"I went to board my flight today, having had my ESTA approved online. I have not been allowed to board because my ESTA has been withdrawn and nobody in the US Embassy or at Homeland security can give me a reason why. I have to apply to the embassy."

I don't understand... If the ESTA was already issued, who said it was withdrawn? Is it someone on the airline side saying it has been withdrawn? Was the ESTA actually withdrawn from the Homeland security side? It's not clear from her tweets.

MockersthefeMANist · 19/11/2019 15:01

Reasons why an ESTA application is denied:

On a previous visit to the United States, you overstayed beyond the amount of time allowable for your visa or visa waiver.

On a previous visit to the United States, you did not have the appropriate visa to work

You previously made a request for a visa or visa waiver, and were denied entry into the United States.

The answers you provided on your ESTA application form were incorrect, once cross-checked with the US government systems.

You provided the passport details for a passport that you claimed to be lost or stolen, yet actually was still in your possession.

You have a criminal record, and regardless of your answer to question 2 on the ESTA application form, you were found to have a conviction history.

You have the name of someone who committed a crime in your name, or you are a victim of identity theft.

(But these are only the "most likely" reasons.)

Ohyesthatgc · 19/11/2019 15:07

There’s probably a bit more to this. The ESTA can be revoked at any time after the authorization approval is granted as the CBP reserves the right of admissibility for any ESTA applicant. They also check information from a large range of sources so she probably put something in that didn’t add up to what they had.

She needs all the luck now, seeing that you have to tell them that you have been refused in the past and now have to apply for a proper visa.

CaveMum · 19/11/2019 15:07

Just seen this. It’s shocking that neither Homeland Security or the US Embassy can tell her why.

OvaHere · 19/11/2019 15:08

According to her FB post she feels she has been targeted by LGBT activists who have been threatening to make this happen for a while.

Not enough details at the moment though to ascertain one way or another.

NonnyMouse1337 · 19/11/2019 15:09

Yes, but she says the ESTA was already issued. Which means US Homeland Security determined that she passed all of the above criteria.

NonnyMouse1337 · 19/11/2019 15:12

There could be any number of reasons why it was revoked then. Probably a legitimate decision, but hard to tell if they don't inform her why it was revoked! Hopefully she can obtain clarification via a FOI. Pretty stressful for her all round.

happydappy2 · 19/11/2019 15:49

Twitter showing that AH gloating about being at the American embassy this morning.....

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 19/11/2019 15:54

This is one of the main reasons I stay anonymous - I sometimes have to travel for work, and my family has moved various places over the years - my son is a 3rd country national. I couldn't risk getting on a list and not being able to do my job/not be able to visit my son in the future.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/11/2019 16:01

Well well well...

Who is tweeting photos of the US embassy just now? Clue... 🥼 🎣

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/11/2019 16:03

Oh sorry - not saying they are a doctor these days... but suggesting they have had ‘important diplomatic business’ there.

picklemepopcorn · 19/11/2019 16:04

What petty minded vindictive peabrain would do this sort of thing? How can someone look at themselves in a mirror knowing they interfere in someone else's life in this way over A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/11/2019 16:06

Under investigation by professional body too. Someone certainly has problems with impulse control.

Carowiththegoodhair · 19/11/2019 16:26

To be clear. I used to be flight crew and had a valid crew visa.

I applied for an ESTA two weeks ago and it was granted.

I have no criminal convictions, have never been questioned by the police and as far as I know am not under investigation for anything.

The charges I am facing are civil - and it has not yet even been determined whether or not a trial for contempt is going to be allowed to proceed, though an application for a committal hearing has been made.

An account has been set up to cyber stalk and harass me. Last week it tweeted that I would not be allowed entry to the US without a visa, IF convicted.

(Though if convicted I would be a civil prisoner because this is not a CPS case).

As yet I am not facing any criminal charges. I answered all ESTA questions truthfully.

But I was stupid enough to say on FB that I was looking forward to the warm weather.

It is both terrifying that people can act in such a vindictive fashion and a scandal that some random stranger off the internet can make up a load of bunkum, tell the embassy and simply be believed. They probably filed a corresponding hate incident or fake report with the police to make it stick.

Cuntysnark · 19/11/2019 16:29

What a shitshow. Hope it’s resolved. Solidarity Caroline.

Carowiththegoodhair · 19/11/2019 16:29

Sorry, so turned up today for flight and turned away. I was told the ESTA had not been authorised. This is apparently unheard of. None of the airline officials have ever come across this before and nobody informed me that authorisation had been pulled.

Last week the stalking accounts tweeted that I had a big surprise coming. I guess this was it.

Michelleoftheresistance · 19/11/2019 16:32

Caro surely the point has come where you have legal recourse for harassment, if not a restraining order? This is ridiculous, you have civil rights.

Stupiddriver1 · 19/11/2019 16:33

Can you report him to the GMC for harrassment? I know there wouldn’t be enough proof for a court against him but I assume the gmc have a lower threshold and his gloating tweets make it fairly obvious?

RagingBall · 19/11/2019 16:33

This is not good. Hope you get to the bottom of it Caroline

Stupiddriver1 · 19/11/2019 16:34

But yes if you can find proof it was him try for a criminal conviction against him. Would the American embassy confirm it was him though.,..doubtful?

OvaHere · 19/11/2019 16:35

I'm sorry Caro. This is appalling harassment.

Michelleoftheresistance · 19/11/2019 16:36

I would hope the embassy also take legal action if it turns out they have been lied to in order to use them as a means of petty harassment in a personal vendetta.

I'd screenshot all tweets.

definitelygc · 19/11/2019 16:44

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. My experience is that we have little sway with foreign embassies but an American citizen complaining about this would have a lot more traction. Embassies are accountable to their citizens, not citizens of foreign govts. I suggest you try to rally our gender critical friends across the pond to complain and get this in the US press. It might only be the right wing press who are interested but they tend to be pretty interested in anything that threatens the first amendment.

NonnyMouse1337 · 19/11/2019 16:50

That sounds awful. Is there any way to gather proof of who decided to revoke the ESTA and why?
If it shows someone was manipulating and abusing such access, I'd imagine it would be a pretty serious breach of protocol.
