Upfield (manufacturers of Flora marg, and Proactiv) don't want Mumsnet to buy their products any more

They've made the decision to 'no longer work with Mumsnet' because they want to 'treat everyone equally' because of their 'values'.

By this I'm sure they mean any woman who uses this site should definitely NOT buy their products. That would be an unpleasant association between mumsnet and their values that would be too much to bear.

Here is a helpful list of their products that they don't want in any way associated with Mumsnet:

Country rock
Flora
Rama
BlueBand
Lätta
Flora Proactiv
Becel
I can't believe it's not butter

Please don't sully their brands with any association from you, you horrid mumsnetters. Your money is tainted with unacceptable values.

So the mayonnaise in cakes thing - does that work with vegan mayonnaise?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 11/10/2019 18:15

I don’t know what you’re talking about

why do you think i was talking to you?

WomaninBoots · 11/10/2019 18:15

My deepest apologies for misgendering Monstrance.

Shock

I'd still like to see this supposed transphobia. That isn't just women having opinions about something that affects them and their rights.

JoyceJeffries · 11/10/2019 18:15

I’ve seen racism, sexism, homophobia, pornography, transphobia and pedophilia on twitter?

Why isn’t Flora boycotting that?

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/10/2019 18:16

No probs, my friend whizzes up olive oil and butter and then pours it into a tub and puts to set in the fridge (maybe freezer?) and it works sooooo well as a soft spread.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 11/10/2019 18:16

I'm always running out of butter. So this thread has been really useful.

I never run out of Flora 'cos that shit is rank.

littlbrowndog · 11/10/2019 18:16

But where is the evidence of transphobia?

MonstranceClock · 11/10/2019 18:18

@Datun I’m a bit past the age of doing homework thanks Grin

It’s a war between the two parties that will always go on. Women’s rights can’t trump trans rights and trans rights can’t trump women’s rights, however it’s pretty much impossible for them to co exist. It will be something that battles on forever unfortunately. I’m very lucky to have a few trans friends who are incredibly supportive of women’s rights. For every 1 violent thug who identifies as a woman to abuse the system and have access to women’s spaces, there are 10 trans women who just want to have a piss and go about their day. It’s important when discussing these issues, not to forget about those 10. They feel just as unsafe as we do around men.

littlbrowndog · 11/10/2019 18:19

Yeah Joyce I have seen awful things on twitter that are allowed to stay up

Why don’t thestopfunding hate go after twitter.
Same for upfield company.

Is it because we are women ?

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2019 18:19

DH used to buy Flora proactive ... I happened to mention about the palm oil so he's not going to get it any more. Fortunately we were tasting some fine extra Virgin olive oil at the time so the healthy alternative was under our noses.

Ereshkigal · 11/10/2019 18:20

Love this idea, and never would have thought to do it. I do my roast potatoes in a mixture of olive oil and butter, makes them a crispy as a vegetarian is going to get. Who needs shitty trans fat spreads?

GlitterToast · 11/10/2019 18:21

Is there a thread on the main boards? If not, I'll start one. All Mumsnetters should be aware that Flora no longer wants their custom. Smile

Ereshkigal · 11/10/2019 18:22

So your friends respect women enough not to access women's toilets? Refreshing.

@GlitterToast there's one on AIBU.

@MonstranceClock why target women as purveyors of hate, rather than the men who abuse transwomen, then?

marvellousnightforamooncup · 11/10/2019 18:25

I've just got into a Facebook spat about it on the Hope not Hate comments section. Hope not Hate disappointingly woke without giving women a second thought. Silly fuckers.

Artesia · 11/10/2019 18:25

I have submitted my query to Upfield, also on what basis they believe Mumsnet is not consistent with their values, which other websites they have cut ties with for similar reasons, and whether they still have a Twitter presence.

Wonder if I will get a reply??

Datun · 11/10/2019 18:27

For every 1 violent thug who identifies as a woman to abuse the system and have access to women’s spaces, there are 10 trans women who just want to have a piss and go about their day.

Forget where they piss. It's instantly solved with a third gender neutral option.

How about women's prisons, rape refugees, sports, all women shortlists? How about puberty blockers for children?

How many men, however they identify, should be on women's rugby teams? How many men, however they identify, should be on an all women shortlist? The entire concept of which, was designed to redress the staggering imbalance of female MPs to male.

Come on, let's hear it. If you can't even come up with a one word description of the concepts yourself, because it's too difficult. I've done it for you.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/10/2019 18:28

They feel just as unsafe as we do around men.

Male violence is the problem. But Mumsnet is targeted and women concerned about male violence are reported to their employers, the police, Twitter, whoever. This makes no sense to me. Instead of asking women to budge up, why aren't trans women saying to other bio males that they need to expand their ideas of valid ways to be male?

We try to do that here for women struggling with gender stereotyping. It's a great pity that so many other people see the restrictive gender boxes as valid and people who can't fit into them as the problem.

MonstranceClock · 11/10/2019 18:28

You don’t have to believe me, but they do. My friend is trans, born a male. She’s 5ft5 and has had her kicked in 3 times, just for dating to be who she feels the happiest as. She’s had the full operation. My other trans friends tend to use the acccessible toilets, unless their at work, where no one gives a shit.

KennDodd · 11/10/2019 18:29

Easiest boycott ever.

Might phone customer services and send their shitty spread identifying as butter back.

womenspeakout · 11/10/2019 18:32

This is one of the only spaces remaining where women can voice their opinions and worries.

I was just banned yesterday from a forum for posting about gender neutral bathrooms. I didn't actually say anything anti trans, and it was admitted by the mods, however it could be misconstrued into anti trans feelings, and so I had to be banned, a woman, with an opinion and a worry, banned for expressing it.

Please don't change.

Who kicked her, was it women

RedToothBrush · 11/10/2019 18:32

I bought some today.

I hadn't seen this thread.

I will no longer buy it.

exLtEveDallas · 11/10/2019 18:32

My Doctor wanted me to give Flora Pro-Active a try. I didn't really want to because I prefer butter (and on occasion Countrylife). But I was willing(ish) to have a go...
woo hoo, now I don't have to!
