Mumsnet will always stand in solidarity with minority communities. We don’t tolerate transphobic comments and will delete any when they are flagged to us. But we do also believe strongly in free speech. 1/3

The discussion of gender self-id and what that might mean for very hard-won women’s rights, as well as the rapidly growing number of children exploring gender identity issues, is contentious. 2/3

We know some people would like us to simply censor this entire debate but a similar number think we censor too much. We’re committed to allowing respectful discussion of an issue that is of particular interest to parents. 3/3

The usual suspects pile on, but I think the ratios look very good.

so we're well-used to putting purpose before profit

Yep. MN walkin’ the walk and not just talkin’ the talk. Respect.

TheBullshitGoesOn · 12/10/2019 19:34

Another one says thanks to MNHQ.

BeanieSue · 12/10/2019 19:42

Thank you MNHQ from a just joined long time lurker.

SlowasaSnail · 12/10/2019 19:42

Thank you @MNHQ Flowersw

FWR and it’s excellent posters have given me the bravery to talk about this is real life. Even my dear old mum is very cross about women’s sports after we had a chat whilst watching the athletics last week.

7Worfs · 12/10/2019 19:46

De-lurking just to say thank you to MNHQ and the many active, smart and eloquent posters on FWR.

I’m not much of a feminist, but this enormous threat to women and especially children is keeping me awake at night, and it’s absolutely the hill I’m prepared to die on.

HandsOffMyRights · 12/10/2019 19:46

Welcome Beanie
I'm really heartened that this is reaching so many women and encouraging us to speak out and bless Slowasasnail's mother too!

zebrasdontwearbras · 12/10/2019 19:48

Everyone I've ever spoken to irl about any of these issues - transwomen in sport, medicalisation of young kids, male bodied transwomen in women's wards, toilets etc - all agree with the women on FWR.

The women of Mumsnet have called this one right - Upfields have called it wrong.

Anyway, if anyone from Upfields is reading this thread - stop using palm oil.

RumDo · 12/10/2019 19:49

Thank you from me, too.

ALittleBitofVitriol · 12/10/2019 20:11

Well done MNHQ! That second reply was all class 👍

This place is really unique, there is nowhere like it on the internet. You amazingly intelligent and irreverent women keep me coming back. What angers '''''people''''" more than women talking, is women being smart(er than them) and taking the piss. Speshly mummies. We're supposed to be vacuous, humourless madonnas.

StrangeLookingParasite · 12/10/2019 20:14

Thanks from me as well.

Re cyclepath: there wouldn''t be threads about them if they didn't make themselves publicly controversial on a social media platform.

Make a giant screaming supertwat of themselves, regardless of identity.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 12/10/2019 20:16

we're well-used to putting purpose before profit

Star

Brilliant.

MrsKCastle · 12/10/2019 20:24

Aaargh, based on this thread I returned to Twitter to thank MNHQ and got pulled into responding to various TRAs. I really need to learn a bit more self-restraint. I have been off of Twitter for several months because it was so bad for my mental health, so I will have to try hard it to get sucked back in.

I have to say though, I think the tide really is turning now. The Times are doing an excellent job of publicising the issues with the trans agenda, and I think more members of the public are becoming aware of the implications of self-id.

StroppyWoman · 12/10/2019 20:34

If it hadn’t been for TRA shouting abuse towards Mumsnet on Twitter I’d not have discovered you last year - my kids are nearly grown and I’d not used parenting boards in 10 years.
I thank you for your staunch support of women and feminists. You’re brilliant
(And I do buy Flora but I’m stopping now, and emailing them why)

Becles · 12/10/2019 20:37

Well done MNHQ. Thank you

MrsSteveMcDonald · 12/10/2019 20:45

Now I've got past the TTC stage it's only really FWR and the threads on the soaps I watch that are keeping me here. Had a really fab experience today talking to an employment lawyer who turned out to also be GC and says that the equality act is on the side of GC people, not TRAs.

Anyone else surprised that the certain cycling someone hadn't blocked MN on twitter?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 12/10/2019 20:57

It's telling that it's a site mostly used by women that is the focus of so much TRA rage. It's pure misogyny

yup. This isn't the first time MNHQ have had shit because misogynists get jumpy when women talk to each other

another thank you from me

Voice0fReason · 12/10/2019 21:14

Thank you MNHQ, for having the backbone and integrity to stand up for what you believe.

justasking111 · 12/10/2019 21:21

Time after time I see women helped here with advice, links etc., so on the whole MN is a force for good.

Just had a peek at twitter. Gracious some unhinged posts on there.

Datun · 12/10/2019 21:39

@unwashedanddazed and all the other lurkers. Thank you. Please, continue to delurk.

LoveGrowsWhere · 12/10/2019 23:07

Thank you MNHQ.

The KKR reputation is based on being financially astute. They wanted to work with MN because recognised demographic & scale made a good fit. Now they're offensive in generalised swipe at all MN users. Not very intelligent because their products are not high quality or niche enough for small scale to be profitable.

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 12/10/2019 23:07

Delurking, although I have nothing constructive to add, other than my support for MNHQ and FWR.

I think it's a brave stance for MNHQ to take. Which infuriates me, as bravery shouldn't come into it. Women should be free to discuss their sex based rights and anything else that concerns them as a sex class, without being subjected to vile slurs and abuse, without facing threats of violence, without fear of being doxxed or it's repercussions. It's 2019, yet it appears that it's acceptable for the woke to silence, erode and censor us.

I shan't apologise for my ineloquent ramblings.

Well quite, Einstein. Women should be able to talk about their sex based rights, which are current law, without some fucking margarine manufacturer telling them off.

It's utterly ludicrous.

Forthispostonly · 12/10/2019 23:24

Thank you MNHQ
returns to lurking and learning

JanesKettle · 12/10/2019 23:32

Thank you MNHQ, from the mother of a trans-identifying son.

It was only the support I received on FWR that enabled me to reach out for professional support for myself as a mother, to enable me to better parent my child as he goes through a very difficult time.

Hard to see any transphobia in that!
