Upfield (manufacturers of Flora marg, and Proactiv) don't want Mumsnet to buy their products any more

They've made the decision to 'no longer work with Mumsnet' because they want to 'treat everyone equally' because of their 'values'.

By this I'm sure they mean any woman who uses this site should definitely NOT buy their products. That would be an unpleasant association between mumsnet and their values that would be too much to bear.

Here is a helpful list of their products that they don't want in any way associated with Mumsnet:

Country rock
Flora
Rama
BlueBand
Lätta
Flora Proactiv
Becel
I can't believe it's not butter

Please don't sully their brands with any association from you, you horrid mumsnetters. Your money is tainted with unacceptable values.

Casting my mind back to a certain court case, a good size of reality combined with ground being stood has been... problematic for mimmymum in the past.

ExpletiveDelighted · 12/10/2019 09:07

I'd pay for FWR too, so important. I might not post much, but I read and learn a lot.

Datun · 12/10/2019 09:09

Just in case mumsnet were feeling scared about losing ad £££, they could always consider a subscription model. I would definitely pay a couple of quid a month to be able to read the FWR board.

I was just coming on to say that.

Targeting advertisers will not get this site shut down. In fact, given the number of women who use it, they'd probably make more money using a subscription model.

HumberElla · 12/10/2019 09:10

@GreasyFryUp

Strava sent a message to subscribers asking them to support a cyclist who they said was being discriminated against. This cyclist is a born male who cycles in women’s races. This cyclist had just tweeted a gif showing a skeleton dancing on a grave in response to a young feminist who tragically died of a brain tumour that week. This cyclist also thinks women who have concerns or questions about males competing in female sports events should “Die in a Grease Fire.”

I really don't think it is about profit. Unless the genderist lobby is subsidising what they'll lose from us?

MangoSplit · 12/10/2019 09:13

I also added a specific message to my complaint about not using my data for anything other than processing my complaint.

HumberElla · 12/10/2019 09:22

@clitherow I’m fascinated by this. Although I’m not sure I understand it fully. How big industry and global corporations benefit from social change and, ultimately how they are increasingly driving social change to reap the rewards is scary.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/10/2019 09:23

I’d like to know who made the call. You just don’t made business decisions on the basis of a complaint by someone. Especially without closely looking at them and their background too.

If you didn’t you would agree with every person out there - we used to get rambling ‘letters’ left at an office I worked out - sometimes written on the back of a3 posters. Usually complaints and conspiracy theories.

I’ve worked in big companies long enough - nope you don’t just jump without checking carefully and speaking to your lawyers.

GreasyFryUp · 12/10/2019 09:24

@HumberElla oh yes, "her". I'm enjoying this thread, what with the baking and other top tips. Marmite, who knew? Me now.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 12/10/2019 09:24

I'm literally fuming. Complained everywhere in my real name too. Fuck it.

I'm going to tell people to boycott their brands.

What really creeps me out was the list of TRAs lining up to congratulate them. If the brand new the background and behaviour of some of those people they'd be horrified I'm sure.

There's nothing like the support of people who've bullied and smeared their shallow little lives away.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 12/10/2019 09:26

I would pay to protect these boards

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 12/10/2019 09:27

I also would like to know who made the call. Has this been announced anywhere other than on Twitter?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 12/10/2019 09:28

If the brand new the background and behaviour of some of those people they'd be horrified I'm sure.

They wouldn't be horrified, they don't care.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/10/2019 09:32

Has anyone got a lot of businesses who don’t want women’s money? I tried to google it but I can’t seem to get proper search results these days (paranoid, me?).

teawamutu · 12/10/2019 09:33

Mailed. Pointed out their policy on treating everyone equally or they won't work with them tied in beautifully with my own policy - as the person making the shopping decisions for a household - of never funding companies that supported misogyny or the bullying of women.

So no money changing hands either way and ain't we both content.

SandyDrawsBadly · 12/10/2019 09:42

I’m just sending a note to the manufacturer that they’re taking advice from a woman who took a transsexual to court for transphobia.

Not exactly a paragon of virtue.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/10/2019 09:43

I wonder when their AGM is...

TemporaryPermanent · 12/10/2019 09:48

MN had a subscription model way back... it's a different world but it didn't work then and it probably wouldnt work now.

Jantolee · 12/10/2019 09:49

I recently changed to Flora buttery from Lurpak because my kids have become vegan (they are adults) and talked me into it. I will be talking them out of Flora now and boycotting it myself. I will also message Upfield with my complaint. I'd say that we have, as a family, been supportive of trans rights, but I'm finding it difficult to deal with all the hate directed towards women, particularly feminists/lesbians. I wasn't aware that it was going on as I don't really use Twitter much and it rarely makes the news.
I'm new to MN and would appreciate it if someone could point me in the direction of a list of products that I should boycott in relation to this issue that is easy to access. Is there a pinned post or something?

LangCleg · 12/10/2019 09:51

**

It. Will. Never. Happen.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/10/2019 09:53

I want a list too. I like to be know where my money is going to - and what they companies policies are. I used to boycot on the basis of fair trade, policies and local regime...

LangCleg · 12/10/2019 09:55

Are you fairly new to MN LangCleg?

Awww. Don't be mean! If you hide FWR, you won't know me because I really only have time for one board so rarely post elsewhere on the site.

But on the other thread - it always makes me laugh when the words bile or vitriol are used because it's just the Woke Script Required Terms so you know the person using them has never read an FWR thread - at least in any good faith - in their lives.

MsTSwift · 12/10/2019 09:56

Thanks for heads up will be avoiding those brands going forward and I did buy them. Not any more though.
Great that a company is putting its values however misguided before profit. That’s very sweet of them that they are prepared to lose their customers over this. Oops.

Floisme · 12/10/2019 10:04

Well this should be a hell of a lot easier than giving up kit Kats.

I'd pay a subcription too, even though I mostly only use this board and Style & Beauty.

LangCleg · 12/10/2019 10:04

My problem with all this business boycotting stuff is that I went on an ethical shopping bash about a decade ago and divested myself of most multinational corporate brands. I got into the habit and it's not been broken since. Ad I never get to heroically boycott the corporate elite as it goes Woke. Gah!

Anyway. No point getting annoyed. Global capitalism is rapacious, unprincipled, interested only in the PR of fake virtue signalling.

It's not annoying. It's utterly hilarious that the Woke project is supported by every establishment force there is. Including the planet-destroying, worker-abusing, democracy-subverting forces of global capital. Most oppressed my fat arse.

Have a picture to reflect the UNmarginalised status of these utter wankpots.
