Upfield (manufacturers of Flora marg, and Proactiv) don't want Mumsnet to buy their products any more

They've made the decision to 'no longer work with Mumsnet' because they want to 'treat everyone equally' because of their 'values'.

By this I'm sure they mean any woman who uses this site should definitely NOT buy their products. That would be an unpleasant association between mumsnet and their values that would be too much to bear.

Here is a helpful list of their products that they don't want in any way associated with Mumsnet:

Country rock
Flora
Rama
BlueBand
Lätta
Flora Proactiv
Becel
I can't believe it's not butter

Please don't sully their brands with any association from you, you horrid mumsnetters. Your money is tainted with unacceptable values.

The cynic in me wonders if minnymum just targets the companies whose collaboration with Mumsnet is coming to an end and then tries to spin the natural end of a contract as a great win for their campaigning.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 11/10/2019 20:48

Greasy crap that I can live without.

Gone2far · 11/10/2019 20:51

I'm very sorry if someone has already done this, but I loved this tweet from Titania McGrath

For those complaining about
@Flora’s decision to cease their association with Mumsnet, I’d like to remind you of the company’s mission statement:

  1. Make margarine.
  2. Sell margarine.
  3. Oppose trans-exclusionary radical feminists.

This has to be my favourite twitter quote of the day. Thank you Glosswitch Grin twitter.com/glosswitch/status/1182722773308919811

"Well what is Mummy there for if not "spreading love"? For the eternal teenage boy finding out she does politics is worse than discovering she shags Daddy."

lottiegarbanzo · 11/10/2019 20:52

Vitalite and Pure are vegan and quite acceptable, for what they are - and have been for donkeys' years. Oil is better for vegan baking.

Lordamighty · 11/10/2019 20:55

Chemical shite self identifying as butter, I would happily boycott but never bought into their crap in the first place.

HandsOffMyRights · 11/10/2019 20:56

Will give Vitalite my money from now on and thanks for the tips lottie.

KatyCarrCan · 11/10/2019 20:56

ThatCurly the funny thing is that it's actually great publicity for MN. There are lots of positive comments from defending free speech to women tweeting about how MN helped them in different situations. Most people realise that attempts to silence MN are misogyny - no matter how it's dressed up.

silenceofthemams · 11/10/2019 20:57

Yes, do leave us to lick each others a*holes.

It'll still taste better than Flora. 🤣🤣🤣

And this will "spread" further than just the UK ..I've already shared to several GC people and groups to pass the word in Germany and Switzerland, so that's Rama, Becel and Latte too.

Perhaps Peachyogurt needs to pas this info on to the Netherlands GC women too? 😉

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 11/10/2019 21:04

Have we had "trans fats are fats" yet?

(I'm sure we have, but it's a long and fast-moving thread!)

Voice0fReason · 11/10/2019 21:08

I have no interest in supporting a company who have no interest in women and their ability to discuss issues that affect them.

UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool · 11/10/2019 21:09

For anyone looking for vegan spread or palm oil free, Naturli is both vegan and palm free. Is sold in Sainsbury’s (spreadable version) but they also do a block which you can get in health food shops. Is really nice and tastes like butter, not margarine. Here www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/top-rated-44/naturli-organic-vegan-spreadable-225g

It's such an own goal isn't it? Totally agree it's basically free PR for Mumsnet like you say.

Upfield presumably thought it sounded most woke to boycott Mumsnet because if the reasoning they declared was genuine then I doubt they'd continue advertising their brands in the Daily Mail - but somehow I don't think they'll be going after anyone but Mumsnet.

But they don't feel able to fight the Daily Mail etc because they perceive them as so powerful / untouchable.

What astounds me about this is that when it comes to their budgets a MN campaign will get such a greater ROI per pound than almost any other vehicle for them in the UK at the moment. Captive audience, target demographic, they trust and value the opinion of the site they've joined...

Upfield made a massive fuck up in order to sound "woke".

I dread to think what state everything will be in when the faux woke folks wake up (try saying that after a few sips of kool aid - oh wait, we don't drink that Wink)

Datun · 11/10/2019 21:19

It's not even about the number of mumsnetters who are still going to boycott the product. It's about the negative publicity. This journey only ever goes one way.

It's no coincidence that the number of people accessing the site via this board is going up and up and up.

The biggest recruitment tool to gender criticism is transactivism.

TheChampagneGalop · 11/10/2019 21:20

Hahaha. So many consumers are already aware that Upfield's fake butter products are unhealthy, they have been losing buyers and now they shoot themselves in the foot like this?!

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 11/10/2019 21:24

This is such an important step in the fight against childhood obesity. I am so thrilled that Mumset have dumped a company whose only mission was basically flogging calories.

testing987654321 · 11/10/2019 21:29

Thanks uncle Matthew, I will look out for that. Not vegan (yet) but small steps, have got 2 tubs of the plant based flora. Usually use vitalite.

AriadneO · 11/10/2019 21:31

Good on flora for celebrating inclusiveness and diversity!

Inebriati · 11/10/2019 21:35

So you're telling me if my eldest gets his head stuck in a saucepan again, I've got to use ''almond oil'' or some other middle class crap instead of marge? fucks sakes.

SorryAuntLydia · 11/10/2019 21:36

I think Upfield’s social media team is in breach of its own code of conduct. Maybe HR will have a little chat with them on Monday about European human rights laws, freedom of speech...although given their code names gender and not sex as a protected characteristic perhaps I am being overly hopeful

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 11/10/2019 21:37

Their products are seriously shit so can’t boycott something I don’t buy anyway BUT my Hello Fresh delivery keeps putting free packets of it in with my food so I will be telling them not to in future and actually will stop using Hello Fresh if they carry on, plenty of other meal suppliers out there.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/10/2019 21:37

Vitalite always made better tubs for arts and crafts stuff.

I have just looked up and seen a large Vitalite pot full of Hama Beads on the top of the cupboard (I think they need to go Hmm)

Dangerfloof · 11/10/2019 21:45

faux woke folks

And now everybody is muttering fork, stork, work. 😂
