What is being taught in schools regarding transgender ideology?

Hi, is there a thread being kept to record what is being taught in schools in the U.K. Or elsewhere?

I saw this on Twitter. It's in a school in America. For 4th grade which is apparently 9 yrs old.

I just thought, kids are going to be confused. They are going to make children think they are transgender when they're not. Kids will go home from this lesson wondering and worrying if they are born wrong. That's going to lead to bad mental health. Next week how many will say they're transgender? Some may so joyfully because they've never fitted in, they've been gender non-conforming in some way. But changing to the opposite gender, or sex is not the answer. What does it mean "who you are , how you feel as a person"? Is that based on if I like something- a toy or item of clothing or how i play, if I "cry like a girl" like my dad tells me, or not, if I like glitter, pink, and princesses or not? If I like a flowery scarf but my dad said it was for girls? If I'm a girl but I like to play with the boys because they like playing outside like climbing trees and playing in mud? If I'm a boy but I don't like that? If I boy/girl like cars, dolls, dinosaurs, make up, dresses, dancing, rough play or not? Etc. Etc. And if people tell me "that's for girls!" Or " that's for boys"! Because that's how society conditioned them to think too. If I like some boy stuff and some girl stuff am I neither a boy or girl? What am i? Am I both? This is scary.
STOP THIS SEXIST HARMFUL NONSENSE. BREAK THE CYCLE. BOYS AND GIRLS CAN LIKE WHATEVER THEY WANT. THEY ARE STILL BOY OR GIRL AS THEY WERE BORN. Stop confusing children and leading them to a pathway of anxiety, misery, medication, surgery, sterility, suicide, by making them uncertain of who they are and making them think they were born wrong. You are introducing this stuff to any child you teach this to and confusing them. At school they should be taught to break stereotypes, we could do anything, boy or girl. Transgender or transsexual as we used to call it in UK used to be if someone had gender dysphoria which was severe distress or discomfort with their body being the sex it was, I heard stories of boys wanting to chop their penis off and insisting they were a girl, for reasons unknown or various, treatment was to alleviate this distress or discomfort and if necessary transition - meds/surgery, which if not last resort, was certainly not first resort. ( there was also transvestite or cross dresser who liked to dress up for fun or sexual fetish - I guess they've been amalgamated into "transgender", as have "masculine women", and "feminine men" according to stonewall transgender umbrella) ANYWAYS, What you are doing here is asking children to choose if they are a boy or girl based on how they feel, which can only be based on regressive gender stereotypes which our society attributed and conditioned to their sex. We can change that, by breaking the stereotypes..not by saying they need to change themselves. This is going to make children think they are transgender when they are not. Why can people not see they are causing more problem than solving. It's almost like someone or some company will be benefiting from this? Who stands to benefit or make money? Medical companies? Tech? Where did all this suddenly come from? Why are these philosophical theories being taught as fact to kids? Why this social engineering to keep kids in gender stereotype boxes?

Yeh it's the way these things are taught, and at what age. People mentions of No Outsiders, I saw a video going through all the books they use and snippets of lesson plans. (I don't agree with everything in this video btw)

They are babyish children's story books, like aimed at young primary school children. There was transgender stuff there and it was "problematic" to take one of the woke words - gender stereotype stuff. Also, ignore homophobic stuff in that video, there may be some truth to some problems that people had with some of the LGB books as some portray being gay as a best friend type relationship, so it was thought young, primary age, kids would be confused whether their relationship with their best friend makes them gay. I don't think that's much if any of a problem though. I'm sure at a certain age they will realise themselves who they are attracted to, you can't "turn someone gay". There are no bad consequences, and no long term consequences, no medication/surgery. Kids want "to marry" lots of people/things who they love. My niece once said she wanted to marry me, lol.

