Is the SMT ‘tanking it’?

Birdsfoottrefoil · 06/11/2019 08:30

BBC report on M&S 17% drop in profits

I am sure their new strategy of reaching out to 1% of the population whilst excluding 51% will help

StealthMama · 06/11/2019 08:35

and Steve Rowe awarding himself a 48% pay rise this year....

I'd love to see the gender pay gap report for the m & s board.

Datun · 06/11/2019 08:36

BBC report on M&S 17% drop in profits

"and Steve Rowe awarding himself a 48% pay rise this year...."

It's just laughable isn't it?

Cuntysnark · 06/11/2019 08:39

Their debt is 10 times their profit-it’s not looking good. If you have shares-ditch them!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/11/2019 08:44

Is the raise a reward for being so woke he's convinced everyone to buy their Xmas food somewhere else?

Birdsfoottrefoil · 06/11/2019 08:49

Cuntysnark agree but I don’t think you need to bother with dept/profit ratios. You just need to go into a store and look at what they are selling, consider their attitude towards core customers with eg changing room policies, diluting their food with other branded goods...

I notice Mothercare have gone into administration - you could see it coming with their attitude in stores. M&S is going the same way.

AutumnCrow · 06/11/2019 08:53

Did shareholders really approve that level of pay rise for Steve Rowe? Or was it self-awarded?

M&S is in real trouble. It's banking on Xmas food profits to give itself a breather, but if the tens of thousands of women who have viewed the online M&S changingroomgate online materials do shop elsewhere, those extra millions aren't going to materialise.I

I hope the shareholders are aware of this debacle. It's their money at stake. There are probably pension funds involved.

WrathofSIxFootSIxEIfKIop · 06/11/2019 09:01

This changing room may contain nuts

I might just find a suitable sticker to warn other women of the dangers of
The Wanking Man scenario (TWM)

In Risk Assessment speak, the likelihood of TWM happening is high and the resulting effect would be negative and damaging.

Therefore it is a red flag.

Cuntysnark · 06/11/2019 09:02

Birdsfoottrefoil It just adds to the picture. I’ve emailed Archie Norman and got a fob off from ‘Alice’. My reply, that I haven’t yet sent, would earn me a deletion and a strike if I typed it here.

Cuntysnark · 06/11/2019 09:03

I’m being lazy but didn’t someone say they were going to write a snappy flyer to use in M&S in anyway we see fit? Has that been posted?

TimeLady · 06/11/2019 09:20

I can see the clothing arm of the business failing and the big stores closing in the not too distant future. The whole 'department store' model has been superceded by supermarket own brands and online shopping.

StealthMama · 06/11/2019 10:54

@AutumnCrow the board would have had to approve it (who work on behalf of shareholders) a majority approval. The board is made up of 11 men and 4 women.

Dangerfloof · 06/11/2019 11:53

This threads moved on a bit since I was last reading it. That man wanking in underwear then putting it back. OMG that's more than revolting. Wtf is wrong with him.

Ninkaninus · 06/11/2019 12:05

That’s the problem - this sort of man, or ‘woman’, according to some, is exactly the type who is now allowed into any and all female-only spaces, because according to M&S men’s feelz completely trump womens’ and girls’ rights to privacy and dignity. They wouldn’t want to ‘victimise’ them...but that’s not a problem when it’s women and girls.

Batshit crazy.

Our daughters and their daughters don’t deserve to grow up in a world where this is the way women are treated.

Usernumbers1234 · 06/11/2019 12:17

@Raindrops17

It wasn’t privacy concerns from the OP. She asked for it to be removed as it duplicated this thread.....

Of course has nothing to do with the fact that the responses in there where overwhelmingly opposed to boycotting M&S. Because, y’know, most normal people don’t want to see retail workers losing their jobs before Christmas because a load of people who reside in an echo chamber say so.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 06/11/2019 12:21

R4 you and yours covering M and S NOW

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 06/11/2019 12:22

Will probably swerve this topic. And the halal shit.

Ninkaninus · 06/11/2019 12:36

@Usernumbers1234 Are you referring to the poll thread that was removed? Because there was a name change fail, as far as I could tell, and further, MNHQ did state it was a privacy breech with repercussions IRL, so I presume your assertion is nothing more than a presumption? Or do you have some insider knowledge as to why the thread was removed which you’d like to share with us?

If not, I’ll just trust MNHQ that their deletion was due to the reason they actually stated in their deletion message.

I don’t care how few or how many other people boycott M&S - my own principled stance is enough for me.

Those people who are so hard of thinking that their own action would have been in any way dictated by which way a yes or no poll swung, are too stupid to actually have been of any consequence to this fight, so I very much doubt that OP would have tried to get the poll taken down for that very dubious reason.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 06/11/2019 12:40

Did anyone hear the R4? Was it... ok/car crash/toe curling?

PinaGrigio · 06/11/2019 12:58

It's on now, Fekko. Just mentioned the changing rooms, but only briefly and no follow up by the interviewer.

'Most of our customers....use the rooms in the area they've been shopping in'.....then straight on to something else

littlecabbage · 06/11/2019 12:59

They read out my question about men in female changing rooms! She admitted that was allowed but said that “most people” would use the changing room normal for their sex [hmmm]

Hopefully educated a few more about this policy! Grin

Angryresister · 06/11/2019 13:01

Yes...repeated the “wherever customers feel comfortable” line...went unchallenged. I did feel sorry for the woman defending this crap though.

HelloYouTwo · 06/11/2019 13:02

FFS Winifred Robinson, she just let that slide by. “They use the changing rooms for the area they’ve been shopping in” so a bloke wanting to try on a nice frilly Per Una number can do just that alongside women? And nothing to stop any man taking a pair of trousers into a women’s changing area under the pretext of “being more comfortable” there?

I guess they just hang their staff out to take the flak and deny or allow access?

jhuizinga · 06/11/2019 13:02

At least the question was asked which means more people becoming aware of the policy. Jill Stanton sounded quite nervous. She talked about the huge amount of àgoodwill that M&S still has. As LinkedIn shows her as Women's & Kid's Director at M&S it might be worth emailing her directly if anyone knows her email address, pointing out that that goodwill might be leaking away.
