for a comedy writer who is used to firing off the cuff & hitting the funny mark, this must be a source of extreme frustration.
Writing brilliantly and speaking brilliantly are very often mutually exclusive. Writers are often introverts; speakers are often extroverts. Posie Parker speaks brilliantly and is a great interviewee, but she can't write to save her soul (sorry Posie!). When she was on FB, her posts were often convoluted and hard to decipher as well as grammatically wrong.
I'm a writer but I can't speak and in fact I hate speaking. Many of the writers I know are nervous wrecks when it comes to public speaking.
Could it have been set up to counteract the fantastic, clear, concise articles that he wrote in the Sunday Times and, was it The Mail, yesterday?
Yes; he writes clearly and concisely, but apparently he's not good at being the subject of a hostile interview.
I did not watch it, btw; I don't have TV and I generally don't like watching or listening to interviews. I prefer to read them.
