I've not seen this reported anywhere till today but good news.
The rubber fetish wanker who filmed himself in the NSPCC loo at work was dismissed on 12th August ,I hope he isn't employed by another charity.

No not all NSPCC employees. But clearly there were others who thought it was acceptable, notably the person in charge of tweeting their support for him. So has anything happened to them, or do people who oppose calling out unprofessional behaviour and raising safeguarding concerns still work there?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/10/2019 10:01

Maybe they will be sent off for re-education...

MockersthefeMANist · 12/10/2019 10:05

The defence still seems to be, "But he didn't do it in front of any children, so that's (sort of) alright, then."

OrchidInTheSun · 12/10/2019 10:08

It's odd how all those people who were screaming about homophobic bullying when the video of Makings went viral have been so very quiet when he got sacked for (presumably) gross misconduct. Why aren't they up in arms defending their pal?

57Varieties · 12/10/2019 10:11

Excellent news.

MockersthefeMANist · 12/10/2019 10:11

A comparison, if he worked for HJ Heinz, who assure their customers, 'At no stage did he piss or wank into the baked beans.'

TimeLady · 12/10/2019 10:12

Do we have their names too? Always handy for future background checks if they're all nicely collated in one thread Wink

Exactly. No, it isn't alright then. The entire organisation is about boundaries. If an employee is so far removed from his organisation's focus on boundaries and how the lack of them results in the abuse of children, that he wanks at work in his fetish gear then of course he should be sacked. And so should everyone else at the org who doesn't understand its bloody ethos.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/10/2019 10:30

He did it and posted it to the world - so yup it was in front of les enfants...

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/10/2019 10:31

Can you imaging the ‘poor’ (I have little sympathy as they seem to push/facilitate so much right on nonsense these days) HR trying to write a reference for him?

Try Peter Tatchell.

Agreed but really I cant think of any job where this would be acceptable or not lead to an instant sacking.
I have tried and tried to think where else it would be brushed under the carpet and whitewashed.
And the adults complicit in this whitewashing really need seriously looking at. Can only assume their idea of boundaries and normal working functions is as bad or worse than James's

Themyscira · 12/10/2019 12:30

The NSPCC are untrustworthy hypocrites, at least the ones at the top, and the ones approving tweets. Obviously. See also the Mumsnet questions thread debacle.

They also teach children that CSA and CSE is only abusive if the child feels uncomfortable, therefore handwaving all the other grooming tactics that go on when adults abuse children.

LangCleg · 13/10/2019 11:40

Of particular concern here since the NSPCC's founding ethos is about maintaining child protection and children's boundaries and yet its leaders initially saw nothing wrong with an employee a) wanking at work, b) participating publicly in an AGE PLAY fetish, c) writing about underage sexual experiences in sex clubs online.

Time to remind everyone that the NSPCC is the UK's only child protection charity with statutory powers? It can initiate care proceedings in the family courts.

This is why I find this story so upsetting and enraging. I can't believe it hasn't had more traction in the media. It suggests the NSPCC isn't doing basic due diligence when it comes to recruiting staff. (If you look at Makins's LinkedIn, he didn't even seem to have the qualifications that would equip him to do the job he was doing.)

I was talking to someone who campaigns on child sex abuse about this, and she said, the NSPCC will be a magnet for paedophiles and abusers because they are inevitably drawn to organisations that are involved in protecting children. I mean, of course they bloody are. Yet the NSPCC is not even doing the basics.

Fraggling · 13/10/2019 11:52

Oh so they could get argumentative womens kids removed, in theory.

All the awesome.

Women are scared to speak out and rightly so.

Other side is trans orgs saying families that don't start stuffing their kids full of hormones, bind their breasts, be bang all over getting surgery to chop off healthy body parts etc are abusive and kids should be removed.

To stay with 'rainbow families' as some have suggested.

Erm.

I raised this with a senior leader at my school. Pointing out that obviously abusers will want to be around children and that's why we need to be on guard. NSPCC should know better than anyone, but they don't seem to.

Thanks OP!

I have not had any response at all regarding the complaint I made, so great to see this that James Makings has been fired from the NSPCC.

I hope he thinks more carefully about where he masturbates in public areas (and videos it and publishes it online) in future.

That is such good news. And shame on those who defended him. With twitter, it's so fast moving that it's easy to forget a burning issue and move onto the next one. Has anyone heard anything about the YHA review into their single sex accommodation policy?

There is a thread (I’ve not checked to see if you’re already on it) but page 3 has updates from as recently as Sept. by @BuzzShitbagBobbly

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 13/10/2019 13:22

Re the MSM, let's not forget that lovely James Kirkup and Janice Turner hang out here too (and the rest!), so maybe they'll be able to do something on it.

Their next response (or my chasing for it) is due any day now, if they are keeping to their response timelines (last one was bang on the deadline for new queries, but this is existing which gets an "as soon as possible")

RoyalCorgi · 13/10/2019 13:26

Great to see this in the Sunday Mirror (who also published the original story in June). Really hope other outlets follow it up.
