I know we have 'known' this for a while, but this is now their official response. How many 'inappropriate' incidents will be necessary before they see sense?

And nice of them to say they’ll take action when someone acts inappropriately.

Horse. Stable cubicle . door. Bolted. Etc

ImGenderfree · 01/11/2019 18:12

Numbers that is the quote I used when contacting M&S and cancelling my account.

Sparklfairy · 01/11/2019 18:14

Dangerfloof I'm in the SE so it's unlikely we'll be crossing paths Sad

However, I have tweeted my intentions to use male spaces. My follower count is in the tens of thousands so hopefully it will spread some awareness. Response so far has been supportive with no abuse or pervs!

Silencedwitness · 01/11/2019 18:26

@Sparklfairy I’d happily join you. I’m more in the east of the south. Think big city with famous old university. Would love to follow you on twitter if you can dm me your handle.

That is an excellent reply Vicky

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 01/11/2019 18:30

I'm close to a Midlands city famous for crisps Smile

Silencedwitness · 01/11/2019 18:51

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz I love crisps 😀

I might take my youngest who is erm noisy and fairly difficult into the boys. I’m not feminine at all so assuming we’ve got back to a time where sex is defined by feminine non feminine I should be fine in the boys. Maybe we should fine out where these policy makers spend their free time, check out the toilet policy and join them in the loos.

Overthisnonsensedotcom · 01/11/2019 18:54

Sent this to Steve Rowe earlier and got a cut and paste non answer back. I’ve pointed out to them they haven’t answered my question. Let’s see what’s next. This is now absurd.

Steve,

Can M&S promise female only changing facilities where I can take my 11 year old daughter for her first bra fitting?

Female only changing facilities make me and my 11 year old daughter feel comfortable.

Do we matter?

JustAnotherMammi · 01/11/2019 18:59

Excellent email Vicky! Would love to see the response

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/11/2019 19:07

Lorks, just seen a tweet from Debenhams sating that you can use whatever sex facility you present as (not sure exactly what that really means though).

Well I’m stuffed because I often wear my sons cast off jumpers and hoodies now (he’s a big lad now!) and usually unisex shoes and jeans. Crickey I present as a male kid then as I have been know to wear a cast of school rugby jumper.

Lingerie fitting rooms are dedicated to that service only. Um, yes, great. So a man who feels more comfortable in women's lingerie can get fitted there.

lovebeingmum · 01/11/2019 19:26

In Europe most of the changing rooms in retail stores are unisex. Toilets on trains and coaches have always been for anyone to use. Disabled toilets are also multi gender, I have never heard anyone complain about these things

HandsOffMyRights · 01/11/2019 19:27

Debenhams, not so long ago a breastfeeding mother was told she could not breastfeed her baby in the cafe and was sent to queue up in the baby changing area. Shocking enough you singled out a breastfeeding mother, but...

Debenhams, using your new logic, can males now access this area too?

HoneyandSpice · 01/11/2019 19:28

Add me to the list of those who are boycotting.

To be fair, they are crap with their bra fitting (moved on to Bravissimo years ago) Clothes are shit (bought one pair of black jeggings this year cos I had a giftcard) and the advent calendar is pants this year anyway.
Bye M&S. Hope you disappear up your own arse! And don't even think about coming crawling back to us 'women'

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/11/2019 19:32

I think yes as it’s a changing area. Not specifically a breast feeding room. I used to feed dd in rooms like this in fairness. Bit smelly. Not great but needs must.

Oliversmumsarmy · 01/11/2019 19:37

So stay at home

Looks like M&S customers will

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/11/2019 19:40

@ HandsOffMyRights so they were left left ‘crying in shock’. I wonder how they were dressed and if they were ‘presenting themselves as’. Sadly selfie filters being what they are people can get a rather different impression of how they look as opposed to reality. Maybe that why some people are left in tears/hysterical etc when challenges.

Compare to Mary Beard - made to strip to her undies in the airport and she just shrugs it off (and doesn’t want to name names or get the staff into trouble for following the rules). A classy lady is Ms Beard.

I can’t say I’ve come across many unisex areas on mainland Europe - and ‘multi’ gender? How many is that then and what does that have to do with sexual? And disabled loos are sadly fewer than there ought be (company’s numbers of people who need these with those who ‘need’ unisex loos and wonder why) and usually a single room with washbasin, loo etc all enclosed.

HoneyandSpice · 01/11/2019 19:43

Thing is Mummyoflittledragon how long before it becomes ok for men to come into breastfeeding rooms? I breastfed DD till she was 3.5yrs old. Was happy to do it (discreetly) in public. But it's been proven that perverts get off on actually seeking out ways of getting easy access to women, their boobs, changing clothes (smartphones videoing up skirts / wanking in adjacent cubicles) whilst they feel safe

poshme · 01/11/2019 19:47

M&S clearly don't aim to sell to any Muslim women then.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/11/2019 19:48

There was a person who kicked off because they accompany a woman into a clinic for a mammogram because it was a woman only area.

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/11/2019 19:49

@HoneyandSpice
There was a thread about this exact subject a few months ago. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3657590-To-think-that-men-shouldnt-come-into-breastfeeding-rooms?msgid=89128590

1000 posts. Shockingly a fair chunk of women were ok with this.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/11/2019 19:50

@poshme - with the halal meat and the ‘modesty‘ clothes range/hijab for wee girls they were selling a while ago, they are all over the place!
