Linehan concedes that many well-meaning people think that the debate about transgender is “like the gay issue” but says there is a fundamental difference. “The gay issue was telling people they were fine the way they were. The gender ideology . . . tells them they are in the wrong bodies and must change their bodies to fit into a sexist and homophobic society. When I first got into this conversation I would see young girls getting double mastectomies and hysterectomies and I didn’t think I’d have to talk about it long. I thought others would see this was obviously wrong, and step in. “None of that happened. I’ve been left swinging in the wind by people who I thought were my friends. I have to keep speaking out.” (Times article)
He’s a mensch. I have absolutely e respect for his rock-solid personal integrity in keeping on speaking out when he has nothing personally to gain and very much to lose. And he had dealt with cancer too for some of this time, (in the clear now, he has said elsewhere).
For a lot of people an experience like that would turn their attention and priorities inward (understandably) or at least make them want to step back and take a break from all the nasty bullshit that he gets on Twitter.
He’s very very talented at what he does professionally, so hopefully he gets some work picked up soon. I’m very grateful to him for continuing to speak out - because of who he is, his voice reaches people that others can’t reach. Turning the tide of opinion away from the toxic political mantras that children will feel better if they permanently change their bodies and that women must budge up and shut up, has always been about building up a very broad public awareness of what is going on. Glinner has made an amazing personal contribution to doing that.