@DuMondeB Wow. I feel sad for your step daughter and others who have been told that. Lucky she has you to be there for her. As we know, there are lots of reasons girls are uncomfortable with their bodies when developing. It was so wrong for the school counsellor to suggest transgender as a reason to her and to encourage her to look it up online, and on YouTube ! How irresponsible. Especially with all the nonsense there is online. What a way to damage her mental health, and introduce her to damaging online cult-like communities. Would they say that to someone with anorexia and self-harm? I'd hope not with all the very dark "pro-ana" and self-harm stuff online that encourage each other to stay unwell. If they had these concerns they should talk to parents/guardians anyway, not dump it on a child like that without their parents/guardians. But yeah, there are lots of girls uncomfortable with their bodies when going through puberty and developing. She is lucky to have you.

I saw a video going through all the books they use and snippets of lesson plans. - sorry, I don't think it actually goes through "all" the books they use. But some.

Would anybody like to add their thoughts to a review of RSE in Ireland? Closing date the 25th. They are going down the same route of pushing 'trans ideology' apparently.

A group called handsoffourkids is advocating against the new curriculum but their website is a bit 'hysterical' so I'm not sure I entirely trust the people behind it. Brings to mind pro-life campaigners a bit too much.

I am considering going into Secondary school teaching and am very curious to know what I would and wouldn't be able to say about Transgender issues in a professional capacity/setting to avoid being fired. Many TIA.

I work in a secondary school and tend to keep relatively quiet. luckily the biology books are still based firmly in reality which makes teacher that topic a little easier and I'm fairly knowledgable about confusion around chromosomes and intersex conditions so able to fall back on solid biological evidence if the conversation veers into that conversation. However we have a number of transgender pupils so do keep it respectful (and not just because I have to but because they do deserve respect and have no wish to make a pupil feel uncomfortable in my class).

I had a thread used recently about upcoming Barbados training for teaching staff in my establishment....

It was outrageous. Gender bread person, cis, how you should be subject to disciplinary for misgendering, how puberty blockers are a harmless and helpfully pause, lots of emotive sharing about homophobic abuse, conflating sex and gender throughout. Questions discouraged. Shocking.

rodgmum · 11/01/2020 21:56

Mooncupdotcom My 14 year old DD’s YH (and head of the school’s LGBT club) formally transitioned her at school behind our backs, although he did tell her 17 year old brother. When we found out and complained, he told us we had no say. All on the back of LGBT Youth Scotland guidance which is similar to what you describe.

We made a formal complaint to the Head which was upheld. DD’s therapist thinks the best shot DD has at desisting is by not having the adults around her affirm her desire to be seen as a boy, and there are many medical professionals who would support this view. IMO, schools should work with parents and not just listen to lobby groups who have little experience in child development- affirmation is an experiment with no long term research behind it.

There’s hopefully going to be an upcoming court case in Oxfordshire that in part, looks at this (see @SafeSchools_UK on Twitter)

airedailleurs · 13/01/2020 21:55

@Mooncupdotcom right and if it turns out that I would need to go along with that kind of dangerous garbage I would not join the teaching profession so thanks for the heads-up!

OhHolyJesus · 13/01/2020 22:00

@mooncupdotcom quick question on the training - is it Barnardos or Barbados? Not taking the p*ss a serious question - I've seen the primary school guidance from Barnardos (awful) and there are loads of the Mermaids type "training" around so wondered if it was a new one I haven't heard of.

Did you get to ask any questions? Did anyone else seem uncomfortable with the approach?

Mooncupdotcom · 13/01/2020 22:40

@OhHolyJesus
Sorry that’s a typo! Yes, Barnardo’s. I asked lots of questions and also followed up by sharing some links to GC groups. They used the abrightin Toolkit and their own Positive Identities resources from their website. Several colleagues have asked questions and said it’s made them think, especially the sport and accommodation aspect, so that’s encouraging.

Mooncupdotcom · 13/01/2020 22:41

@airedailleurs Don’t let that put you off teaching! I truly believe we need strong, critical thinking women in teaching more that ever.

airedailleurs · 14/01/2020 09:36

I dare say that's the case @Mooncupdotcom but what I want to avoid is giving up other career opportunities in favour of teaching and then finding my job is at risk if I refuse to compromise my integrity on this particular issue.
