Only consenting to receiving medical treatment from a female is not acceptable

One NHS trust says it’s unacceptable for women to say they only consent to medical treatment from “natal females”. I find this completely outrageous and couldn’t find a thread on it already. Bloody hell!

Yes, this thread is about women's right to refuse male practitioners for intimate exams and care even if those men have 'gender identities'.

Women have the right to same sex practitioners, not practitioners who have feminine fee fees.

XY trans people are not the same sex as women.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 25/11/2019 20:03

I'm going to be giggling about this all night.

"No! I refuse! I absolutely will not have my smear/mammogram done by someone who's pregnant!"

Indeed, that is the cry uttered by feminists all across the land.

Dangerfloof · 25/11/2019 20:05

None of you have any idea of what birth gender you’ve been treated by to date. It isn’t announced. And sometimes it isn’t obvious
Sure, I'm unable to see, hear, smell, KNOW.
If there actually is one out there that passes (doubtful) then fine, I would probably not know.
But the chances of that one person being in my orbit and a hcp and required to do my smear that I don't have done anymore. Fucking slim.

Bunnyfuller · 25/11/2019 20:05

And @Michelleoftheresistance what if the OJ was called coffee previously, but to all intents and purposes looked like coffee?

How do you Tell?

And is the HCP obliged to tell you?

The NHS is saying they recognise transgender and are under no obligation to out them.

You’re assuming you’d know.

So is this simply not accepting transgender? Not wanting a male to examine you is perfectly understandable (I remember a v junior doctor, for whom I was his first smear - it didn’t go well).

But sweeping transgender mtf into it is saying you don’t accept transgender mtf as women.

You cannot get annoyed at other females for not sharing your view of transgender hcp.

Disagreeing is not being obtuse. It’s disagreeing.

CuckooCuckooClock · 25/11/2019 20:06

I think it fairly well accepted that pregnant women are incapable of most things. Never mind mothers - after you actually give birth you’re basically dead weight in a professional setting

Bunnyfuller · 25/11/2019 20:07

@TheProdigalKittensReturn

Now you’re being silly. I was mentioning other strands of the Equality Act. Because if I hadn’t, someone would’ve jumped on that.

Don’t devalue your view by picking hairs.

Themyscira · 25/11/2019 20:08

Wouldn't trust a pregnant HCP as far as I could throw 'em.

Themyscira · 25/11/2019 20:08

And that's a fact.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 25/11/2019 20:09

I'd really prefer that my OJ not identify as coffee, actually. I'd be a bit disappointed about the lack of caffeine for a start, and even more so if I'd added milk and sugar.

stillathing · 25/11/2019 20:09

None of you have any idea of what birth gender you’ve been treated by to date. It isn’t announced. And sometimes it isn’t obvious.

What's a birth gender? Is that that thing where if babies with vulvas rip the hair grips from their head they are declared to be boys and gifted a miniature footballer outfit? Or do you mean sex; which is the same at death as it is at birth, regardless of feelings or medical intervention?

I must have a super power then cos I can spot people's sex from a distance. Its depressingly absolutely crucial as a lone female jogger! It's mainly in the hips and the gait and the way the legs join to the hips, if you're interested.

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 25/11/2019 20:09

What about hermaphroditism, where the whole genome has become intertwined?

Spokespeople for the national society which represents those born with DSDs (intersex) have asked for them not to be conflated with transgender people as they are two completely different situations. Please respect that.

GetbusywiththeFizzee · 25/11/2019 20:11

And @Michelleoftheresistance what if the OJ was called coffee previously, but to all intents and purposes looked like coffee?

This thread is turning into comedy gold thanks to two persistent, deluded posters 👏🏼😂

CuckooCuckooClock · 25/11/2019 20:12

Aside from all this - could we contact PALS with our concerns does that have to be after you’ve received treatment?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 25/11/2019 20:12

Pumpkin spice OJ - grim

Peppermint mocha OJ - even grimmer

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 25/11/2019 20:13

XY trans people are bog standard males. DSDs are irrelevant to this discussion.

And can we please not have this nonsense about not knowing peoples sex. We aren't blind, deaf, anosmic or stupid.

stillathing · 25/11/2019 20:13

Anyway as somebody said earlier, what shall we do about this?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 25/11/2019 20:13

I would happily have had the male cleaner treat me over some of the god awful dragon midwives I've had the misfortune to meet in my time. Female HCP does not always equal decent, compassionate or even competent levels of care but if you believe it does then crack on.

When I have advanced warning I'll continue to research who is the expert in the field and request to see them. If it's an emergency then I'll have to take my chances and just be grateful for them helping me.

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 25/11/2019 20:13

But sweeping transgender mtf into it is saying you don’t accept transgender mtf as women.

Transwomen are not women. They are men choosing to present in a feminine manner.

You seem confused about the Equality Act. Transgenderism in and of itself is not a protected characteristic. Being in possession of a GRC is, but the EA recognises exemptions where even having a GRC does not trump sex-based rights in certain situation one of which is providing intimate care.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 25/11/2019 20:15

Wouldn't trust a pregnant HCP as far as I could throw 'em.

Hmm. How tall are they, hypothetically speaking? Is this a new and exciting version of those wife carrying contests some Scandinavian countries have?

Michelleoftheresistance · 25/11/2019 20:15

You cannot get annoyed at other females for not sharing your view of transgender hcp.

Now we're on the same wave length. Yes Smile This. Exactly.

You're happy to accept that a transgendered person is exactly the same as the sex they identify as. That's great. That's your choice.

It's not my belief. If I ask for a same sex professional that's what I need. The same sex. I'm not willing to accept someone not of that sex because they identify as that sex. This is one of the few situations in which sex matters and there has to be a boundary if I'm to have that procedure done.

And yes, I agree totally. No sense in getting angry because different people see it differently. Respect that some women will request same sex and some women won't mind at all, and everything's fine. Different people, different needs, there's enough space for everyone.

Bunnyfuller · 25/11/2019 20:17

And more picky.

This is playground stuff, girls. Ganging up on someone who thinks or speaks differently.

Not the best advert for feminism I’ve seen

Isn’t it about equal rights, not just ‘our rights’

You’ve been given coffee instead of orange juice more than you’ll ever know.

You go in for the mammogram and the tech is already stood there? You’re undergoing this already agreed painful procedure and you’re watching how the tech’s hips join her body.

REALLY. 😂😂😂😂🙈🙈🙈🙈

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 25/11/2019 20:19

You’ve been given coffee instead of orange juice more than you’ll ever know.

Both coffee and orange juice must be rather different where you live to how they are here.

FlamingoAndJohn · 25/11/2019 20:19

You’ve been given coffee instead of orange juice more than you’ll ever know.

You can put orange juice in a coffee cup and magically claim it’s coffee.

FlamingoAndJohn · 25/11/2019 20:19

*can’t!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 25/11/2019 20:20

It's like transubstantiation! But with OJ.
