He has responded to my email asking him to ensure the definition of women is born female at birth.

His question: How in a women's communal toilet can you reasonably ascertain whether another person is a woman or not?

Please give me your best answers now before I reply.

Especially safe guarding points!!

Will mention the way men walk, talk, look ... that entirely possible i have not spotted a post op trans before. but i would spot a bearded man or someone who made me as a woman feel unsafe. And the new self -ID would mean I would have to ignore my instincts and happily allow any man who says he is a woman to access my communal changing area / that of my 9 year old daughter ..

I realise I'm late to this, but a while ago a poster on here posed the following questions - the answers to which are fundamental to rebutting the question of whether pre-op MTF transgender people should be allowed in women's spaces.

Those questions are:

What is safeguarding for in the first place? and;

If we accept that safeguarding is in place to mitigate the risk posed by predatory men, at what point during the 'transition' from male to female does that risk reduce?

mindtheclegs · 24/02/2020 15:51

I think all the right questions were asked - I certainly focused on the definition of 'female' being critical, transwomen should not be using female spaces unless every single person using that space gives explicit consent (impossible in public spaces), 3rd spaces need to be sought or Male spaces become gender neutral. I said however it was a Male problem to resolve, women are not a human shield to protect transwoman against their male counterparts - men.

Any update on how this went?

SoldiersinPetticoats · 24/02/2020 16:25

They're still discussing Early Release Bill....

MrsSnippyPants · 24/02/2020 16:52

I'm watching Parliament TV live too; I'll post when it starts.

I am certainly being educated on prison reform! Grin

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 19:52

Now on!

mindtheclegs · 24/02/2020 19:52

There is noone there - how can this be a debate?

MrsSnippyPants · 24/02/2020 19:52

At last!

mindtheclegs · 24/02/2020 19:54

Wow - "a woman doesn't want to wash her bloody underwear in front of men"

SoldiersinPetticoats · 24/02/2020 19:58

Lord Lucas, the voice of nuance. Shame there's no-one there to listen.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 24/02/2020 20:01

unfortunately the further up the chain you get the less people actually care.
Case in point, the turn out.

mindtheclegs · 24/02/2020 20:01

Haven't been writing things down - but I like that he corrected himself from gender to sex

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:06

Sal Brinton thought that the poet last week was amazing.

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:08

Sal Brinton thinks that this matter is overstated.

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:10

Lord Blencathra is talking about the rapists being in female jails. Another one on point.

MrsSnippyPants · 24/02/2020 20:10

Baroness Brinton hitting every spot on the whataboutery bingo, including that favourite; female paedophiles.

What
The
Fuck

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:11

Such a pity that there is no one there. But, we are listening!!

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:14

Baroness Greengross is mentioning about lack of public toilets in total in the UK as well! 67% reduction in public toilets in the UK in the last decade. 1:5 people (both sexes) don't feel they can go out as often as they like due to lack of public toilets.

MrsSnippyPants · 24/02/2020 20:14

Go Lord Blencathra!!

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:17

Baroness Nicholson is discussing the confusion about the definition of woman!

MrsSnippyPants · 24/02/2020 20:17

This is SUCH a good debate. We need more of this.

pombear · 24/02/2020 20:20

Another one watching here! Thanks Lord Lucas (and thanks refuse for engaging with him) Learnt something from Baroness Greengross about her APPG work - what a hidden but important subject (and the 'bins for boy's' work - of course, men have incontinence issues too, but no sanitary provision).

Here goes Baroness Nicholson! She knows her stuff, thanks in part to lots of women meeting with her.

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:21

She points out that under the equality act, it was not intended to be for self identification. And that there needs to be at least cross-sex hormones taken.
