When I read this article I thought it is so bonkers I couldn't be bothered to really think about it.

But decided it is so topsy turvy in its thinking that I wanted to share.

So now we now biological women are little more than exploitative capitalists privatising womanhood! Grin

This person is too weak to worry about.

How in hell did that get published? It's like Adrian Mole meets The Young Ones.

  1. for clicks
  2. cheap

Perhaps one of you has a login for The Independent. There's a comment sitting there which is begging for a Karen White response.

I’m 6”6” 15 stones and have a lot of stubble. I identify as a woman and I am a lesbian. Should I commit a crime and be jailed I should serve my sentence in a women’s prison. What could go wrong. Isn’t it sexist always to refer to transgender women what about transgender men? This article could be pulled to pieces on so many levels.

Response
So do you have a diagnosis of being trans? Or do you have all your documentation changed? Or would you be committing an act of perjury which could see an additional sentence in your mens prison.

No trans person had even thought of this until the transphobes started fantasising about it. If somebody is a sex-offender, they just wont go to all that trouble and expense - they would just do what they’re going to do anyway. And also, these arguments are not new. Remember when the likes of Martina Navratilova came out as Gay? There was all the moral panic about having lesbians in the womens changing rooms.

Transphobes need to grow up a bit. Live and let live and mind your own business.

Lies. Lies. Lies. It has already happened.

merrymouse · 29/10/2019 09:41

Tenants. Don't the Independent use editors for this stuff?

I think the honest answer is no. They made the sub-editors redundant when they stopped being a print title.

Oldermum156 · 29/10/2019 09:52

@allmywhat - I'm okay with making IQ sound important. It is important. I've always wondered why people rise up in revolt against that concept. Obviously higher IQ people are better at many things and have a higher capacity for much. It isn't everything but it's a lot.

Oldermum156 · 29/10/2019 09:53

Anyway re: the article - some conservatives say the trans movement is just an arm of communism, and this article does that argument no favors.

merrymouse · 29/10/2019 09:56

For it is predicated on a question of private ownership: “Who has the right to own womanhood?”

If there were something called 'womanhood' that women owned, they could give it away. However, being female isn't a value or an idenity, it's just a medical fact, like blood type. The consequences of being born female cannot be avoided, even if feelings of dysphoria lead you to take hormones and have surgery.

Nothing more capitalist that selling the illusion that biological sex is just a matter of aspiration, belief and access to the right drugs.

Oldermum156 · 29/10/2019 09:56

“if you don’t have a vagina, you have no right to be a woman,” - no, if you don't have a vagina, you're NOT a woman. with the rare exception of a few unfortunate baby girls with birth defects. This has nothing to do with "earned privilege" - being born a girl is not a privilege. Ask the precious baby girl found buried alive in India last week, for example, because her parents wanted a boy.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 29/10/2019 10:08

If there were something called 'womanhood' that women owned, they could give it away.

Yes, and imagine how many women over history and now, would have chosen to give it away. If it meant they could avoid being murdered at birth, being impregnated by rape, dying as a result of being denied a safe abortion, being denied a vote, being denied an education (and then being shot in the head for campaigning against this), dying in childbirth, having life altering injuries as a result of childbirth. If they could avoid having to live through debilitating symptoms of their menstrual cycle, or endometriosis, having cervical cancer, taking hormonal contraception or having a piece of plastic stuck up your cervix so that you don't end up becoming pregnant with a baby you don't want because your DH is too chicken shit to get the snip, even though he doesn't want any more kids either. If they could avoid being 'made redundant' whilst on maternity leave, or being looked over for promotion because they have a vagina.

And I haven't even scratched the surface to be honest.

Amrou, you know nothing about womanhood or being a woman. Nothing.

zebrasdontwearbras · 29/10/2019 10:14

Makes sense re: the sub-editors Merrymouse - the unfortunate result being this nonsensical (literally!) personal diatribe making it into (what still must be considered) mainstream media.

My friend (late 40s) is a trained journalist. She constantly laments the dumbing-down of journalism - of course that's not to say there aren't brilliant journalists around - just that their writing sits side by side with this rubbish.

SpamChaudFroid · 29/10/2019 10:23

“Who has the right to own womanhood?”

I'll give you a clue, Glamrou. Not men.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 29/10/2019 10:34

This is just another case of a bloke telling women what they can and can't be, what they can and can't have, just like men have done to women forever.

8th Rule of Misogyny: men are whatever men say they are, and women are whatever men say they are.

Singlewhiteguineapig · 29/10/2019 10:38

The writing is paranoid and delusional. I can’t quite believe that the Independent has published this, they should have passed on the submission to a psychiatrist. Instead they have published online, to be passed around for laughs at the expense of a mentally ill person. The Independent used to be a good paper.

calllaaalllaaammma · 29/10/2019 10:48

Trans people – are consuming the resources of cisgender lesbian, gay, and bisexual people

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

JustAnotherMammi · 29/10/2019 10:56

And in incongruence you either try and distort reality in your mind or end up very depressed. Today it is very easy and actively encouraged to distort reality. Now are stories coming to light of traumatised individuals de-transitioning. I truly admire anyone brave enough to share their story.

Science is real.

"Cis women" are like greedy capitalists refusing to share women's spaces is like privatisation!!
AbsintheFriends · 29/10/2019 11:04

"Rather than construe women’s services as a right to be democratically distributed between cisgender and trans women – for both are women and subject to patriarchal violence (trans women more so)"

Transwomen are subject to more patriarchal violence than women?? Jesus, why did the independent allow that blatant gaslighting falsehood to pass as fact?

DuMondeB · 29/10/2019 11:07

I’m not sharing my ‘private womanhood’ with anyone, not even if ALL the men* take a vote that demands I do.

*and other gendered people who were observed male at birth - don’t smite me Mumsnet!

JustAnotherMammi · 29/10/2019 11:14

@AbsintheFriends I'm not on Twitter and not at all clued up on the 'famous' trans. However apparently one of them self-identifies as a doctor as well!! Probably sourced from them.

If I self-identified as a doctor and started spreading anti-science ideology, I'm pretty sure I'd be sectioned.

Fieldofgreycorn · 29/10/2019 12:28

Women are responsible for what men do.

No in this case this particular woman is responsible for what she does.

TowelNumber42 · 29/10/2019 14:27

Women have to be perfect to be allowed to complain. There is ample evidence that Posie is not a hard right loon. These guys pick up on anything they can twist. Standard abusive behaviour. If we have to be careful to never make a wrong step, we never take a step. They count on it.

CranberriesChoccy · 29/10/2019 14:38

"Self-identifies as a doctor"

😂

I'm going to the bank tomorrow to let them know I self-identify as a millionaire and I'd like to withdraw my funds.

Fieldofgreycorn · 29/10/2019 15:10

True. Don’t get me wrong she’s also hilarious and intelligent I know that.

BeMoreMagdalen · 29/10/2019 17:02

Not. A. Thread. About. Posie.

Unnnndeadcake · 29/10/2019 19:18

So Amrou Al-Khadi wants access to women's spaces and can't understand why not ...... Well, I personally am afraid of all people who seem to be seriously deluded, regardless of gender, sex, age, race or religion and Amrou is also very aggressive about the delusion soo... no. Just no.
