Great book, just finished it. I was either muttering 'oh for fucks sake' or reading it allow to anyone! Really recommend it and it a book you can leave and come back too. I also loved Inferior.

It's now half price on Kindle so much more affordable than it was... But still not under a fiver which is my limit. It'll turn up in the charity shops eventually 😆

BeyondReasonablyDoubtsLots · 22/01/2020 21:00

I have it here, but haven't read it yet. It's first on my non-fiction reading list though

BeyondReasonablyDoubtsLots · 22/01/2020 21:01

(i got it on eBay for about £6)

Fantastic book, will also look into the other recommendations on this thread as am enjoying feminist books at the moment.

I also just finished reading ‘give birth like a feminist’ by milli hill- I know the title may be a little off-putting but it was honestly a really eye-opening look at the history of patriarchy and misogyny in childbirth and how it still absolutely informs the way women are cared for and treated during pregnancy and childbirth.

LangClegSupportersClub · 22/01/2020 21:34

Welshmamma great idea re taking a similar data focussed look at racism I hope she does that.

I've read the whole book, keep muttering ffs and reading bits out to the family. Bought it for two teenage female relatives for Christmas and I hope it makes them angry Grin

weebarra · 22/01/2020 21:37

I saw her at Edinburgh book festival last year - a very female dominated audience. She was great!

Thesuzle · 22/01/2020 21:46

Blurting, Inferior ? By Perez as well ?

Mayomaynot · 22/01/2020 21:50

I got it for Christmas but haven't started reading it yet. Just started reading The Vagina Bible, by Jen Gunter. It's great so far.

Verily1 · 22/01/2020 21:53

It’s on my to read list

WyeWoman · 22/01/2020 22:03

She's doing a book tour and coming near me so I've just booked tickets!

I listened to this Cracked podcast last year and did mean to read the book since - this thread has reminded me

NotTerfNorCis · 22/01/2020 22:12

Added it to the list. :)

MrsFogi · 22/01/2020 22:47

Oh yes - a wonderful book and if anyone can afford it please do spread the love [https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3714778-Invisible-Women-help-me-with-an-inscription thread I started here about donating them to schools/friends].

MrsFogi · 22/01/2020 22:48

click link!!

lionheart · 22/01/2020 23:15

Yep. Smile

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 22/01/2020 23:20

It's fantastic: dd got it me for Christmas (with some hints!). I find I want to dig into many of the examples in more detail: there's just so much rich data!

Like others I am reading in chunks to manage my fury and then lecturing the family over supper. DS is struggling a little as he really doesn't want to believe it's as bad as it sounds, and keeps trying to come up with reasons why the data might be flawed...

Lordfrontpaw · 23/01/2020 07:45

I’ve just ordered it. Thanks!

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 23/01/2020 07:55

I was waiting for it to come out in paperback

Its definitely on my list though!

Lordfrontpaw · 23/01/2020 08:33

I got it second hand on eBay (signed!)

Sicario · 23/01/2020 10:01

It's a brilliant book. I have read it twice and bought multiple copies for other people.

If you cannot afford to buy a copy - please know that you can order ANY BOOK from your local library and they have to get it for you. The maximum charge for this service is one pound.

missproportionate · 23/01/2020 10:08

It’s brilliant. Gave my copy away but now I want to read again. Gave one to the headteacher and (male) form teacher of my kids school.

I think everyone needs to read it. Men especially

Arthritica · 23/01/2020 10:09

I gave it to four people for Christmas this year Grin

WomanBornNotWorn · 23/01/2020 13:23

Brilliant - the kitchens! The seatbelts! The city design! The painkillers! The ... Everything!

Mangapps · 23/01/2020 16:53

My daughter gave me a copy last year. I loved it. However she is very woke, and considers me a bigot because of my GC views. I am baffled how she can believe that TWAW (and so there is no such thing as a biological woman) but that it matters that biological women are ignored by scientists etc. I can't ask her as we can't discuss trans issues and stay on speaking terms.
