, though. Quite apart from the feminism and rationality angle. She is playing right into the hands of the racist scum who have targeted Diane Abbot (whose gaffes have clearly often been attributable to health issues) and adding grist to their racist, misogynistic mill.

Chiochan · 22/02/2020 12:02

@NeurotrashWarrior
After recent conversations I can confirm what we all know. Actual true believers are very rare. The thretning jobs and ott aggression and threats against any deviation from the script have been very effective so far and politicians at all levels have been too scared to speak out. Now is the time to let them know the public is behind them and we will support them becasue fence sitting is becoming untenable.

Chiochan · 22/02/2020 12:14

@ArriettyJones
Absolutly, its enraging when you compare her to women like Lucy Masoud or Allison Bailey or a hundred other working class black women who are genuine political leaders in their communities. I dont know how Labour ended up with her as an MP.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/02/2020 12:26

@Chiochan, exactly the same is going on in the Green Party. I know as a close relative has been on the shitty end as well as others I know.

I expect the Lib Dem's too.

andyoldlabour · 22/02/2020 12:33

It is quite interesting when you delve into the past of MP's and government advisors, to see how they interact and possibly contravene conflict of interest situations.
In 2018 Dawn Butler appointed Anthony Watson (A Stonewall ambassador) as an LGBT+ advisor to Labour - don't know what the gowing rate for that is, but I am pretty sure it isn't a freebie.
Three months later, Butler accepted a nine day trip to Los Angeles worth £14,200 for herself and a member of staff as a gift from Anthony Watson.
There is plenty of more stuff - expenses fiddling, porkies about homelessness in her constituency - all harmless mistakes of course.

Wow. It's just incredible. Thank you for posting that andy

Chiochan · 22/02/2020 13:00

Yep, good old fashioned corruption. Never forget that in the mix.

Languishingfemale · 22/02/2020 13:02

Thank you andyoldlabour. If you add in all the corporate hospitality, champagne dinners, special awards that Stonewall offer and politicians accept in clear defiance of the Nolan principles of public life, a pattern of buying influence clearly emerges.

For those interested, number 2, Integrity states:
Holders of public office must avoid placing themselves under any obligation to people or organisations that might try inappropriately to influence them in their work. They should not act or take decisions in order to gain financial or other material benefits for themselves, their family, or their friends. They must declare and resolve any interests and relationships.

DidoLamenting · 22/02/2020 13:03

I know Guido is biased but here's a bit more information about Butler's £14,000 fact finding trip to Los Angeles.

Here is Dawn having a jolly night out on a billionaire's yacht.

How does she still have a political career? If you did this in a multinational company, you would be sacked.

bellinisurge · 22/02/2020 13:11

Shit

DidoLamenting · 22/02/2020 13:15

Butler has declared the purpose of the visit [the £14,000 LA trip] as a “Women and Equalities LGBT fact finding visit“.

How could she say that with a straight face?

littlbrowndog · 22/02/2020 13:22

Couldn’t she just have used google.

In fact she should have used google about a lot of things she has saidv

DidoLamenting · 22/02/2020 13:23

Here's more information about the Sicilian. Why was she at a travel and tourism conference? Tourism is not in her shadow ministerial purview.

DidoLamenting · 22/02/2020 13:34

I googled "Dawn Butler freebies" and got the results I've linked to. In an attempt to be fair I googled "Keir Starmer freebies" "Rebecca Long-Bailey freebies" and "Lisa Nandy Freebies" and got no results. I suppose this might be journalists' bias or possibly none of them go on "fact finding" trips.
