Nick Ferrari covered the JK Rowling mess this morning on his breakfast show. He has often covered trans issues as one of the few broadcasters who can see this movement for what it is.

Sharron Davies was on and was superb putting her case with clarity and in straightforward language as usual. He agreed with every word she said.
Then came the editor of Diva magazine Carrie Lyell who was embarrassingly bad and folded under any questioning from Ferrari. She claimed that transpeople are being murdered every day. And agreed that Maya should be silenced.

Sunlight is a great thing and people are listening. Thank you JK Rowling.

Is the feminism section just about trans bashing?

OhHolyJesus · 20/12/2019 09:40

Nope Strong - a lot of it is about free speech actually.

Thanks for posting OP, I love JK and Sharron and will have a listen later.

LangCleg · 20/12/2019 09:41

Is the feminism section just about trans bashing?

It's about what's good for women. You know, the cunty ones.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 20/12/2019 09:42

Funnily enough it tends to center mostly on woman's rights.

Strongmummy · 20/12/2019 09:43

Oh I’m feminist, I just don’t agree with you lot and find this section ridiculous as a result

LangCleg · 20/12/2019 09:45

Why are you posting on it then?

Scuse me while I go back to the productive threads. We're not at junior school hereabouts. We have Grown Up things to discuss.

WatchingTheMoon · 20/12/2019 09:45

strongmummy why not start your own topic instead of derailing?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 20/12/2019 09:45

Okay. Good for you.
Now we know that.
Feel better?

TiredofthisBS · 20/12/2019 09:45

Great, Strong. We'll have to agree to disagree won't we.

koshkat · 20/12/2019 09:46

Strongmummy why don't you have a listen before making judgements? This is a freedom of speech issue as much as anything else and affects all of us.
It was after either 8.30am or the 8.45 am news.

OP posts:
MoltenLasagne · 20/12/2019 09:47

So:

  • Standing up for women's rights is transphobia.
  • Stating scientific fact is transphobia.
  • Starting a thread to discuss these things is trans bashing.

But apparently rights aren't pie and women don't lose any rights by being obedient nice?

koshkat · 20/12/2019 09:48

Oh I’m feminist, I just don’t agree with you lot and find this section ridiculous as a result

You are a feminist but cannot see the issue with what has happened to Maya? Hmm

OP posts:
thatdamnwoman · 20/12/2019 09:49

Are you the same Strongmummy who was here the other day posting she never came to women's rights because we're all so horrid?

Several threads unrelated to trans rights on the front page but the Maya Forstater case threatens a massive legal precedent and so yes, at the moment most threads are related to trans and women's right to believe in biology and use the word woman to mean woman etc. Assume that as a mummy you know a bit about biology, but perhaps you're more the Egyptian type.

Aaarrgghhh · 20/12/2019 09:49

Strongmummy Are you not able to create posts in the feminism section? Why are you relying on others providing the conversation that you want?

People clearly want to talk about this stuff and that’s evidenced by the amount of threads. If you want to discuss different things that’s okay, post about it and I’m sure people will discuss it there.

This thread however, does involve talk around people who are trans, if that doesn’t interest you, you aren’t required to read or engage.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 20/12/2019 09:50

She claimed that millions of transpeople are being murdered every day

She needs to have a word with TRAs who state that 311 trans people were murdered (worldwide) last year and let them know that they are out by a billion or so.

koshkat · 20/12/2019 09:51

The feminist section is about centering women and defending our few and hard-won rights. Hope that helps.

NotBadConsidering · 20/12/2019 09:53

A woman lost her job for stating a biological fact. If that’s not a feminist issue, what is? If a woman lost her job for stating the Earth is not flat, everyone would think it was utterly bonkers. The only relevance to trans is that the bonkers people have captured institutions, and results like this happen.

Aaarrgghhh · 20/12/2019 09:53

She claimed that millions of transpeople are being murdered every day

See this kind of bullshit annoys me. It’s a blatant lie, so why do people lap it up? If millions of people who are trans are being killed every day a lot more people would need to be trans and frankly as a result population would be down and nothing like that has happened. It’s ridiculous.

koshkat · 20/12/2019 09:54

Birds to be fair to her maybe she said millions a year and I got that wrong - she definitely said millions though. Ferrari did raise an eyebrow to this but she ploughed on and doubled down.

I am not sure where these statistics come from.

OP posts:
koshkat · 20/12/2019 09:55

Aaarrgghhh - I need to listen again in case I have misrepresented what she said and if she actually said millions of transpeople are killed every year. Will check!

OP posts:
Aaarrgghhh · 20/12/2019 09:55

Ahh seen it’s millions a year but I think my point still stands, a lot more people would need to be trans and even still looking up the facts shows that there hasn’t been that many. Why do people believe it?

Aaarrgghhh · 20/12/2019 09:56

koshkat No worries, I think I posted my comment before seeing your updated one.

koshkat · 20/12/2019 09:58

Nothing gets the blood going quite like being shouted down by transphobes on LBC. What a way to start the day.

Carrie Lyell's tweet re her LBC appearance this am. Even rational debate is transphobic.

OP posts:
HorseWithNoBlueHairs · 20/12/2019 09:58

Oh I’m feminist, I just don’t agree with you lot..

And we don't agree with you.

There. What a super debate; you really made me and think about this subject with your insightful points. Not just me either, but I'm sure you've given all of the feminists here food for thought. Do you know Bespin?

Massive sarcasm smiley.
