Upfield (manufacturers of Flora marg, and Proactiv) don't want Mumsnet to buy their products any more

They've made the decision to 'no longer work with Mumsnet' because they want to 'treat everyone equally' because of their 'values'.

By this I'm sure they mean any woman who uses this site should definitely NOT buy their products. That would be an unpleasant association between mumsnet and their values that would be too much to bear.

Here is a helpful list of their products that they don't want in any way associated with Mumsnet:

Country rock
Flora
Rama
BlueBand
Lätta
Flora Proactiv
Becel
I can't believe it's not butter

Please don't sully their brands with any association from you, you horrid mumsnetters. Your money is tainted with unacceptable values.

Transitioning maintains the social hierarchy while redefining homophobia and misogyny as progressive.

Is anyone surprised that a hedge fund company's values include homophobia and misogyny?

stumbledin · 12/10/2019 00:24

Not sure if this has been already posted as haven't had time to read all posts in this thread.

On the twitter feed it seems that they are mainly getting a positive response twitter.com/upfieldglobal/status/1182644210803101698 - but then any sane feminist have left twitter for spinster or real life!

So just in case Upfield might be thinking they have done the right thing, this is the link to their contact form on their website upfield.com/contact/ to let them know that IRL women (who are probably doing the shopping - sorry but quite likely to still be true) aren't going to want the products of a company that doesn't support women's rights and the right of women to argue for their rights.

Tweets (or twats as far as I am concerned) are the unrepresentative voice of MRAs.

They dont seem to have a facebook page although there is one for Flora www.facebook.com/pg/FloraFamily/posts/?ref=page_internal

2) Why do none of the brands I buy ever go WokeBroke so I can boycott? I want to boycott!

.......^

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 12/10/2019 00:28

What would one substitute for Weetabix in that scenario? We might end up with a dish that's even less appealing.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 12/10/2019 00:29

Dear, oh dear. Ten million unique users per month and Upfield Marketing don’t want them? ‘Does Gerald Ratner mean nothing to them? Did he die in vain?’

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 12/10/2019 00:32

Maybe they think Mimmymum will buy enough to make up for the potential loss of business, since apparently she actually likes the flavor? Still boggling a bit at that tbh, I assumed anyone choosing the buy that stuff was doing so because of either convenience or veganism. It never occurred to me that anyone would actually prefer the taste of greasy chemicals.

(And also the screams of dead orangutans, let's not forget that palm oil is bad for reasons other than taste too.)

terryleather · 12/10/2019 00:33

What would one substitute for Weetabix in that scenario?

Possibly Marmite...this is Lang after all.

TemporaryPermanent · 12/10/2019 01:15

Still feeling that mimmymum is pointing out to us that she can pick off MN's advertisers one by one and close the site.

If you're the sort of person who will burn down the Scout Hut because you disagree with Scouts making a vow to obey the Queen, you're that sort of person I guess.

PerspicaciaTick · 12/10/2019 01:25

Upfield... putting the mmmm in misogyny.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 12/10/2019 01:29

If you're the sort of person who will burn down the Scout Hut because you disagree with Scouts making a vow to obey the Queen, you're that sort of person I guess.

Which is why we should push back and hard. Bluntly, there are more of us than there are of them and we represent a far bigger purchasing block.

NotBadConsidering · 12/10/2019 02:20

What I'd like to know is when they say they’ve “investigated” and come to the conclusion that Mumsnet is not consistent with their values, what does that mean? Helen Islan tweeted, they “investigated” and they came to this conclusion? What bullshit. It was either the quickest most bullshit google search ever with no thought, delving deeper or even spending time on Mumsnet, and coming to this conclusion with barely a thought, or it has all been orchestrated. There’s no way an “investigation” could be that quick and reach a conclusion, unless the person investigating just saw the words “Mumsnet transphobia” often enough on page 1 to reach a conclusion.

Jeez, even Colleen Rooney spent months on her investigation. Hmm

NotTerfNorCis · 12/10/2019 07:04

I always bought Flora. It was the default since I was a child. Now I'm going to branch out. Trying Lurpak. Exciting! Grin

earlydoors42 · 12/10/2019 07:13

I have contacted them via the website. I always use Stork in my baking - I didn't know about the palm oil. Will find an alternative!

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/10/2019 07:14
  1. General public would probably read the AIBU.

2 there was a discussion around trans men there which people were starting to explain some key issues to do with feminism.

  1. Posters were saying they agree with flora and there was clear debate challenging those views as they clearly had no idea what is actually discussed On FWR.
  1. Multiple posters were defending Mn.

Silly decision.

FannyCann · 12/10/2019 07:17

I'm a butter freak but my husband is dairy free and uses Pure. It's very good for baking.

ZIGGY7 · 12/10/2019 07:45

Will boycott. Incredibly bad PR to annoy all those polls which usually support the GC view by 90ish percent on, say, toilets exclusively for sex not gender. Clearly Flora is not inclusive of actual women, so I will become a FERF.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 12/10/2019 07:51

Like PP said earlier, easiest boycott ever tbh. Not sure how well refusing to advertise to the people who make the majority of food purchases and either baffling or annoying a bunch of others in the process is going to work out for them.

RuffleCrow · 12/10/2019 07:53

Ah that's fine. Happy to boycott Flora and the rest. Plenty of alternatives.

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/10/2019 08:00

What's hilarious is that it's quite hard to show extra support for flora.

There's only so much grease you need.

Plus, orangutans.

ExpletiveDelighted · 12/10/2019 08:05

Easy boycott for me too, I rarely use marge but when I do its Pure.

Maybe it's a protest against the eeevil butter buying mafia (ie. a site full of women who love food and care about the health of their children).

HandsOffMyRights · 12/10/2019 08:11

I've complained via the website.

I'll be buying Pure from now on and if it wasn't for Upfield shooting itself in the foot then I'd never have known about Pure.

MangoSplit · 12/10/2019 08:15

Just reposting the contact details in case anyone wants to contact Upfield about this. I've sent a message this morning.
