Judicial review for woman prisoner alleging sexual assault by trans rapist in prison

The Sunday Times reporting a long overdue judicial review after an (alleged) sexual assault on a woman prisoner by a male born trans rapist who had been placed in a female prison. (trying to be careful with language given the oppressive monitors who try to control this board).

And they've reported on the Centre Parks issue as well as a prominent article about that major brands like Unilever and Heinz advertising on Pornhub that's awash with child sex abuse. Share token:

Darren Goode changed his name several times and fathered eight children by five women. He is not in any way 'intersex'.

Ah right. I thought the intersex thing didn't ring true at all. He fathered 8 kids with an 'oversized clitorus' eh..medical marvel ideed Hmm

Hopeful twitter thread from FPFW: as well as supporting this claim, they have had permission to bring a Judicial Review of all trans prison policies in England and Wales. The hearing is on 28-29 October.

Off to find a spade and do some deep digging.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/10/2020 09:21

Oh wow, that is big.

highame · 25/10/2020 09:32

Bit more digging done, but it's about time they got some solid government funding.

LizzieSiddal · 25/10/2020 10:02

That's fabulous news about the review.

ArabellaScott · 25/10/2020 10:19

This is great news.

boatyardblues · 25/10/2020 10:34

That is a great thread by FPFW, especially the point about these policies being implemented AFTER women had already been sexually assaulted by a transwoman placed in the female estate. For anyone new to this debate, that should raise a few eyebrows.

RozWatching · 25/10/2020 10:50

Yes, it's unbelievable that FPFW is having to do all these things.
boatyardblues · 25/10/2020 11:06

Yes, if the EHRC and GEO were actually doing their job properly none of these harmful policies would have been implemented in the first place. You had one job, guys....

MichelleofzeResistance · 25/10/2020 11:14

Great news.

It's abhorrent that a policy so radically and only affecting vulnerable women with such risks and disadvantage to them was actually put into place without consulting those women, or any women's groups or representatives.

The policy of course was solely to the advantage of male people with massive intervention and consultation from those males and male groups and representatives.

The inequality, the absolute disregard for and subordinating of the interests of those born female to male interests is in itself beyond comprehension that it was allowed to happen.

MerchedCymru · 25/10/2020 11:29

Absolutely. We have plenty of data that shows that female prisoners are a hugely vulnerable group. High levels of violence and abuse, experience of homelessness, poverty, addiction. All entirely set aside in the interests of men.

The Women and Equalities Committee deserves a special mention for being utterly useless. And there is an All Party Parliamentary Group on Women in the Penal System. This should be on their radar, surely?

If only they could sue the EHRC to recover the costs of this and all the other judicial reviews seeking to uphold the Equality Act. The lack of action by EHRC surely smacks of sexual discrimination by them?
MichelleofzeResistance · 25/10/2020 13:04

Its almost as if the known way to ensure a subject is nicely put to bed without risk of anything inconvenient ever actually getting done about it, is to appoint a committee.

For live updates.....this thread (1-28) gives the backstory that led to THIS judicial review to be heard in the Royal Courts 28th - 19th October.

Brilliant. Thank you all for the updates.

This is huge. Such great work by FPFW. Makes me worried about this review of JRs the government have commissioned. Women have been writing to their MPs about this prison issue for years now. The idea that Parliament should, or could, or would want to decide on some of what JRs cover now is completely disingenuous.

JamieLeeCurtains · 25/10/2020 20:47

Re the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Women in the Penal System, the Howard League for Penal Reform acts as its Secretariat.

DerryWitch · 26/10/2020 10:58

@fairplaywomen will be reporting on the proceedings this week. Good thread here that traces their work over the past three years to reveal this problem.

Thanks to the update info posted here I was going to start a new thread to alert FWRers that case starts on 28th and may run to 29th.

And that a new group has been set up called Keep Prisons Single Sex twitter.com/NoXYinXXprisons

Just thought it would alert more to this after such along time. Giving link to this thread - of course!

Will wait until later this evening in case anyone thinks not a good idea as it splits information.

DerryWitch · 26/10/2020 20:26

This is a good article. Fair Play For Women asked women prisoners. More than the Ministry of Justice did.

Angryresister · 26/10/2020 20:40

Why are politicians continuing to deny the problems when the prison personnel have voiced their objections? Oh yes because it is only women affected. FPFW has done fantastic work on this and we will be watching this week.

EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus · 26/10/2020 20:56

The Keep Prisons Single Sex website has just gone up, with a lot of information about men in women's prisons.
