I’m offering this without comment, mainly because my jaw is still on the floor.

Thank ypu GC for posting the link and sharing the opportunity to sign up to put a stop to normalising porn and extreme sexual behaviours that come with such huge associated risks.

Anal sex for 13 year olds? Warwickshire again...

Further news from Warwickshire in today's Telegraph :

Controversial sex education course that taught children about touching their own genitals is pulled - namely

The “All About Me” syllabus, which was rolled out at over 200 primary schools across Warwickshire

truthisarevolutionaryact · 12/04/2020 20:52

Why have they pulled it Dreamprincess ? If I recall correctly Warwickshire doubled down and defended both the programme and the individuals involved in developing it - despite all the inappropriate content detailed in this thread.

MoleSmokes · 13/04/2020 03:55

Same story in local press, so no PayWall:

"Warwickshire County Council scraps programme after parents say it encouraged masturbation"

www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/warwickshire-county-council-scraps-programme-18081080

The bad press, petition and threat of legal action by a Christian organisation probably had a lot to do with this:

"In a Cabinet report, the council notes that an independent review of AAM has been carried out by the Sex Education Forum, part of the National Children’s Bureau, and “approves the replacement of it with an information and signposting offer to schools.”

Warwickshire still has to update its "Respect Yourself" page - the links still lead to a site "under review":

warwickshirecse.co.uk/30116.html

The organisation that made and sold "Respect Yourself" to Warwickshire and other Councils is "Going Off The Rails" aka "Jonny Hunt" aka "Little Rubber Hat" twitter.com/littlerubberhat.

It is still advertising that it provides free training ("free" as in "pre-paid"?) "Respect Yourself Training" for professionals working with "young people" in Warwickshire:

www.goingofftherails.co.uk/training/respect-yourself-training/

There were a whole bunch of other Councils who had bought in to "Respect Yourself" but I can't see them listed on that website now.

(There is change in the air - there has also been a bit of a climb-down from Andrew Moffat aka "No Outsiders" in Birmingham.)

Childrenofthestones · 13/04/2020 09:05

From promoting the underage use of porn to advising children how to have anal sex, in every case I have ever come across it has been a left wing, or left-wing dominated council/authority/committee.

"Schools are obviously facing a challenging time at the moment. But as soon as they can, they must consult with parents on a different approach to teaching RSE which complies with the law. As with other teaching in state schools, it must be balanced, objective and critical, not pushing particular controversial views such as transgender ideology.”

A return to common sense..

SugarPlumFairyCakes · 13/04/2020 10:15

**Childrenofthestones. Warwickshire County Council has a Conservative majority. Even what would be classed as traditional Labour areas have voted Tory over the last 10 years or so.

partystress · 13/04/2020 10:41

Thank you for sharing. Some good news. Perhaps the tide is turning at last.

MoleSmokes · 13/04/2020 12:06

What I have not seen mentioned anywhere is any evaluation of the impact of RSE in schools. Not just on the knowledge and attitudes of children but on the behaviours that they claim, or are alleged, to influence.

Is anyone aware of anything? Preferably not hopelessly partisan. So much of the campaigning around RSE seems be at the extremes of "God doesn't want you to be Gay!" vs "Kindergarten Kink".

R0wantrees - I've been looking at all the work done by Mumsnet in the past (2012 - 2014), campaigning for compulsory RSE in Schools and surveying members. It all seems incredibly naive now, with people arguing in good faith that schools need to bring in "outside experts". The landscape has changed too, with "Gender identities" in the foreground where they were just a dot on the horizon back then.

I wondered what your thoughts were? This feels like it should be a topic on its own. I have had a quick scoot around the "Education Boards", to see if concerns expressed on FWR are reflected there, but the discussions seem to be much more focussed on schools rather than on broader topics like this.

Worldpeace123 · 18/04/2020 05:34

Which is why some people prefer home schooling their children.
That is sick.

Thinkingabout1t · 20/04/2020 22:58

Can someone more eloquent than I please express the utter rage and despair I’m feeling, without resorting to a sentence that consists only of swear words?

Only by beating my head silently against the wall.
