does everybody hate the term womxn? Or is it just me?

The Guardian usually provides me with a shot of instant rage, and, reliable as ever, the front page of the review (my dh's) had the words 'what a time to be a black, british, womxn writer'.
Does anyone else feel , like, a big 'fuck off' when they read that?

everybody hates it except a few woke twats

Dontgobacktorockville · 19/10/2019 09:41

It's an awful word.

JoyceJeffries · 19/10/2019 09:52

It’s dreadful.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/10/2019 09:55

'I thought ‘womxn’ was introduced by the 2nd wave feminism movement as a symbolic way to remove the word ‘man’ / ‘men’ when describing females. It’s not a new invention.'

AFAIK that was womyn. Womxn is new.

MockersthefeMANist · 19/10/2019 09:55

It's either a Xhosa click, or it's missing a vowel.

Womoxn, an anti-inflammatory, available on prescription.

'I thought ‘womxn’ was introduced by the 2nd wave feminism movement as a symbolic way to remove the word ‘man’ / ‘men’ when describing females. It’s not a new invention.'

I thought that was erm not sure how to spell it when not looking. Wombyn or wimmin. Wims! I used to be on a lot of fb groups with serious 2nd wave feminists.

I thought womxn was a recent think to include transwomen.

Fraggling · 19/10/2019 09:58

Wiki

'The term Womxn is an alternative term for the English language word women which has been regularly in use since 2015 to explicitly include transgender women and women of color. It has been used in a similar manner as womyn and wimmin, as a rejection of the folk etymology of 'woman' allegedly being 'of man'.'

Why do people misattribute so many things to 2nd wave feminists?

Fraggling · 19/10/2019 09:58

Ha at my spelling wombyn never mind

Fraggling · 19/10/2019 10:00

'It’s not a new invention'

So, yes it is.

What do you make of that, poster who posted inaccurate things in a definite manner?

WrathofSIxFootSIxElfKlop · 19/10/2019 10:07

Womxn = Rhymes with testicles.

WrathofSIxFootSIxElfKlop · 19/10/2019 10:08

Say what you see.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/10/2019 10:09

I can't quite fathom the level of clueless, unconscious racism it would take to blithely assert that the word woman doesn't include women who're not white so we need a new word to include them.

The best curse I can think of to aim at people like that is "I wish you that one day you attain self awareness".

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/10/2019 10:09

Ugh, need more coffee.

GetbusywiththeFizzee · 19/10/2019 10:10

Then not only is The Grauniad devoid of critical thinking , it’s also a deeply racist rag.

Womxn to describe women of colour? Which colour is that- a faint tan, women with rosacea? Or is it that real women are only blue eyed and blonde haired so the rest of us need a new definition; the ‘let’s pretend we’re women’ group.
Tossers.

Jayaywhynot · 19/10/2019 10:13

That's a new one on me but I'll join you, I hate it too. Why cant they just leave us woman alone?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/10/2019 10:13

If I suggested to my MIL that we needed a new word to indicate that she's part of the group "women" because obviously she wouldn't be otherwise, being Asian and all, I think she might hit me. And with good reason.

WrathofSIxFootSIxElfKlop · 19/10/2019 10:18

Is the newspaper trying to drive a wedge between groups of women of different ethnic backgrounds?
You know how groups of different ethnic background women are always fighting.

Not.

Karabair · 19/10/2019 10:19

It's awful. Another male-led attempt to erase women.

The hijacking of black women's struggles in particular to justify this vandalism if the word "woman" is dreadful.

GetbusywiththeFizzee · 19/10/2019 10:25

Virtue signalling- no substance or depth; they are regurgitating shit in the hope of selling print to racist wokes, patting themselves on their backs for their ‘right on’ inclusiveness.
Inclusiveness that tells women they are not women unless they are white ( and don’t get me started on lumping us in with males with gender dysphoria).

flowery · 19/10/2019 10:27

I’ve literally never come across the term at all. I can see the argument for it if one were talking collectively about women and trans women. A term to include both, if for whatever reason one needed to do so. Although the phrase “women and transwomen” isn’t challenging to use, so I’m not sure why it would be necessary to invent a new word.

But one person can’t be a womxn, because one person can only be a woman, a transwoman (or a man, transman, or whatever else. If you’re talking about a specific person, and their sex or gender identity are somehow relevant, just be accurate about that particular individual.

And since when were black women not women? That’s a new one on me.

Floisme · 19/10/2019 10:28

I always thought 'womyn' was created by Deidre Spart for Private Eye.

Is this in the printed Guardian?

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 19/10/2019 10:29

Me too. And where are the mxn? Nowhere to be seen - men get the dignity of being called men.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 19/10/2019 10:30

AFAIK that was womyn. Womxn is new

Yep

It was womyn...which I always thought was stupid, but over the last year or so i have used it on occasion Grin

Fraggling · 19/10/2019 10:30

It's interesting that the word woman is deemed awful and needing to be changed to something no one knows or can pronounce

While other words and things that lots of women have said for years are grim are left alone eg laydeeees, use of mrs miss as its v important to know if we are owned by father or husband etc etc

Fraggling · 19/10/2019 10:30

Not to mention all the insulting ones obv
