Hi Mumsnet, I’m an Independent councillor on LCC. My name is Sarah Field and I’m a huge follower of Mumsnet Feminists.

Anyway am just putting a call out for anyone who still wants to buy a WPUK ticket for this Friday. Venue will be released in the afternoon. Unfortunately I’m not well enough to be on the panel, but would love to see the venue packed to the rafters and looking forward to listening to some amazing women.

Due to a shock cancer diagnosis in early July I’ve had to drop the mantle due to chemotherapy and a rough few months. But slowly I want to get back momentum and take back the fight against Leeds misogyny and its sex trade.

I'm nowhere near Leeds but your speech at another event became somewhat legendary here on MN, and I know we were devastated to hear of your diagnosis. Wishing you all the very best.

GrinitchSpinach · 18/11/2019 21:48

Are you really Sarah Field?! An absolute heroine around these parts! I will find links to threads singing your praises in a minute, but would just like to say as an American—I wish I could come to the meeting, and I wish ANY US politician had your guts and gumption and integrity.

Wishing you all the strength in the world for a complete remission.

OhHolyJesus · 18/11/2019 21:55

Hi Sarah, you're a legend and a fighter. I'm nowhere near Leeds but it's going to be an incredible event and I wish I could be there, I hope to get news from some friends who are going.

Strength to you, especially for the battle against the cancer. Cancer is the bitchiest of bitches.

Terfykins · 18/11/2019 21:56

Hi Sarah - I can’t get to Leeds on Friday, but I hope the meeting is a big success. And I particularly want to thank you for your speech in May, which was the best I’ve ever heard on this subject, and to wish you a very very full and quick recovery.

Cuntysnark · 18/11/2019 21:57

Unfortunately I can’t make the event, but I just wanted to add to the well earned chorus of thanks for all that you have done. Am in awe of your bravery and wish you all the very best.

FlaviaAlbia · 18/11/2019 22:03

I'm also too far away but I just wanted to say how amazing your speech was. It was powerful.

I'm sorry to hear about your health and I hope you're back to your best asap FlowersWineCake

RagingBall · 18/11/2019 22:04

I'm near to Leeds and have a ticket!

terfsandwich · 18/11/2019 22:04

Best wishes from Australia Sarah. Your speech was simply amazing.

MuthaFunka61 · 18/11/2019 22:11

I'll be there with some friends and we're looking forward to the event.

Another one here who'd like to thank you for your amazing speech in May it was inspiring and I shared it round some friends. I recall nodding in agreement as I read and still remember your words about women's feelings towards our bodies due to media, fashion and make up manufacturers pressure, I use this when ever I hear someone say " imagine feeling as though you're born in the wrong body". When I remind people about how women (not all) are pressured to change their body there's generally a silent or verbal agreement. Thank you for highlighting this.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

iguanadonna · 18/11/2019 22:11

Your speech was inspirational! Thank you for your work and wishing you a speedy recovery.

MadgePickup · 18/11/2019 22:11

Thank you everyone! I learnt everything from Feminism Chat and then Julie Bindel, Fiona Broadfoot and Magdalen Berns.

This is the most articulate place on the internet and I fan girl over you.

If any of you can make it, here is the link:

Hi Sarah, I hope your treatment is going well! Can't make it to Leeds but thank you for everything but you're doing.

GiloulovesLaure · 18/11/2019 22:20

I'm going. Can't wait!
Sarah, I was there for your speech in Leeds and it was indeed inspirational. Really showed up the spinelessness of so many politicians.
Wishing you well.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 18/11/2019 22:26

Being on that council must be like being the kid from The Sixth Sense.

"I see stupid people. They don't know they're stupid."

LangCleg · 18/11/2019 22:27

I'm too far away as well but welcome to Mumsnet, Sarah. You are, indeed, a legend.

Flowers for all that you do.

MuthaFunka61 · 18/11/2019 22:31

Hi @GiloulovesLaure.
I'll be in Leeds too. You can recognise me due to fair coloured dreads which I generally wrap in a green scarf.
Come and say hello.

@MadgePickup, I'll come to find you so long as you're not swamped by others and you don't mind.

So looking forward to this.

OvaHere · 18/11/2019 22:33

Hi Sarah. Glad to hear you are doing okay.

I'll be there on Friday.

nettie434 · 18/11/2019 22:50

I'm too far away to go but the link to your speech was one of the first things I ever followed here. It was fantastic. Wishing you all the best Sarah.
