Fabulous article:

Speaking out against transgender extremists has made me the most hated man on the internet, writes Father Ted creator GRAHAM LINEHAN

I don't think it's fair to require everyone to be acquainted with everything anyone has ever done in order to decide if they agree with the words that person has written on a particular subject. You'd lose your mind if you had to. Let's just assume that if people are applauding the article it's because they agree with it (and recognise the cost of writing it) rather than take it as an endorsement of everything they've ever said and done.

Fair enough to point out something you disagree with but mentioning eg "that horrible article" means nothing to me except make me frustrated that you think I'm supposed to know what you're talking about in order to have a view on the DM piece. I'd be happy with a separate thread if there's genuine things to discuss.

Search glinner + porn on twitter. He hasn't deleted his years of porn activism.

I don't mind if porn lovers campaign against transgenderism but the fact he doesn't, it is very clear that he supports AGPs over women.

ThatSwearyGodmother · 09/02/2020 10:58

I’ve not posted for a while but thought I’d pop back up for this. Do you remember ManFriday being doxxed? It was really shit for a number of women on here. And an absolute shitfest to deal with.

I had cross words with Glinner on another subject and he blocked me, calling me a TRA troll with another man on twitter. Fair enough. We don’t all have to get on.

As a result of this, however, he decided to spread stories that I lied about the doxxing of ManFriday. There are threads showing it unfolding in real time if you advance search. Because we disagreed on one matter (and I’ll concede that after he dismissed me a couple of times I was unnecessarily rude) he decided to smear me, and support a woman who made a lot of other’s lives difficult.

Yet he bangs on about what he has lost. He opened old wounds and caused me a lot of drama and massively affected my very fragile mental health. Because he can’t accept women disagreeing with him. Or at least can’t accept this woman disagreeing with him.

I am grateful to anyone who speaks out. But I cannot support this gaslighting and woe-is-me shite from him when he still behaves the same way towards women who have also lost lots in fighting this ideology. And didn’t have anything like the cushion he has in the first place.

He also participates in the 'real transphobe' narrative that harms us all. Apparently Kathleen Stock also did this again at MMN last night.

AutumnRose1 · 09/02/2020 11:27

what is the "real transphobe" narrative please?

andyoldlabour · 09/02/2020 11:40

Thank you Glinner, for explaining to a great many people what is happening at present. It was clear and intelligent and it will help to open the eyes of a great number of people. When they scratch the surface a bit more, they will be horrified at the abuse which women have suffered at the hands of this movement. They willo become aware of the safeguarding issues which will negatively impact girls and women.

VeniceAllan · 09/02/2020 11:40

From Kathleen Stock last night.

This is from a speech which Glinner ave at St Peter's College Oxford last year. Given how times have rapidly moved on, I wonder if they would let him do the same thing now.

donquixotedelamancha · 09/02/2020 11:58

He also made fun of Chinese people in that one episode of Father Ted, don't forget that, very racist!

Yep- he gave Ted a Hitler moustache, what more evidence do you need?

Not one of the priests on Craggy Island is a woman, openly gay or a person of colour!

Cancel Glinner.

xxyzz · 09/02/2020 12:03

I am grateful to him and Venice Allen and Sweary Godmother in the same way I am to both Posie Parker and Julie Bindel. I admire them all. They've all taken a load of shit to support women's rights.

It's unfortunate they can and do disagree with each other but that's on account of people being human beings rather than party line robots and not just that but people under huge amount of pressure from outside.

The arguing and bone-picking only benefits the TRAs and misogynists. Don't give them what they want. Less People's Front of Judea stuff. We don't all have to agree on everything to agree broadly on the main issues.

I love Glinner's writing. I thought both articles today were very clear and will hopefully open up the debate to people unfamiliar with the issues.

donquixotedelamancha · 09/02/2020 12:05

What xxyzz said. I don't think it could be put better.

andyoldlabour · 09/02/2020 12:05

VeniceAllan

That tweet by Sarah Phillimore has been totally taken out of context (and lord knows what it has to do with Kathleen Stock), here is the following tweet to add context and the complete thread.

Well done for putting yourself on the line over this. It won’t be forgotten. As someone who comes from same sphere of work, l understand exactly where this has put you. It’s McCarthyism all over again.

Floisme · 09/02/2020 12:08

This isn't a cult and I don't expect all feminists to get along but nor am I interested in endless discussions about who gets on with whom.

I thank Venice Alllan and SwearyGodmother for everything they do and I also thank Glinner for what he does. It doesn't mean he's Gandhi, any more than they're Mother Theresa. (Indeed they were both pretty um... complex characters too if I recall correctly.)

Floisme · 09/02/2020 12:11

(Indeed they were both pretty um... complex characters too if I recall correctly.)
Just to be clear - I'm referring to Gandhi and Mother Theresa there.

HermioneWeasley · 09/02/2020 12:11

Thank you Graham! A very concise and well written summary of the current lunacy

ThatSwearyGodmother · 09/02/2020 12:17

Kind of agree and disagree. I think it’s great that we can all have different opinions, positions. What I can’t abide is the gaslighting and the lying by those who decide what the party line should be.

Think that there’s a middle ground on this issue? Great, rock on. I’ll disagree with you to the end of time. I’d like it if in return you wouldn’t smear me as a troll and a liar. Ta Graham.

BustedWench · 09/02/2020 12:21

Having been witness to behaviour from some, I can honestly say that women don't believe other women, and that breaks my heart.

Those people on that panel last night have little insight into how hate crime is going to impact us all, they are all about theory, which when stand alone makes little impact.

I will be forever grateful to the "mean girls", the women who held me and continue to hold me, their unwavering support and loyalty... And their integrity, something your man up there lacks

BiologyIsReal · 09/02/2020 12:21

Not Glinner but seems to fit well on this thread.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/02/08/starbucks-new-charity-associations-leave-bitter-taste/

Douglas Murray has a go at Mermaids and Starbucks linking up with them. Describes Mermaids as "one of the most sinister charitable organisations in the UK". Also backs Miss A's court action.

"So how encouraging is it that a 13-year-old schoolgirl should try to inject some sense into a debate that nearly all the adults in society have fearfully, disgracefully ducked."

VeniceAllan · 09/02/2020 12:21

@andyoldlabour Sarah was live tweeting Kathleen's speech at MMN, that's a quote from her. Someone asked me what I meant by the 'real transphobe' narrative and I thought that was a good example.

Halfeatentoast · 09/02/2020 12:22

I notice his fee went to A Woman's Place

Oooooooooooooooooooh · 09/02/2020 12:23

Thanks as ever, Graham.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/02/2020 12:23

Comments are rolling in under both articles and are overwhelmingly pro Linehan. Some of the Mail commenters are taking the line that he deserves all he gets because of the Count Dankula business. I know nothing about that, nor about any of his earlier campaigns. He's an opinionated man and I've no doubt he's got it wrong many times. But not many other openly GC people have 600,000 followers on Twitter. He's opened a lot of people's eyes to what's going on. He didn't have to. I'm grateful.

Dreamprincess · 09/02/2020 12:29

Thank you for the article Glinner. Despite being a feminist and supporting our cause all my life, I was subjected to a pile-on on Twitter for confessing I was born and continue to be middle class: apparently women such as myself have no idea of the trials and tribulations of other women.

My view is that we must bring our concerns, particularly on children, to as wide an audience as possible and Glinner publishing such a clear and strong article can only be a positive move. His views on other topics can be battles to be fought another day if necessary.
