Upfield (manufacturers of Flora marg, and Proactiv) don't want Mumsnet to buy their products any more

They've made the decision to 'no longer work with Mumsnet' because they want to 'treat everyone equally' because of their 'values'.

By this I'm sure they mean any woman who uses this site should definitely NOT buy their products. That would be an unpleasant association between mumsnet and their values that would be too much to bear.

Here is a helpful list of their products that they don't want in any way associated with Mumsnet:

Country rock
Flora
Rama
BlueBand
Lätta
Flora Proactiv
Becel
I can't believe it's not butter

Please don't sully their brands with any association from you, you horrid mumsnetters. Your money is tainted with unacceptable values.

and now I never... - I can't type for toffee (unbranded).

TiredofthisBS · 12/10/2019 10:09

@Jantolee apparently Pure is the way to go and it doesn't decimate Orang-utans either.

Jantolee · 12/10/2019 10:15

@TiredofthisBS - thank you. I actually prefer butter/Lurpak as I am veggie rather than vegan. I will give Pure a go though as I would actually like to be vegan - it's only my poor self control that is preventing it.

I'm only just waking up to what is going on in the current oppression of women and reading loads, so I'm just catching up. It is so depressing, but I'm glad to have found this community

FadingStar · 12/10/2019 10:27

Wankpot is fantastic!😂😂 I cant boycott either as I never bought Flora. The taste and texture made me sick, so much so that I never accept sandwiches in other people's homes, such as at a wake, in case there is Flora in them.🤮 But if I was made of sterner stuff I would absolutely be boycotting. This move is madness and I hate the gleefulness of Upfield. Well, it won't last long!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/10/2019 10:29

It now appears to be acceptable to voice misogynistic thoughts and violence against women. Ditto racism and abusive ideas and threats.

Why is this? Even when I was a student a man wouldn’t dare spout sexist crap in the union without getting their arse handed back to them (by men and women). Men would neck you up in theses cases. What happened? Who is pulling the strings?

FadingStar · 12/10/2019 10:31

I'd pay too. I've been on Mumsnet for years thanks to FWR, with only one period of deactivation after Jeffrey. It's a massive part of my life and this board has had a tremendous impact on me and my life.

KettlePolly · 12/10/2019 10:32

Margarine is yucky anyway. It's only reminded me how bland Flora is! Haven't bought it in years either.

FadingStar · 12/10/2019 10:33

I can't help but think the pornification of everything has had a huge impact on the dehumanisation of women.

IncrediblySadToo · 12/10/2019 10:39

Cheeky bastards.

But I don’t buy their shitty products anyway

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/10/2019 10:39

Hmmm just seen this... not sure if it’s accurate but will have a look.

Complaint sent in my own name.... Getting braver!

AngelaRobe · 12/10/2019 10:46

Stork

stucknoue · 12/10/2019 10:48

Don't buy nasty artificial products anyway ... butter is king

AngelaRobe · 12/10/2019 10:49

They make Stork too.

UpfieldHatesWomen · 12/10/2019 10:51

I don't buy their products anyway, but this attempt at silencing women who wish to discuss their sex based rights by Upfield has prompted me to sign up to Mumsnet instead. Own goal.

Somerville · 12/10/2019 10:58

Welcome to MN. Grin

LangCleg · 12/10/2019 11:00

Fekko - Ethical Consumer is quite good because you can judge brands on your own personal priorities - which might be, say, animal cruelty, environment, exploitation of workers, etc.

SingingLily · 12/10/2019 11:08

Have a picture to reflect the UNmarginalised status of these utter wankpots.

Of all those, I can only boycott two - Aviva and Lloyds - and that's easy enough.

Not sure what I can do about GCHQ though Confused

Cismyfatarse1 · 12/10/2019 11:08

I was involved in the Mumsnet test of Flora a few months ago. It was OK and we used it and I told a few people at work about it. A couple of vegans / vegetarians switched. We are butter people and did not change. Actually it was pretty disgusting!

However, I have now spoken to 4 colleagues who are going to follow some of the advice on this thread and find alternatives.

Go woke. Go broke.

RandomlyChosenName · 12/10/2019 11:12

I was also involved in the flora MN test a few months ago.

I support MN and free speech. Bye bye flora.

Cismyfatarse1 · 12/10/2019 11:21

Someone on Twitter is calling Flora "Man Spread" which has made my day.

HandsOffMyRights · 12/10/2019 11:27

Oh that's a great one, Cismyfatarse
😂

@HumberElla

I'm not sure, but I think it might be something to do with atomising existing social structures in order to re-collectivise. This is why I think both the Left and the Right have got a horse in the race.

A few years ago there were some documentaries (on the BBC of all places!) by Adam Curtiss that were really good. In one, called The Century of the Self, he documented how Freud's nephew went to America to work with business in order to find out how to manipulate the mass psyche.

I think the essence of what is happening now is to use our individualistic tendencies to do whatever we want to break us all apart and then use our natural instincts towards collectivisation to control how new groupings arise.

First thing is to smash existing collective structures (Queer theory etc) and then re-collectivise around controlled themes. Individuals who have been up-rooted from structures that have taken thousands of years to develop will be vulnerable to being 'gathered' into new groups.

The internet has been a mass experiment in breaking up old mass currents - I don't know if you're old enough to remember when 20 million or so of us would gather around the TV set to watch Porridge etc? But now even this level of group behaviour has been destroyed because of new media. So 'influencers' on Youtube can amass a whole army of followers. The internet has given us more data about how to control massed human behaviour than Freud could ever have dreamt of.

So the Right and the Left are now both exploiting inherent weaknesses in liberalism in order to fight over the human collective, like dogs fighting over a bone.

I think this is why modern corporate and financial interests are willing to sacrifice a few tubs of margarine: they are playing for much bigger stakes.

LangCleg not enough eye rolls for Tesco ‘s presence on the Trans Ally list.

How proud this must make subscribers and those who care about ethical values Grin
