@BernardBlacksWineIceLolly I also think saying you heard teachers get tired of the endless mugs and chocolate so you've bought a few books for the classroom!
I'd probably also gift along with what I like about me, so there's a nice theme. :) And maybe a nice children's book about race, or another positive book about loving yourself

Sorry to sound a bit dim - is it usual for people to donate books to schools and libraries?

Yes. And definitely schools. There are hardly any school librarians even left these days and resource budgets for non-essentials are basically non-existent. Schools will bite your hand off!

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 07/12/2019 12:13

I’m ordering one for my great niece and I’m so glad to hear about the libraries accepting donations so I’ll get a few for my local one plus the one in my closest city.

I love that my youngest has transformed from a child who thought she was ‘wrong’ and her body was fat, to a young woman who loves her body and all the wonderful things that her body can still do, since coming to live with me. She has SN and done health issues but she’s turned into a wee soul that lights up a room. It’s amazing what live and encouragement can do to child’s self image, compared to the abuse and negativity she endured before. Sorry, I’m off to fetch a tissue. 😢

Ohhh Schools! I pass a small primary every day. Would they be suitable for the youngest children?

Uncompromisingwoman · 07/12/2019 12:17

Absolutely right for the infants. I'm passing my extra ones on to two teacher friends in primary schools.

Great news!

So tomorrow's post is ready to go and we have SOLD OUT of this wonderful book by Rachel Rooney and Jessica Ahlberg! But never fear, we have a new shipment arriving tomorrow, so normal service should not be interrupted. Keep on placing your orders! #MyBodyisMe

Excellent news!

I often give small things to DD's classroom or to another class in the school (mainly outgrown pants TBF, but I also gave something else that they didn't know existed but were pleased to have and to find out about). So I'll be topping up their supplies of thing A and giving them the book at the same time.

Brittany2019 · 09/12/2019 13:31

Thanks to this thread, I’ve just bought the book for my three-year-old who’s recently started coming out with stuff like «boys can’t have long hair». Smile

drspouse · 09/12/2019 13:36

They do all do that though Brittany but usually they realise it's wrong after a while.

Would it be a good idea to share pix of men and women who rock things that supposedly 'belong' to the opposite sex?

Creative men in pink, eyeliner, long hair, powerful women footballers, firefighters, blacksmiths - a quick random selection - with the idea that we can reassure children with positive images that reinforce that they can do, wear, be what they enjoy without worrying they were born in the wrong body and should have been the opposite sex?

On my kitchen wall next to all the family photos I've a photo of me in a hard hat which was the front cover of an engineering mag. I look like a Doozer from Fraggle Rock but it's good for my DD (and her friends ) to see it.

Also have been giving those books away - it's so lovely. My teen really enjoyed it too - there was one phrase which really stuck out for her - about being tough versus sweet I think - and she exclaimed "that's really good!".
