I spotted this in a Starbucks and went to tell the barista I would not be buying anything else there due to Mermaids' misogyny.

She was keen to tell me you had to buy a specific biscuit to donate money to Mermaids, and just buying say a coffee wouldn't result in an unintentional donation.

I told her I wouldn't be going in again while the promotion was running and to pass on my complaint to head office.

Something in her manner when I complained made me suspect I wasn't the first complaint she'd had on the subject. Not her fault, of course.

When I attended university in the town I now live, there used to be a specialist Feminist bookstore. Admittedly it closed down and became something else for a while, but now - ironically - it's been transformed into a Starbucks
