Menstruators and people who have periods

Well, this has enraged me, and I am wondering if I am being unreasonable?

Audible has a sale on, and I was looking to see if there was anything worth buying, and the book “period power” was listed.
The blurb has left me enraged, and I wouldn’t now buy it even if I really was interested. (Aware I am cutting off my nose). Is it just me???

Sacrificed

littlbrowndog · 10/02/2020 18:55

The sacred caste I think lang called it

BatShite · 10/02/2020 19:25

Why is it only ever women, who get this shit. Theres only a massive controversy about what the word woman means. Much pretending noone knows what a woman is. The word man gets nowhere near the same treatment? Always always women, and anything to do with women, being 'problematic' for whatever fucking reason.

BatShite · 10/02/2020 19:26

Same as I wouldn't mind calling a trans man who had a child a pregnant person or a chest feeder. It doesn't stop women being pregnant women and breast feeders.

Wouldn't mind at all if it was just using 'inclusive' language when talking to/about transmen. If transmen would rather what they do is called chest feeding, thats fine. Its when its expected to go for every other woman because inclusive...that it becomes a problem. And yes, this is happening all over, its not a hypothetical..

SoldiersinPetticoats · 10/02/2020 19:28

We are just ignored. Our feelings, our words, all ignored. Just look how many complaints we have made to M&S and nothing has happened. How many times has we seem massive corporations change their words and images from one TRA tweet? Loads.

Binterested · 10/02/2020 19:31

And good luck with telling, for instance, black people, that you are changing the words that they use to name themselves. I mean, really. Good luck.

Or gay people. I don’t think the word gay includes kind of gay people who I think it should include. So I’m renaming them.

Oh and Welsh people. Should really be West Of England people. More inclusive of those who don’t actually identify as Welsh but understand that their location is to the West of England.

This is all going to go swimmingly.

FrogsFrogs · 10/02/2020 19:42

Batshite agree

Justhadathought · 10/02/2020 21:24

@Justhadathought I don't believe anything of the sort

But you said that you "believe that trans men exist.......?" If you believe that people can change sex then it surely follows that you believe or accept all of the rest......That's how it goes with an ideology.....You can't pick and choose.

And no, I'm not " being an arse" I'm simply confirming what you have said yourself - along with its inevitable and logical conclusions. I've also explained that this is where the problems and issues begin.

......Because you seen unable to comprehend that people might believe and see things differently to you - hence your dismissal of people's concerns as being somehow false, hyperbolic, misplaced, or over the top; or somehow distracting from 'real' issues.

Binterested · 10/02/2020 21:30

So people can’t change sex and transboys are actually women (because people can’t change sex) but we can’t possibly be ‘an arse’ and say this in words because the world would actually implode.

To be fair this is also the MNHQ position but it makes no sense from them either.

MadamePewter · 10/02/2020 21:37

My new theory is that all this would stop if we could find a way to ensure that anyone declaring themself to be a woman could then immediately have full on, flooding, cramping, hideous periods. Menstruate away

SapphosRock · 10/02/2020 21:42

Justhadathought

I believe Muslims exist and I respect their religious beliefs. Doesn't make me a Muslim myself or means I believe in the religion.

I don't see a problem in being respectful to people who are different.

Binterested · 10/02/2020 21:51

Your equivalent is to have us all named Non Muslims so that Muslims don’t get offended by my view that their religion is a belief system, not a fact.

Binterested · 10/02/2020 21:56

I can see that some people think they are not the sex they actually are. It’s far from respectful to have me collude in that belief. Particularly when that belief is steeped in a deep misogyny of the sort that encourages the rejection by young girls of their sexed bodies.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/02/2020 21:56

I don't see a problem in being respectful to people who are different.

Following a wrong and misguided ideology, IMO. Not just "different". And causing problems for women and girls.

2BthatUnnoticed · 10/02/2020 22:01

I’ve no problem respecting people who are different. Someone wants to be called a “menstruator?” Fine by me.

In return, please respect me and anyone else who rejects “menstruator” for themselves. We are women and girls. Thanks.

FrogsFrogs · 10/02/2020 22:12

Is there a male equivalent?

TheBewildernessisWeetabix · 10/02/2020 22:17

What do you suppose men will decide to call women who do not have a uterus or no longer menstruate? Hags?

littlbrowndog · 10/02/2020 22:20

Well we have to wait and see what the men decide to call us bewilderness cos that’s how it works.

FrogsFrogs · 10/02/2020 22:20

How is the reproductive biology common to all (afaik) mammals, and most plants reptiles insects

And In humans the axis of oppression for half the population for as long as we can remember, globally

Analogous with religious beliefs?

Is it like how some USA schools fought to teach creationism alongside the theory of evolution?

Is that the angle about respecting beliefs?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/02/2020 22:23

What do you suppose men will decide to call women who do not have a uterus or no longer menstruate? Hags?

"Women's" March London still called them menstruators. "There are x number of menstruators in Parliament". Proving that it's bullshit, thoughtless woke washing.

BatShite · 10/02/2020 22:23

I've just been tipped over the edge by this

Again, its only ever woman stuff. No hand wringing about terms for men, or asking what a man is, or mass claiming that being a man is a complicated thing not based on biology Hmm

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 10/02/2020 22:24

Ive no problem getting rid of feminine hygiene from that list

Its the hygiene bit that pisses me off to be fair...not the feminine bit

Lexilooo · 10/02/2020 22:41

They can fuck off. Are you less of a woman if you don't have periods due to your method of contraception? What if your periods have stopped due to health issues? Does that mean you don't require the same information/healthcare/support.
