Hilary and Chelsea Clinton discuss trans issues

"The one thing she and her mother don’t appear to agree on entirely is the question of transgender self-identification. Their book features Danica Roem, the first trans woman elected to a US state legislature, and when I ask if someone with a beard and a penis can ever be a woman, Chelsea peers at me as if I’ve just asked if the sun rises in the east. “Ye-esss. Yes.” Hillary is looking uneasy. “

I wonder how those conversations go in private.

I wonder what Chelsea's reaction would be if her daughter showed athletic promise ?

"Chelsea is now fixing me with a furious stare. When I point this out, she laughs — “I’m a terrible actor” — and says quietly but emphatically: “I am thrilled by the NHS’s decision. Because how can you treat someone if you don’t recognise who they feel and know in their core they are? And I strongly support children being able to play on the sports teams that match their own gender identity. I think we need to be doing everything we can to support kids in being whoever they know themselves to be and discovering who they are.”

I turn back to Hillary, who is looking conflicted. “I think you’ve got to be sensitive to how difficult this is,” she says. “There are women who’d say [to a trans woman], ‘You know what, you’ve never had the kind of life experiences that I’ve had. So I respect who you are, but don’t tell me you’re the same as me.’ I hear that conversation all the time.”

She says the pair don’t argue about it, but I get the impression they don’t like to present anything less than a united front to the world."

Chelsea is friends with Charlotte Clymer. Says it all. She's a dool.

SunsetBeetch · 14/10/2019 07:57

*fool/tool. Definitely not cool.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 07:58

Chelsea and her kids won’t ever be in a situation of sharing a nhs ward, prison or reduce facilities with someone like - well we all know who (we read the papers).

She has had a privileged life. She can put her hand in her pocket and buy the healthcare and resources of her choice.

I thought she was supposed to be intelligent?

AncientLights · 14/10/2019 08:00

I had to stop reading at the bit where Chelsea pronounces herself 'thrilled' that the NHS puts TW on women's wards.

Could there be a clearer example of the privileged showing they have no understanding or concern for the less-privileged? And does Chelsea understand that this means women having strange men within a few feet of us when we are extremely vulnerable? Probably not.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 08:01

Does she even know what the NHS is? Ever set foot on a ward?

Beamur · 14/10/2019 08:04

I think Chelsea should actually spend some time on an NHS ward, or perhaps a mixed sex psychiatric unit and see how the women in those places feel about it.
The ignorance in the attitude that it's all right by me, therefore I can't see any problems with it infuriates me.

Whatisthisfuckery · 14/10/2019 08:06

Didn’t she go to Oxford? If so then I assume she does know what the NHS is. Whether she ever spent any time in an NHS hospital though I don’t know. Probably not for herself.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 08:08

She’s American (and daughter of ex president) I suppose if she needed to see a doctor or go into hospital here it would be private not the local nhs.

She is ignorant.

FannyCann · 14/10/2019 08:08

I've never been in an American hospital so my "knowledge" is drawn from TV shows but isn't it the case that most patient accommodation is in either single rooms or maybe a double or triple? These rooms I presume are going to arranged on "wards" whatever they call them over there. So I think she'd get quite a shock if she looked around an older NHS hospital with bays of ten or more.

nauticant · 14/10/2019 08:18

I have little doubt Chelsea Clinton is intelligent. Possibly keenly so.

It's just another case of a progressive knowing what they have to say while their brain is going "do not think critically about this. do not think critically about this. do not think critically about this."

I'm sure there were clergy during the Inquisition who thought "I don't much care what the line is supposed to be, I'm definitely going to be on-board".

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 08:20

You can be intelligent but still ignorant! Why not keep her mouth out? Say it don’t really know the UK situation? Typical ‘I know better’ attitude.

Whatisthisfuckery · 14/10/2019 08:26

There will be some women who look back on their public utterances with shame, especially ones who have political ambition. The media never forget, so talking your way out of a hole like insisting women have penises and women should have no privacy from said men could end up being rather difficult. I hope so, or at least I hope the climate becomes so.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 08:31

Well she is American. So who knows? Attitudes are different.

TimeLady · 14/10/2019 08:35

Oh, Hillary, all that money on an expensive education was clearly wasted.

I just hope Chelsea's own daughter calls her out in the future for sacrificing women and girls' rights on the altar of political ambition. What a 'deplorable' family.

OvaHere · 14/10/2019 08:40

This is a woman who grew up with Secret Service bodyguards, she may still have them for all I know. She will never find herself on a publicly funded, overcrowded, understaffed hospital ward with strange men. Or in any other situation where she is very vulnerable. She's obviously intelligent in an academic sense but her attitude is very 'let them eat cake'.

RoyalCorgi · 14/10/2019 08:44

On Baroness Nicholson's Twitter thread about this issue last week, a woman mentioned that she'd been raped at the age of 17 on a mixed-sex mental health ward. I wonder what Chelsea Clinton would say to her. Perhaps like Ruth Hunt she thinks that rapists are gonna rape.

OvaHere · 14/10/2019 08:46

Hillary I imagine has enough experience to know how entrenched positions on social issues can come back to bite you further down the line especially if there is a public record attached to them. Chelsea probably has future political ambitions and by that time the landscape and what is considered good optics may have shifted somewhat. She would be wise to take note of her mother's more diplomatic, non committal response.

WrathofSIxFootSIxElfKlop · 14/10/2019 08:47

Pick me, pick me,
pleease pick me behaviour.

The menz must be delighted at the continuing compliance of women, especially younger women.

Just another example of their blind capitulation.
Must be such a breeze being a man.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 09:13

She has Several kids? Daughters I presume?
Way to go mom. When her mum was banging on the glass ceiling and fighting for her place in a ‘male’ profession?

TottieandMarchpane · 14/10/2019 09:17

Chelsea probably has future political ambitions and by that time the landscape and what is considered good optics may have shifted somewhat.

I think I read a nib that her possible selection as candidate somewhere is in the offing.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 14/10/2019 09:25

Chelsea Clinton demonstrates yet again that trans ideology is the most classist movement going.

Chelsea is one of the wealthiest, most pampered and privileged women, nay people, anywhere on Earth. She will never be sick and vulnerable next to random strangers, she will always have a private room so she doesn't have to worry that the random stranger will be a man.

Either she is too dim to look beyond her own, incredibly pampered upbringing, or she is so nasty that she is knowingly and willingly throwing poorer, more vulnerable women and children under a bus.

Either way she is a embarrassment to herself.
