Seen in Newcastle today.

You can even get a 'cute' biscuit to dunk in your vat of coffee.

The guardian is dissing Starbucks? Friend to the mythical sea folk?

mcduffy · 04/03/2020 12:58

Just boycotted Starbucks at Northampton station with my GC workmate. They had the mermaid cookies but no mention of the charity. I'm pretty hungry and the only other option was a WH Smith meal deal so I'll forgo lunch.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 13:00

You are better off without them. Did you ask about the cookies?

Let them know you aren't happy. Go in acting as if you want a coffee and a mermaid biscuit, then say something like "oh I heard this biscuit is for charity?" then let you know what you think of them when they tell you they support Mermaids.

Oh how I wish now I wasn't banned from Twitter, I would love to say #fuckyourfrappuccino.

I shall content myself with snickering.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 04/03/2020 13:47

FFS stickering what even is snickering?!

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 13:48

Banned? What did you do (and I do hope it was glorious!)

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 04/03/2020 14:36

Oh lord I would love to say I went out in a blaze of glory, but I simply committed the cardinal sin of telling the truth which didn't seem to go down too well with some people who thought I was extremely hateful and literally should be burnt at the stake.

Twitter was fucking me off anyway tbh as I find it really hard to sit on my hands generally so it wasn't good for my blood pressure. Or eyeballs. I'm sticking to peak transing people I know well, anyone I have any conversation with in RL and stickering/leafleting.

mcduffy · 04/03/2020 14:37

I didn't Blush I got in the queue, legs a bit shaky with angry rage and then had to duck out when the wait was too long and I was going to miss my train!
I took pleasure in also boycotting M&S at Milton Keynes station and getting a more ethically sound (albeit calorific) lunch at Greggs. My workmate made an inadvertent pun about trans fats and we discussed Suzanne Moore's article in the guardian. Top fella. Hopefully an FWR-compliant lunch, all-in-all Grin despite my not telling Starbucks why they forfeited £15 of expensed lunches!

Sagradafamiliar · 04/03/2020 15:14

I've saved so much money boycotting them. The only challenge was explaining to DD why, who is at the age where giving money to charity = good and thought I was being unkind.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 16:17

DS used to go with his classmates after school for got chocolate and more sugar. They don’t now and go to an independent coffee shop which they say is actually nicer anyway (and the school kids get a discount from the owner!).

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 16:33

Hmmmm just walked past one with an electronic ad panel in the window. Guess what fishy treat was being advertised. I will need to write to/tweet the manager and HQ to complain in the manner of the Sefton flag whinged. Sticker woman hadn’t been in evidence.
