Seen in Newcastle today.

You can even get a 'cute' biscuit to dunk in your vat of coffee.

Just another reason not to go to Starbucks

overnightangel · 18/02/2020 13:02

What’s next, “Trans Mermaids Are Mermaids”? 🥴

BovaryX · 18/02/2020 13:06

What these multinationals are doing is to do very loud ostentatious appeals to show they are onboard with the zeitgeist

You can really hear the anger in Douglas Murray's voice, as another poster has said. He is an eloquent, analytical speaker.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/02/2020 15:18

We live in a society where lingerie shops sell ‘sexy schoolgirl’ gear. If they made money from selling ‘sexy dog poo’ gear they would. That’s what they do - in it for the £££ (and the occasional ‘please don’t hurt me, I’ll be good and say what you want me to’)

Lordfrontpaw · 21/02/2020 08:42

If you want a giggle look on twitter for an ‘cookie ad’ created by Tatsuya Ishida - and the howls of ‘what sick mind would do this to a charity for children - FOR CHILDREN??!!!’

I won’t post it here because it’s probably ban-worthy. I’d look fast through because twitter isn’t exactly neutral in the debate is it?

MightyMike · 21/02/2020 12:38

Didn't realise until today that Mermaids are being sponsored/promoted by Starbucks, when I visited for a treat coffee.

This is sooooo not like me, but I said/whispered to the barrista that as much as I support Trans people to live the life they want, the Mermaids org is a very suspect charity - just saying. My heart was in my mouth as I hate making any sort of scene.

He just shrugged his shoulders said it wasn't up to him which charity Starbucks chooses. Which is true and I know this. But hopefully he might mention to his manager and if enough people quietly say how disturbing this "charity" is then maybe someone might take notice.

Realistically I'm sure he thought I was stark raving mad for even bringing up my concern.

Also the lack of info on what Mermaids do was very sparse in their promotion. On the surface it looked like a charity supporting love and kindness to all children.

Lordfrontpaw · 21/02/2020 12:43

I am frequently amazed at the lack of thinking by people who companies who would normally use their brains and look at the activities and press relating to a charity. There is enough out there - quite a lot is published by the charity itself. And yet everyone seems too scared to stand up to the schoolyard bully. For now anyway.

Remember when Kids Company was untouchable? You can’t find anyone now who says ‘I supported them’.

Packingsoapandwater · 21/02/2020 14:01

Another digression... my uncle in law (from a Mediterranean country) says mermaids are a mythological version of an ancient pirate/scavenger phenomenon whereby naked women on shore would try to entice passing boats to land and then hidden menfolk would ambush the sailors, kill them and take the spoils of the ship.

Sounds realistic to me.

The photo (the second one) on this "Mermaids Tales" story. The more you look at it, the worse it gets:

Wonder if Starbucks will end up regretting this?

Send them the Times article on trans kids. Let them see who they are supporting.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 12:16

This is City Of The Woke Seattle Starbucks we are talking about.

TheChampagneGalop · 24/02/2020 12:27

What the hell is going on in that picture?!

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 12:31

Freaky picture. Knowing look from the adult - it's about the adult not the child - why is the child part of their accessories?

The look Rreminds me of those 70s paintings of the children with huge dark eyes.

OneEpisode · 24/02/2020 12:39

DD went though a pink phase. She’d learnt that she was a girl and other children told her that her colour should therefore be pink. By Jennie’s aged 11 she had very much grown out of that. And the huge pastel teddy!!!

LouHotel · 24/02/2020 14:26

The second picture is really upsetting - remove the transgender aspect, children are not sexualised dolls.

I have 3 daughters and I wouldn’t let any of them anywhere near that cos play. It’s not freedom of expression it’s a wet dream fantasy.

Strongmummy · 24/02/2020 14:28

So you’re anti a help line for people struggling to come to teens with feeling different and possibly having mental health issues because of it? Odd

OldCrone · 24/02/2020 14:31

Strongmummy it's not really helping them to tell them that they might have been born in the wrong body but they can take powerful drugs and have bits of their bodies chopped off to make them better.

LouHotel · 24/02/2020 14:38

@Strongmummy they don’t advocate for coming to terms with gender dysphoria; they advocate for invasive medical procedures, untested puberty blockers, sterilisation and life long medical problems.

They don’t even hide it, it’s there open agenda.

otterturk · 24/02/2020 14:39

I saw this and turned around and left. Disgusting.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 15:32

I wonder how many kids they ever tell to wait and see how they feel when they get older - or do they always tell them that they are 100% right and can change gender now and sex later?

They don’t support - they lobby. They go into schools and tell children all sorts of (old fashioned) stereotypical nonsense. They encourage kids to question ‘If I like pink am I a girl then?’ and normalise the medicalisation pathway. They tell
Kids they can change sex - they make it, well ‘sexy’ for want of a better word (also easy and reversible). They endorse a struck off doctor (struck off for writing prescriptions like they were sweeties).

They get ££££ and it’s a business. No transition = no business.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 19:02

That’s very organised - it’s even in corporate colours.

BovaryX · 24/02/2020 19:08

Douglas Murray spoke about boycotting Starbucks over this. I think if companies leap aboard a woke bandwagon, then the most effective way to register displeasure is to stop consuming their products. Can't say I was a fan before this, but I am going from rare to zero. Doubt I will be the only one.

WrathofFaeKlopp · 24/02/2020 19:13

So you’re anti a help line for people struggling to come to teens with feeling different and possibly having mental health issues because of it? Odd

No
It's not odd.
The World Health Organisation don't even recognise gender dysphoria as a mental health issue.

Please don't conflate genderists with people who have genuine mental health problems.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 19:14

Besides - mermaids doesn’t consider it a mental health issue - more of a physical issue that can be ‘fixed’ with medication and surgery.
