Agrees that babies are born with a sex.

But says in response to Blair's comments about focussing on the trans issue that it keeps being brought up by the media and they [labour party] don't really want to talk about it because each time it's spoke about a trans person gets hurt.

Wtf? In what world can a party have a policy that they don't want to talk about?

OP posts:
BovaryX · 22/02/2020 09:00

I voted Tory at the last election because of this nonsense and plan to carry on doing so whilst Labour has this damaging attitude. I am a centrist and Labour have lost my vote

If Labour don't grasp your excellent point, they will remain out of power for the next decade.

TedsFederationRep · 22/02/2020 09:04

"Every time we talk about it, another trans person gets attacked."

Well, based on that reasoning, we should never ever mention misogyny, rape or violence towards women. In fact, we should never talk about anything at all.

I'm quite happy for Dawn to keep digging herself deeper into that hole. Eventually it will be so wide and so deep, she might just bring the whole nonsense down with her.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 22/02/2020 09:04

”Every time we talk about it, another trans person gets attacked."

Right then. Let’s have the evidence for that. Who is ‘we’? How does Dawn define a trans person, seeing as the Stonewall definition is all-encompassing enough to include everyone? What constitutes an attack? Who’s keeping count? And has Dawn ever bothered to express concern about the results of the Femicide Census? femicidescensus.org/

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 22/02/2020 09:05

Definitely don't talk about Dawn's gay giraffes, you might turn them straight.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/02/2020 09:08

If she gets flustered talking about penises, she cannot have an effective debate around any of the tran / women issues as it's mostly / all about penises.

NewNameEveryWeek · 22/02/2020 09:09

I assumed from the OP's post that she meant trans people get hurt feelings when we talked about this.

But no, she said "attacked."

WTAF. It does feel like Tinkerbell territory.

Lordfrontpaw · 22/02/2020 09:11

I think we know that they can’t tell the difference between hysteria and actual-literal-stone-cold-dead-for-ever-murder.

Halfeatentoast · 22/02/2020 09:16

So it's gone from "you shouldn't talk about this" - shutting down people who want to talk about it, to "I don't want to talk about it", and so shutting down discussion from all angles. Excellent stance there Labour. Well done. I can't imagine why you keep losing elections.

Floisme · 22/02/2020 09:17

Every time we talk about it, another trans person gets attacked.
I wish the person interviewing Butler had said, 'But that's terrible, who is attacking them - not feminists surely?

Lordfrontpaw · 22/02/2020 09:20

It seems that every time a woman opens her mouth she gets death threats of a Maria punch.

Dawn - please just stop taking luv...

borntobequiet · 22/02/2020 09:33

I think I quite like the Tinkerbell effect. On another thread, I learn that Harry Potter World is for adults. What exciting times we live in.

R0wantrees · 22/02/2020 09:46

She said she got flustered by Richard Madely talking about penises! Hilarious

Dawn Butler MP on why politicians must be able to talk about sex & prostitution.
(also that "sex work is the oldest profession in the world, accountancy came next in order to count the money of the sex workers" offensive nonsense)

Ironically I've just watched the C4 first dates clip with a TW who describes themselves as a gold star lesbian. To their female date. After 34 years of marriage and children.

They apparently have a tinker bell tattoo being naughty.

Lordfrontpaw · 22/02/2020 10:09

How does one get one’s gold star? Is it a badge? What benefits for you get from having one (is it like a Blue Peter badge?). Or do you only get one after you’ve married someone and had kids then decided to be gay (note she didn’t say Bi - or do a ‘Philip’) as the kids say...)

R0wantrees · 22/02/2020 10:21

Magdalen Berns
'Answering: Should We Say "Gold Star" Or "Platinum" Gay?'

BovaryX · 22/02/2020 10:39

Rational people do not agree with you

I love Magdalen Berns' withering comments about the mendacious manipulation of language. She is such a lucid, intelligent voice.

Lordfrontpaw · 22/02/2020 11:03

Well today’s gem - if twitter is to be believed - is that accountants were invented to count prostitute’s money.

Ok Dawn, it’s beyond a joke now

DidoLamenting · 22/02/2020 11:06

That "oldest profession" inanity makes me want to scream and slap anyone who trots it out.

You said every time trans issues are raised a trans person is assaulted Fact 1,650 Transphobic hate crimes were reported in 2019. In the same period 510,000 women suffered sexual assault and 1.4 million women suffered domestic abuse (Home Office figures). On this you are silent

Datun · 22/02/2020 11:20

”Every time we talk about it, another trans person gets attacked.

Attacked by whom? Certainly not feminists, and very unlikely to be women at all.

Is she saying that if women talk about their rights and boundaries some bloke goes out and beats up a transwoman?

Because it will be the first time in history that men have taken the slightest bit of notice of anything feminists are saying.

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2020 11:22

Literal violence [eyeroll]

Floisme · 22/02/2020 11:22

It's classic 'Look what they made me do.'

Datun · 22/02/2020 11:22

The idea that speaking about reality means that those who want to avoid it will be attacked by someone is plainly nonsense.

Given that women are far more likely to be killed than a transwomen, the idea that a transwoman is actually a woman, would appear, on the surface, to increase their risk, not decrease it.

PermanentTemporary · 22/02/2020 11:31

I can believe that someone has said to DB 'every time you talk about this, Twitter blows up' which is not quite the same thing.

It's difficult. The media works these days by hammering one issue into the ground and attempts to change the subject are not accepted.

It does suggest you should be bloody careful what you say about anything, if you're in politics - one dumb unthinking piece of stupidity not well thought through, and people wont let it go. Hard to be sympathetic when the stupidity is so huge and there is little attempt to correct it credibly.

Chiochan · 22/02/2020 11:35

Spoke to LP official today and her opinion is that higher up officials, MPs and leadership hopefulls niether know or care about this actual issue.
They are though surrounded by young staffers, often male, who have been indoctornated at certain unis (Oxford VERY much comes to mind) with gender idology.
That and the fact that the only constuents who are contacting them about this issue are TRAs has led them to genuinly think the public are gungho for this shit.
She said the atmosphire is 'Orwellien'
Gave a couple of examples of things that had happened to her that I cant repete as it is to identifying but would shock people
She said middle ranking and even higher up officials are too scared to speakout.
