GC Doula ‘hounded out’ of Doula UK Charity

It is a daily fail link (complete with sad face photo) - www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7643251/Charity-hounds-birth-coach-post-saying-women-children.html

Summary - a GC doula has been kicked out of the organisation for gender critical views. She has said exactly what I feel and what I would want a doula to say if she were supporting me through pregnancy and labour. About 20 TRAs wrote to the organisation to complain about her sparking a four month suspension and before she was found to have breached their guidelines.

If you would like to contact Doula UK, the PR is Sarah Robinson and her email is [email protected]. She is listed as the main contact and I can’t find details of anyone else on the website.

Suspension - I meant investigation.

Enraging. We can't even have childbirth to ourselves. Which they wouldn't fucking want even if they could have it.

It's 1984 coming true. Deliberately exercise of power and control over others by forcing them not to speak pain, basic, simple obvious truths.

Trans is misogyny's teflon coated trump card du jour.

I don't know how it is across the pond, but in the states midwives and doulas are steeped in woo and very, very woke, so I am not surprised by this. I wish I could find it, but I remember watching a video on YouTube where a group of midwives-in-training talked about how they either left or were kicked out of a lecture/event because they were being told to use gender-neutral language like "birthing parent", "chestfeeding", etc. and they called bullshit.

I never really understood the saying "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" quite as viscerally as I do now.

The article says that around 20 TRAs contacted Doula UK after Lynsey McCarthy-Calvert’s Facebook post that only women can have babies.

Please support Lynsey and let Doula UK know what you think of their decision.

Email = [email protected]

I noticed in the article it said about Cancer Research removing the word 'women' from their smear test campaign and replaced with 'people with a cervix'. I've only recently 'peak trans' so this may have been before my time, does anyone know how long ago this was?

TileFloors · 03/11/2019 06:59

Midwives in the uk are highly trained clinical professionals who deliver the majority of babies in this country (obstetricians are always on standby if things get more complicated but they don’t do straightforward deliveries). This is different from the States, where the expectation is that all babies will be delivered by obstetricians. Midwife in the uk is a far more respected, trained, and scientific profession than in the States.

Doulas are different. They may or may not (I understand they usually don’t) have clinical training, and their main function is to accompany, coach and advocate for women in and around a normal labour.

does anyone know how long ago this was?

A little over a year ago

I did find it interesting btw that in the recent Freddy McConnell birth certificate case, the judge made it fairly clear that their opinion was that if you were deliberately getting pregnant that you were no longer "living as a man".

AlwaysColdHands · 03/11/2019 07:47

I have emailed Doula UK and Lynsey.
Honestly.

realitycalling · 03/11/2019 08:04

It demonstrates a vicious level of bullying that ought to be completely unacceptable. Nowhere on earth have men ever given birth - now or ever and no amount of trantrumming and roaring is ever going to change that.

That poor woman.

FadingStar · 03/11/2019 08:09

The comments are very heartening. People are finally getting sick of this movement. They always know who is female when they pick someone to target and threaten, strangely enough.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 03/11/2019 08:22

I've emailed. Im afraid I was a bit ranty. This on top of the m&s nonsense has got to me!

Mumfun · 03/11/2019 08:23

Didnt know there was a Doula organisation. But their behaviour is disgusting. They should at least be prepared to be open to a range of views but instead showed no tolerance or inclusion.

Catnuzzle · 03/11/2019 08:31

I've emailed. Only women given give birth.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 03/11/2019 08:34

Had any of the 20 given birth or were intending to?

StealthMama · 03/11/2019 08:37

Oh my god, I'm so infuriated this is fucking ridiculous??!! How are they getting away with it?!

Doulas are paid, just to clarify. I had one for my second dc. This is so disappointing ass Doula UK is a tiny group, really, working to support some a choices in pregnancy and labour. A very small group of families will ever use them. What benefit anyone gets from taking an experienced Doula off the list I don't know.

Matereality · 03/11/2019 08:42

If I was looking to hire a doula I'd be strongly inclined to pick one who knows what a woman is and isn't afraid to advocate for us.

I hope that Lynsey gets plenty of new bookings because of this Flowers

What was Doula UK thinking?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 03/11/2019 08:44

I suppose the ‘good’ thing is that the story is now being reported and it shows how a small group is actively targeting anyone they come across (whether it matters to them or not). So could a woman now not be able to request a female doula and refuse of they are offered a trans woman?

It’s a new hobby for a group in society who really need to get a job.

MaybeDoctor · 03/11/2019 08:45

This is madness. I looked into becoming a doula when I was career changing after maternity leave and did a one-day taster course designed to give prospective doulas an idea of what they were getting into before undertaking training, I think it was with Doula Uk. It was utterly clear that it was about woman-centred care. That was in 2010, perhaps 2011. What on earth has happened in the intervening years?

Organisations, on the whole, use the language that meets the needs of the vast majority of their clients rather than alienating the majority of their clients cater to a tiny minority.

Luxury car brands make rather nice cars. All of their sales marketing language is aimed at drivers. I imagine that, very occasionally. a non-driver might purchase one of their cars in order to have a chauffeur drive it on their behalf. But they don’t change every ‘driver’ reference to ‘driver/chauffeur’ or ‘driver/non driving owner’ because it is a) clumsy and b) likely to alienate the core group of people who use their services.

Siameasy · 03/11/2019 08:45

I don’t get why organisations bow to this shit. What would actually happen if the head of the organisation said “yes that’s correct only females give birth”? I mean, their target audience is 100% female so if a load of blokes stop following Doula UK on FB who fucking cares.
You must get extra money as a charity for achieving Stonewall approved status or something like that. It’s gotta be to do with money.
