I think that we are going to continue to be ignored by government, policy makers and industry.

Crime will go up, women will be injured - or worse - and there will be an increase in prejudice against the trans community.

The only thing which will make a difference is if the trans community rejects people like JY. There is a difference between someone with a gender dysphoria and the others under the stonewall umbrella. Unless the dysphoric trans community say "they are not the same as us" then there is no way out of this.

The trans community won't do that until there is a case so heinous that they want to distance themselves from it.

No one will listen to the women, no one ever has.

Is it ok to open some wine now? I'm a bit depressed.

Regarding John Lewis, I'm not convinced they adhere to a single sex policy, they were incredibly evasive with me, emails sent, numerous phone calls etc.

I still haven't received a reply to my email to Next, asking about their changing room policy Angry

Overthisnonsensedotcom · 08/11/2019 18:20

Bad news John Lewis HO confirmed

The location of John Lewis fitting rooms will usually dictate the gender of the customer using that particular fitting room. Any gender should be able to use the fitting room in which they are most comfortable.

For the love of god! Where am I going to get my knickers and Christmas dinner!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/11/2019 18:32

Is the JL statement written down anywhere? I’m just taking screenshots now to illustrate my point when I’m in stores. Easier that tying to convince staff that the company policy is a stupid as it sounds.

Overthisnonsensedotcom · 08/11/2019 18:34

@LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD it was emailed to me. I can DM it to you if you want it and I can figure out how to DM. It’s an absolute cluster.

GrinitchSpinach · 08/11/2019 18:36

Et tu, John Lewis?

What’s that quote about how little women realize how much we’re hated?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/11/2019 18:38

Oh please do. I’m in the big one quite a lot.

Poor clothing sales see M&S's profits slide

Maybe they should have thought of the consequences before alienating the majority of their target audience??

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/11/2019 19:33

Shit is there any safe shop?!!

SirVixofVixHall · 08/11/2019 19:34

Unbelievable that they are ignoring every person on that thread criticising their changing room policy, yet replying, with nodding dog, to the one person who posts an inane reply with loads of emojis.
It makes them look as though they hate women, and have no respect for their core customer. Come on journos, print that thread, and show the nation what M&S think of their customers.

I feel gutted. I am a lifelong customer, I love their gluten free chocolate twisty things, I spend loads of money there. I really don’t want to boycott them, but I can’t shop there when they treat their customers like this.

SirVixofVixHall · 08/11/2019 19:35

We do need to write to John Lewis too. Stores need to wake up to this and provide safe, private changing room and loos for women .

TimeLady · 08/11/2019 20:15

I repeat, confirmed yesterday that JL (Leeds) has curtained cubicles and a stool so that you could reach over the top with a camera phone in both the lingerie and womenswear fitting rooms. Relatively new build, no excuse.

Piss poor choice of bras too, tbh.

littlecabbage · 08/11/2019 20:25

I will indeed email JL over the weekend. Pissed off that I have to though.

GrinitchSpinach · 08/11/2019 20:25

It makes them look as though they hate women, and have no respect for their core customer.

Feature, not a bug, apparently. Women should spend their pounds accordingly (and spread the word, too.)

OhHolyJesus · 08/11/2019 20:35

So are we all going to shop online only and return what we don't want? Work out at home so we don't have to go to a gym?

No, we are not. Men's changing rooms it is for me, not that I ever buy clothes.

M&S and JL can stuff it right up their chuffing backsides.

I hope they crumble, they will lose out big time this Christmas.

PurpleCrowbar · 08/11/2019 20:41

Bugger, so I can't take the dds to John Lewis for their bi-annual bra fest then, either? Or their uniform trousers?

(I'm an expat. We usually spend lots in M&S when we visit the UK).

Looks like I'll need to order them an absolute fucktonne of stuff from M&S to try on in the privacy of their bedroom in our UK house this Christmas then.

I'm really worried that none of it will be quite right, & we'll have to send it all back Grin.

& then we'd have to go elsewhere. Shame if JL isn't 'elsewhere', though.

IWantADifferentName · 08/11/2019 21:00

I’m thoroughly enjoying the M&S twitter feed!

I’m also an expat and used to get my m&s fill of bras and undies and random other stuff during summer holidays. No more! They have just lost my £500+ annual clothing spend. And I’ll avoid the food hall now too. God only knows hove much I have spent there in the past!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 08/11/2019 21:20

RE the ad, ignoring the responses for a moment cause I haven't read them yet, their Xmas message is that buying their jumpers will turn you into one of the zombies from the Thriller video? How very seasonal!

TatianaLarina · 08/11/2019 22:06

I’d be less concerned about camera phones. As I said before there are voyeur websites where punters share changing room shots among other things. They’re generally done with cheap hidden cameras - pegs, clocks, air fresheners, fake plugs. Much less likely to get caught.

SirVixofVixHall · 08/11/2019 22:39

There is some tosser on that thread likening women victims of sexual assault, to a hypothetical someone who is left afraid of dogs after a bite, so would hypothetically want a blind man with a guide dog to be kept out of a restaurant. Really.
Honestly I often think that men have NO IDEA what daily life is like for women. The never ending risk assessment of every situation, every dark car park, every unlit road. The relief of a single sex space. He actually says that fear of men is “rare” after assault.

teawamutu · 08/11/2019 23:28

He's doing a magnificent job of mansplaining, isn't he?

SirVixofVixHall · 08/11/2019 23:34

Magnificent. He should write the book. He probably has already.

SingingLily · 08/11/2019 23:52

Gah! I was convinced John Lewis was doing the right thing. I don't know where to shop now.

Honestly I often think that men have NO IDEA what daily life is like for women

I told my DH earlier this evening about the posters on the inside of doors of cubicle doors in the women's toilets of pubs, motorway service stations, and the like - the posters giving emergency safety advice and a safe number to ring for women at risk of domestic violence, trafficking, forced marriage and so on. He was aghast. Posters like that simply do not appear in men's toilets.
