Prisoner denied GRS - court case.

I can't see any other post but a prisoner is suing the NHS as they were refused GRS.

This prisoner was convicted for having indecent images of children and for sexual activity with a young girl. They are now suing because of the distress that has been caused to them.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/11/28/transgender-paedophile-sues-nhs-refusing-reassignment-surgery/amp/

They are in prison for child sex offences and they think it acceptable to sue for their 'distress'. It looks like the tale is being seen as an attempt to get an easier ride away from a male prison which holds little back when it comes to children and prisoners.

It seems extraordinary that this person should win the right to have their way here. I do hope they lose. Really - if for no other reason, there are more important things to spend available public money on right now. In fact why is it even going as far as court? Who is paying for that?

NonnyMouse1337 · 29/11/2019 08:49

What exactly is involved in GRS?
Dental work? Removing body hair? Breast implants?
You don't need to surgically alter your genitals to obtain a GRC, do you? I didn't think so.

Ms Richards said GRS is "major, irreversible surgery which may destroy existing parts of a patient's body, personality and sexuality".

Hang on..... Yet we are meant to allow children and vulnerable young adults to be put on a pathway towards this procedure before they are fully able to understand the gravity of this decision because......??

LangCleg · 29/11/2019 08:50

And in which prison is this paedophile incarcerated?

Because if it's a women's prison - fuck this shit. And if it's a man's prison - what experience of living as a woman? Wearing lippy?

Michelleoftheresistance · 29/11/2019 09:17

One or the other, if GRCs provide a legal fiction of access.

Either GRCs are taken very seriously, with major gatekeeping, full SRS, and committing any sexual offence means immediate refusal or cancelling of GRC without time limits applying

Or

Hand out GRCs like sweeties, anyone can have one, total respect for anyone regardless of situation and circumstance, but GRC exemptions and the EA are beefed up that this legal fiction does not mean access into protected single sex spaces for biological females.

Choose. Men can't have cake, eat cake, demand cake, insert cake and have it all ways.

Bronners1978 · 29/11/2019 09:30

The NHS pathway provides 8 sessions of facial hair removal, limited voice therapy, HRT and Gender Reassignment Surgery.

Anything else must be paid for privately.

A GRC has never required anyone to undergo surgery as a recognition that not all trans people are able to undergo the procedure.

Regardless access is not governed by whether a person holds a GRC, as less than 20% of all transitioned people have applied for one.

As of earlier this year, and following successful lobbying by yourselves, a dedicated wing for trans women who would pose a risk to the general female prison population was created and, last I heard, three people were being held there.

DeeZastris · 29/11/2019 09:35

Time for the NHS to refuse any surgery or hormones in all circumstances.

happydappy2 · 29/11/2019 09:41

I don’t think anyone should be compelled to refer to a convicted male sex offender as ‘she’.

LangCleg · 29/11/2019 09:53

I see you've decided to give the non sequiturs a go on a variety of threads this morning, Bronners.

Should a convicted paedophile with offences against young girls be permitted to sue the prison service for not sufficiently accommodating their sexual identity?

Yes or no?

Angryresister · 29/11/2019 09:53

Interesting that it is the Portman and Tavistock clinic that is saying no,..very unusual, and surprisingly sensible in the circumstances.. these men really don’t like being told no. I really really hope they are not in a women’s prison.

littlecabbage · 29/11/2019 10:02

Is this GRS actually “breast implants”?

That was my first thought too. Which is more likely:

  1. After using penis to abuse a child, biological male realises the prison system will indulge his autogynephilia fetish, and allow him to dress "as a woman" to excite himself sexually. He would quite like some free breast implants to facilitate this. He also sees a possible avenue for transfer to a women's prison where he can carry out further sexual abuse, and also intimidate and harass women. He has no intention of having his penis removed.

  2. Convicted sex offender realises that he was actually born in the body, and needs reassignment surgery to alleviate his genuine distress.

Hmm

MNHQ - I am pretty sure you have stated in the past that we do not need to perform ridiculous verbal gymnastics in order to not state the biological sex of a convicted sex offender, hence my (correct) use of male pronouns throughout.

