Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

So where have you been asked about your gender identity rather than your sex?

Just got a survey from ENO about a recent visit to the London Coliseum.

I was asked what my "gender identity" was.

I ticked "other" and explained I didn't have a gender identity, as there is no such thing, but I had a biological sex, which was female.

This substituting of "gender identity" for "sex" seems to have become mainstream in just the last year or so.

Apologies if there's already a thread on this, but if not, could people lease list below other companies/organisations who have now routinely removed all reference to biological sex in favour of gender identity?

To get a sense of the scale of the problem - and possible mass email or tweet them on this.

No idea why English National Opera would care that eg one of their male patrons likes to wear eyeliner on a Wednesday. Confused

I think so many places have been coerced or tricked into this change. They've either been led to believe they could face charges under new diversity and equality guidelines or been told that sex and gender are interchangeable terms. The shocking part really is that health services are going along with it. It's like reverting back to childhood and expecting everyone to play along with their fantasy. Bonkers.

Trewser · 05/12/2019 08:05

I don't fill in anything that asks for my gender identity. If its a paper form i cross it out and write sex. If its online and i have to fill it in I choose "other" just to fuck up their statistics.

Staff survey (civil service, not a super-woke department but we have recently brought in a trans policy based around using whatever toilets people feel comfortable with, identifying as the opposite sex means being treated as the opposite sex, disciplinary action for deliberate misgendering etc etc)

Local authority form for renewing 30 hours childcare asked for gender of the child, although not the parent

Missproportionate · 05/12/2019 08:10

On the London wise schools application site. Ask for child’s gender. Does not ask child’s sex.

I am waiting patiently for the single sex schools to deal with what happens when a boy identifying as a girl or vice versa applies to the school of the sex they identify with
And also: when a girl who identifies as a boy applies to a girls school on the basis of that being their sex, regardless of how they identify. (And similar with boys). That’s going to be interesting. (I can imagine situations when that would be something a parent or child would want - not many, but it’s possible)

I think the DofE form asks for gender. I kind of get how they would need to know if there is an issue with tents or washing facilities but there was just the one set of tick boxes (so no one for sex).

midcenturylegs · 05/12/2019 08:16

Applying for a job on a taleo application site (lots of Govt and private sector use this, not outing!). Do you identify as the same sex you were assigned at birth etc.
It's everywhere..

GeoffreyAndBungle · 05/12/2019 08:18

I've just bought pet insurance online and the form asked for my cat's GENDER (male or female).

🙀

I’m a Labour Party member and since the election started getting bombed with fundraising things weekly. One begging letter had 5 options to fill in along side your donation. Gender: male, female, trans, non binary and Other. Just in case 4 wasn’t enough to choose from.

Also had a blood test and wanted to know gender and if my gender identity matched my birth identify and needed to know my sexual preference very very long list to choose from there. When you need to know risks factors why make it so complicated through 20 questions of oh this person is TW who identifies as a Lesbian so you are biological Male who has sex with females? (Fully expect another strike for saying that but how else can you say it)I mean they still have to ask the questions of sure asking many more questions makes that easier.

When I was joining a union... It didn't really surprise me though; all the unions are intolerable wokefests.

FamilyOfAliens · 05/12/2019 08:24

I’ve posted this before on here but the online passport renewal form asks for gender and then records this as sex on your actual passport.

So you tick F for gender on the form and voila - your sex is female on your passport.

Pantah630 · 05/12/2019 08:24

Filling in DH shotgun licence renewal, crossed out gender and wrote sex. Waiting to see if the PCC sends it back and asks him to fill it out himself.

maslinpan · 05/12/2019 08:27

I crossed out gender and replaced with sex on my blood donation form. This caused a bit of a stir and they had to print out a new one with gender on it. The manager asked me why and said he was on a committee involved with all this. I said it was an inaccurate way of getting data, but he asserted that they had not changed it from sex to gender. I donated as usual and kept it polite, but a strongly worded complaint is on my to do list. Might just include a dictionary definition of both terms.

jay55 · 05/12/2019 08:29

The practice census had both sex and gender identity questions.

NHS Blood donation service

GoulashSoup · 05/12/2019 08:39

At the breast clinic. Long term problem as a consequence of breast feeding, totally because of my sex. (I know men can get breast cancer but surely then their sex is important as there would be a different hormonal background). I crossed it out and put sex.

JellyfishAndShells · 05/12/2019 08:43

I had one survey from the BFI ( British Film Institute) that asked me which gender I most closely I identified with today. Which I assume is to cover the floating voters : ‘it’s Thursday - frock and heels day ? ‘

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/12/2019 08:45

Filling out a vet's form recently it asked the gender of my cat Hmm

TeenPlusTwenties · 05/12/2019 08:49

DD was asked on a job application form for gender identity and whether it matched 'that assigned at birth'. She was totally confused. I told her they should ask for sex as that is what they should be monitoring with respect to Equalities Act, but as she wanted the job we let it pass.

Xiaoxiong · 05/12/2019 08:59

The consent forms for the flu jab for the DCs. I crossed out "gender" and wrote SEX.

I'm sure the people who process the forms don't care but I'm hoping it catches someone's eye as they go through the paperwork.

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 05/12/2019 09:06

Cat gender! 🤣

FearOfTheDuck · 05/12/2019 09:26

Most recently on a diversity questionnaire for my university. It was about whether students feel that the university is doing enough to address the needs of people with different protected characteristics.

I was first asked if I 'identified as' male, female or other, and then the list of characteristics that could be commented on included 'gender' and 'sexual orientation/gender identity' - the latter just like that, as a single category. I'm not sure even within trans ideology how gender and gender identity are supposed to differ.

There was a write-in box, so of course I put in 'sex', and explained to them with reference to the Equality Act how they can't possibly be taking steps to meet the needs of those disadvantaged by their sex (i.e. women) if the diversity team don't even recognise it as a category for analysis! I knew that the people reading it would be woke types, so I suggested that they collect data for both 'sex' and 'gender identity', with a 'none' option for those of us who don't have said identity. And wrote a little bit about how I couldn't answer the 'what do you identify as?' question because of its ontological assumptions.

ememem84 · 05/12/2019 09:38

At my gps recently. Had to fill in an updated patient info form.

I said I identified as other then wrote in the little box that my biological sex was female but I identified as a flamingo.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 05/12/2019 09:39

Quite a few times. When I can, I change to 'sex' or if forced to, put in 'other' and write 'my sex is female'.

Next time maybe I'll put flamingo as my gender identity, I like that.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 05/12/2019 09:40

I was also asked my pronouns recently. I ignored the question.

fruitbrewhaha · 05/12/2019 09:47

I run the payroll for my company and with a recent update it changed sex to gender on the employee details form. I rang them to complain but was told that they were following the government guidelines. I pointed out that as an employer I needed to be aware of an employees sex as this is a protected characteristic, I couldn't give a stuff what gender they felt they are. He wasn't interested.
