When I read this article I thought it is so bonkers I couldn't be bothered to really think about it.

But decided it is so topsy turvy in its thinking that I wanted to share.

So now we now biological women are little more than exploitative capitalists privatising womanhood! Grin

Penis owner tells vagina owners what to do. Same old story for the past couple of millennia at least.

BeMoreMagdalen · 28/10/2019 19:07

Um. Right. It's late, and I'm ill, and I don't have the energy, but I'm sure someone will come along and point out what an epic load of reversal bollocks that is with more eloquence than I can muster.

OhHolyJesus · 28/10/2019 19:08

Privatising womanhood Grin yep it's all for power and control. That's a stretch at the best of times let alone during these times.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 28/10/2019 19:15

Christ on a bike, I know the rhetoric from these people is getting increasingly desperate but the bottom of the barrel is being well and truly scraped here!

littlbrowndog · 28/10/2019 19:16

🤣🤣🤣🤣. Truly utterly bonkers

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 28/10/2019 19:17

Mushrooms are like bicycles and women who refuse to share theirs are like Pol Pot!

Male human aggressively refuses to understand women's needs, feels very smug about it. The only new thing about this is how unfortunate the male human in question's eyeshadow is.

zebrasdontwearbras · 28/10/2019 19:21

The refusal to share space or ‘earned’ privilege

Womanhood = "earned privilege" ? I don't think so. To put it in language they'll understand: the human beings born with penises have oppressed the humans born with vaginas for millennia. So sod off with you weirdy queer theory rubbish.

They're the neoliberals. Darvo again.

Same old, same old.

allmywhat · 28/10/2019 19:22

I don't like capitalists. I don't like feminists. Therefore, feminists are bad in exactly the same way as capitalists are bad.

I think there is something very interesting in how the trans movement uses metaphor instead of logic to make its arguments. They are all very invested in magical thinking.

This is going to sound bad, but every time I read an argument by a transactivist I start thinking about the reversal of the Flynn effect - population IQ peaked for people born in the mid-70s and has been steadily declining since.

I don't say that to make IQ sound more important than it is. I'm just wondering if something has changed in the culture that makes people less capable of reason? This article might look at first glance like it's got an argument in it somewhere, but if you try to deconstruct it there is literally no logic there.

Apollo440 · 28/10/2019 19:23

Not a mental illness? After reading that I am struggling to come to any other conclusion in this case.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 28/10/2019 19:25

It’s the vague thinking which irritates me - if you can write an article for a minor newspaper you can presumably read for nuance.

“more often than not arguing that gender is entirely biologically determined”– “if you don’t have a vagina, you have no right to be a woman,” or so the argument goes.”

The constant and inaccurate conflation of biologically determined sex with socially constructed gender and the wilful misrepresentation of feminist arguments is always annoying. There is no “right” to womanhood, we’re not holding a state of being to ransom, it’s the material reality of having female biology.

Also, given the centring of purchased goods in the trans movement (hormones, surgery, clothing, makeup, shoes, glittery handbags), I’m not sure how the writer is in a position to be complaining about capitalism.

3rd rule of misogyny: Women speaking for themselves are exclusionary and selfish.

Not just me, then. Often it reads as if they're not even trying to make a logical argument because they don't think that matters, it's all just well I have feelings about a thing and that means everyone else has to do what I say until those feelings are soothed, because I am a giant toddler.

stumbledin · 28/10/2019 19:35

Sometimes I think articles like this come about because in effect people have been captured by a cult.

And when the "logic" of that cult is challenged rather than face up to the fact they you might have been conned / led up the path, you instead go into overdrive and come out with any old arguement to sustain the fact that you aren't the hostage of a cult, but a fully thinking person who has rationally thought out why you have enslaved your self to the cult magic.

The comments are excellent.

"population IQ peaked for people born in the mid-70s and has been steadily declining since."

I did not know this! It makes a lot of sense. Just as the film "Idiocracy" is starting to seem less amusing...

Michelleoftheresistance · 28/10/2019 20:14

Yeah, basically this translates as 'women saying no are flaunting an unacceptable power over me'.

There's a lot of it about.

Btw, several things coming up a lot lately in the most recent articles and comments from the TRA political lobby:

  • Guys there is no 'GC lobby'. There's no political government funded lobby group. There's several Trans activist government funded political lobbies who lobby government. That's why they're called a lobby.

  • There is no 'GC ideology' either. Look up the word ideology and check the meaning. The GC side of the debate is reality, science and status quo, no one is talking about constructions like gendered souls, creating whole new language and concepts etc. Again, that would be you.

  • I get that seeing words in discussion and feeling that they're powerful can be a driver to try and use those words too, but when you use inaccurate language and it's obvious you've just appropriated it without really understanding it (gaslighting, DARVO, other MN words that have been read with no idea of their content but get scattered around like confetti) it just comes across as a bit silly.

Floisme · 28/10/2019 20:31

How in hell did that get published? It's like Adrian Mole meets The Young Ones.

donquixotedelamancha · 28/10/2019 20:38

in effect taking something that cisgender women “own”. Rather than construe women’s services as a right to be democratically distributed between cisgender and trans women

I think a vote amongst all women about whether women's sports, jails, shelters etc should be single sex is a great idea.

I don't think the words 'democracy' or 'capitalism' mean what the author thinks they mean.

Floisme · 28/10/2019 20:38

I cannot quite believe I feel the need to add that I was referring to Adrian and Rick's writing abilities, not their sex or gender.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 28/10/2019 21:04

I just remembered that I've seen the writer before, in some interview where they were complaining about most straight men not being sufficiently open to shagging them and the ones who claimed to be straight who did being insufficiently willing to get into a relationship. So basically just a raging narcissist all around really.

StillWeRise · 28/10/2019 21:05

hmmm
this thing about magical thinking
and the age of the people who are most vocal
is it perhaps, maybe, a surfeit of Harry Potter at an impressionable age?

zebrasdontwearbras · 28/10/2019 21:07

Guys there is no 'GC lobby'. There's no political government funded lobby group. There's several Trans activist government funded political lobbies who lobby government. That's why they're called a lobby

It cannot be said enough.

Everything we state about the trans lobbyists, always ends up being turned (inaccurately) around on us - women who just want to keep hold of a legally defined meaning of "woman" - that has been scientifically and biologically valid since forever.

MindTheMinotaur · 28/10/2019 21:08

That profile pic. It appears Amrou's head has just struggled free of an enormous anus. 'Glamrou' indeed.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 28/10/2019 21:09

We have seen this person before:
www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/drag-queen-suffers-transphobic-attack-on-london-bus-as-passengers-look-on-and-do-nothing-a3891086.html

I believe the same person was doing a highly sexualised dance routine at the anti trump rally (they made it onto some right wing news sites). They then got hassled on the way home on the bus.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 28/10/2019 21:14

Framing women's spaces as a privilege tells you everything you need to know about the writer's beliefs about women.

TheBullshitGoesOn · 28/10/2019 21:15

Who are these 'cis women' refusing to share spaces? From what I have read, women who call themselves 'cis' often seem to be happy to give up female single sex spaces to include males.