Report in the DM with figures from April/May this year re no of transgender inmates in prison.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7736313/More-half-prisons-England-hold-prisoners-identify-transgender.html

I've had a look but can't see the original report on the MOJ website

titchy · 29/11/2019 10:15

WIBU in supporting the need for surgery in this individual as long as removal of the penis is the first stage in transitioning?

Bronners1978 · 29/11/2019 10:20

Given that HRT, and surgery effectively sterilises the trans woman, something you’re all very much aware of. I’m surprised your not actually pressing for all paedophiles to be put on testosterone blockers as part of their punishment.

Regardless of a person's crimes in the UK denial of treatment for a medical condition is inappropriate.

andyoldlabour · 29/11/2019 10:27

Human rights, blah, blah, blah
What a totally sick situation, just put the POS in solitary confinement and forget about him.

NonnyMouse1337 · 29/11/2019 10:27

Physical or chemical castration isn't much of a barrier to violent predators.
Women are still violently beaten up, intimated, sexually assaulted with broken bottles or bars. The lack of an erect penis hasn't stopped men from finding ways to hurt women.

The best punishment is to keep sexual predators as far away from women and children as possible. Shifting them to women's prisons undermines this as I'm sure you know.

Being trans is no longer a medical condition though. It's transphobic to say so, remember?

littlecabbage · 29/11/2019 10:28

HRT does not sterilise a transwoman, and the term Sex Reassignment Surgery is often used (in a deliberately confusing manner) to refer to things like jaw reshaping, shaving the Adam's apple, breast implants and brow reduction.

The majority of transwomen retain a fully functioning penis.

Autogynephilia (which falls under the massive Stonewall trans umbrella) is not a medical condition, and is a sexual fetish.

Hellmistress · 29/11/2019 10:36

"Given that HRT, and surgery effectively sterilises the trans woman, something you’re all very much aware of. I’m surprised your not actually pressing for all paedophiles to be put on testosterone blockers as part of their punishment."

Why would anyone want to ensure trans women are sterilised? It's totally irrelevant. Sterilisation does not equal emasculation. Testosterone blockers for paedophiles? Nope. Surgery, yes. Castrate the bloody lot of them

Grimbles · 29/11/2019 10:41

Strange there was, and still is, massive tabloid and public outrage over women who 'game the system' to get breast implants or other cosmetic surgery on the NHS. And yet...

Bronners1978 · 29/11/2019 10:49

The majority of trans people don’t transition, of those that do, HRT does leave us sterile, it’s a side effect of the blockers (not oestrogen). Surgery, is desired by the majority of those who transition, however with long waiting times, a very small number of suitably trained surgeons and, for a few medical conditions that prevent us having it, means that some of us are unable to access it.

The numbers rise in places like the US where funding becomes an issue, not all insurers cover it and for those that do, the insurance system requires you to find 20% of the overall cost. Given the relatively low incomes, this is unaffordable for many over there.

DeeZastris · 29/11/2019 10:53

I really have no idea why the NHS is offering surgery to perfectly healthy bodies. What a total waste of money.

littlecabbage · 29/11/2019 10:57

HRT does leave us sterile

This means you are unable to father children. It does not mean you are impotent. A rapist who is on HRT can still get an erection, and can still rape.

Surgery, is desired by the majority of those who transition

Yes, surgeries like breast implants and facial feminisation surgeries. When you isolate those who desire removal of their penis and testes, the numbers are much, much lower.

ThePurported · 29/11/2019 11:01

The prison issue really exposes the whole thing, doesn't it?
Men who have played reasonably nice can have their paraphilia catered to and get transferred to a women's prison.
And yes, naive to assume that GRS means genital surgery / 'sterilisation'. Isn't it usually about getting a pair of tits?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 29/11/2019 11:17

what are you actually saying Bronners1978?

  • that the convicted paedophile should be able to have publicly funded 'SRS'?
  • that the convicted paedophile should be in a women's prison?

you're spraying non sequiteurs around, and I'm not actually too sure what your point is?

Grimbles · 29/11/2019 11:18

Women who have had mastectomies are having restrictions placed on reconstructive surgery and cant even get matching sized boobs.

Maybe they should sue too. But they wont, will they. Because of female conditioning and lack of entitlement.
