I hadn't come across this before. Another way in which women's bodies are commoditised and exploited.

Ffs.

The behaviour has been linked to gender-based violence

The behaviour has been linked to sex-based violence.

Fixed.

Endofthedays · 28/01/2020 15:16

It is gender based violence in the original meaning of gender.

There is nothing intrinsic to being female that means any woman should ever breastfeed a man.

It is entirely down to women being placed in a subordinate gender role and men dominating them.

sqirrelfriends · 28/01/2020 15:17

That's pretty disgusting. Breastfeeding is in no way a sexual act, why do these sick fucks feel the need to sexualise it.

GeraltsSilverSword · 28/01/2020 15:23

That is fucking grim.

RebelWithVerySharpClaws · 28/01/2020 15:25

The babies end up on formula because there is not enough breastmilk for them and they can get infections from the men's saliva. Women are treated for bitten and infected nipples. It is a common but silent problem in some communities.

isabellerossignol · 28/01/2020 15:26

Thomas admitted that resistance could result in the women being beaten. “She can’t say no because you become obsessed, it’s hard to stop. If women say no it can cause violence, it’s a big issue,” he said.

Isn't it incredible how someone can even utter this phrase and not think to themselves 'no, hang on, the cause of the violence is the man choosing to be violent'. But no, the poor men have no choice it seems.

I am angry about women's issues most of the time anyway, but every day I read something that makes me even angrier.

Pathetic man babies wanting to be treated 'like a prince' at the expense of the wellbeing of their wives and children. What is wrong with these people?

Campurp · 28/01/2020 15:29

I feel sick. I’m still breastfeeding my 6 month old and I don’t even like my husband touching my breasts, let alone anything else!

NeurotrashWarrior · 28/01/2020 15:32

End, yes I do agree, I'm being facetious. At the same time 'sex based violence' has more impact; preventing a woman from breastfeeding is classes as sexual abuse.

onalongsabbatical · 28/01/2020 15:32

I am angry about women's issues most of the time anyway, but every day I read something that makes me even angrier. Metoo.. I'm afraid I don't want to read the article because - well, I don't know. I feel so bloody impotent. Yes, I thought about that word, it is pretty much how I feel.

Clymene · 28/01/2020 15:34

"It can cause violence". As Karen Ingala Smith says, so often when we talk about men's violence against women, we just omit the men from our words.

This is what Thomas should have said:

“She can’t say no because the men become obsessed with their rights over her body and don't want to stop. If women say no, we will become violent, because we can,” he said.

LangLiveThePenis · 28/01/2020 15:34

So they're making sure they're still centred in the home and forcing their baby's needs to come after their own. At the expense of everyone else.
And I thought the men who got jealous of their babies were the worst parents.

WeetabixBananaHipsterFFS · 28/01/2020 15:36

I thought I read (somewhere, ages ago) that it’s not possible, beyond a point, to breastfeed, due to the size of the adult teeth and jaw.

(Also, tbh, I want this shit not to be true Sad)

virginpinkmartini · 28/01/2020 15:38

Fucking parasites.

NeurotrashWarrior · 28/01/2020 15:48

Weet that's generally the reason given for natural weaning occurring.

The whole thing is urgh.

weebarra · 28/01/2020 15:51

I saw this and just felt sick. And angry on behalf of those women and their babies.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 28/01/2020 15:52

I thought I read (somewhere, ages ago) that it’s not possible, beyond a point, to breastfeed, due to the size of the adult teeth and jaw.

That's probably what's causing some of the breast and nipple injuries in the women.

That article said they sometimes fed for an hour, before the child - those poor, poor women. I remember DS feeding almost continuously at first and that was hard enough, but a grown man, for an hour.

MustangsDraggedMeAway · 28/01/2020 15:53

It sounds like that one parasite drank all of his baby's colostrum before his baby could. They think it cures AIDS as well. There was another practice they thought could cure AIDS - raping virgins, even tiny babies.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 28/01/2020 16:11

I think I've just reached peak male entitlement and I feel a bit sick. Are there no depths they won't plumb?

CousinKrispy · 28/01/2020 16:15

Feeling like princes. FFS.

Thesuzle · 28/01/2020 16:15

Good god. I wish i hand happened on this thread, coming after Woman’s Hour today re family courts and the terrible treatment of a woman recently..

Michelleoftheresistance · 28/01/2020 16:15

If women say no it can cause violence

Bloody hell what an example of inability to take responsibility for own behaviour!

"Women, if you say no to me then you've caused violence to happen." with the subtext of, "and it'll be all your fault for saying no, knowing that's what you could cause."

As opposed to:

"When someone says no to me, and I don't like it, I have a damn great violent tantrum and attack them until they give me my own way. And let me use their bodies the way I want to. Like a giant, spoiled toddler."

The breastmilk, I can't even go there.

GrumpyHoonMain · 28/01/2020 16:18

It isn’t considered acceptable at all even in East Africa. It is often grounds for family to intervene, end marriages and take back their daughters and any children - my guess is the women this article is talking about are the ones without a support system. It is utterly depraved and usually undertaken by men with HIV as a cure - often women are forced to breastfeed multiple men in a family before their children.

potter5 · 28/01/2020 16:20

This is terrible. Poor women, poor babies. Breast milk is for babies only in my opinion. Shock

DickKerrLadies · 28/01/2020 16:36

My eldest self-weaned at the age of 4 and basically forgot how to feed. Told me that there was 'no milk left' which wasn't true as I had a baby that was under 6 months who fed for a couple of years after that!

It hurts to breastfeed if the latch isn't right - I'm not surprised these women have sustained injuries.
