I've just told LibDem canvasser to sling it!

I've just told a Lib Dem canvasser to stay away from my home as I will never vote for a party that undermines women's rights. He tried to ignore me as he swerved to get off my path so I shouted after him if he agreed with Jo Swinson that women could have penises!

He muttered that I was anti-democratic, which is a bit rich considering they want to ignore the referendum completely.

I'm now cringing... Blush

Neighbour's probably think I'm mad! Grin

Don’t agree with ignoring women’s rights but any party that wants to ignore the ref result is sound by me. It’s going to plunge the country into a fucking recession and cause serious harm. Who literally gives a shit what some uninformed people voted for 3.5 years ago?

BovaryX · 11/11/2019 15:10

Hey, good for you! I think the phrase du jour is silence is acquiescence....

MrGsFancyNewVagina · 11/11/2019 15:10

It’s a shame you didn’t invite him in for a coffee and sit between him and the door while you grilled him. But still..... Grin

Joisanofthedales · 11/11/2019 15:11

Brava Maeb.Flowers I hope I am as brave if anyone comes canvassing

museumum · 11/11/2019 15:11

Just curious, honestly not goady, but are you going to vote for anybody? I really thought they were all pretty much saying the same on this topic.

GoFiguire · 11/11/2019 15:14

i find that licking them makes them disappear.

Justhadathought · 11/11/2019 15:15

Neighbour's probably think I'm mad! grin

"Did you hear 'next door' this morning?. Shouting after that poor chap: Something like " women don't have penises".......I hope she's O.K!"

maeb · 11/11/2019 15:17

He caught me by surprise as I was leaving the house otherwise I would have asked why Aimee Challenor was no longer with them too.

I'll have to prepare my questions for the other parties.

Isn’t just ignoring the 52% of UK voters in a referendum who voted leave ‘who gives a shit what some uninformed people voted’ is exactly the same sort of world view that dismisses any sort of gender critical thinking as a T**f or a transphobe - engage with ideas don’t dismiss people’s as thick or bigots - cos people can then do the same to you

Floisme · 11/11/2019 15:18

I'm a depressed remainer but what depresses me even more than Brexit is the idea that it's ok to ignore referendums (yes I know it wasn't legally binding) and to sneer at the views of 17 million people. But it does help me understand how we got into this mess in the first place.

Anyway back to the thread and good for you op.

maeb · 11/11/2019 15:18

Next door probably just heard me shout 'PENISES!'

I find this attitude really odd. I voted remain myself, and felt shocked and sad with the result. However, it was a democratic vote. We can't all throw tantrums when results don't go our way. Can you imagine if every time we had a general election, the losing party insisted on redoing it until they won?

I think it's all part of a bigger 'We're always right and the other guys are always wrong' attitude that has gradually emerged in recent years, very undemocratic.

There is a big part of the population who are unhappy with immigration and the EU, if we just ignore them the problems don't go away.

Anyway, well done OP for telling the Libdems to go elsewhere, they don't want our vote so they won't get it!

RealityNotEssentialism · 11/11/2019 15:21

lucas perhaps.... when it comes to the massive mistake that was calling a referendum and the disastrous effects it will have, I don’t care though. Maybe it makes me undemocratic but hey ho.

BovaryX · 11/11/2019 15:22

Well said Lucas

RealityNotEssentialism · 11/11/2019 15:23

Ceridwen there are countless examples in many countries of re-ballots and second referendums. At the time, it was not presented as being no deal. What’s undemocratic about calling a second ref now we have a clearer idea? I find it equally baffling that people demand that there is just one bite of the cherry. Things change.

RealityNotEssentialism · 11/11/2019 15:24

I mean there’s talk of food and medicine shortages so fuck any talk about the 52%. People deserve to stay alive and that’s infinitely more important than what a bare majority want. Hiding this thread now as it’s making my blood boil.

CeridwenTheWitch · 11/11/2019 15:26

Walks slowly backwards disappearing into a hedge à la Homer Simpson to avoid a discussion about Brexit

yasle · 11/11/2019 15:27

When canvassers from any party come to my door, I tell them yes, I'll be voting for them. You do realise that it's the easiest way to get rid of a canvasser?

In fact the choice is shit, shitter, even shitter or shittest. So I'll not be voting at all.

MaybeDoctor · 11/11/2019 15:33

What's the conservative position on all this?

Don't know why I'm asking, as the Tories always get elected round my way anyway!

Might go down the ballot spoiling route?

smemorata · 11/11/2019 15:40

However, it was a democratic vote.

  • electoral law flouted
  • thousands of voters disenfranchised
  • postal votes not counted
  • lies told by official campaigners
  • referendum treated as binding when it was advisory
  • interference from abroad
Why on earth do you think it was democratic? I have higher standards for democracy.

lucasthecat · 11/11/2019 15:49

To quote realitynotessentialism - ‘Fuck any talk of 52% - there’s going to be food and medicine shortages’ sounds scarily similar - to - words are literal violence - or you are denying my right to exist essentially emotive arguments to drown out a different democratic view - lots of countries aren’t in the EU - and still manage to get hold of drugs - and avoid their populations starving -

Antibles · 11/11/2019 15:50

Well done maeb!

BovaryX · 11/11/2019 15:50

Maybedoctor,
I don’t know what the Conservative position is on this but if they had any sense, they should be explicitly rejecting any newspeak nonsense about and trying to woo the alienated voters the Lib Dems and Labour are losing by pandering to this lunacy

maeb · 11/11/2019 15:50
