Sheffield strip club keeps licence despite opposition by feminist coalition

From the way the Guardian reports it (but does anyone think their reporting is unbiased) the undercover filming that campaigners organised has worked against them.

I think the licence will be reviewer again in a year. Have a horrible feeling that if it hadn't been "feminists" campaigning but "local" people the council would have acted differently. The patriarchy likes to be seen to slapping down uppity women.

They didn't even value the opinion of the local Rape Crisis Centre which works nearby. Sad

As in, some posters there is LITERALLY primary school debate when it comes to differing views. As there's no listening to other views, just playground jibe crap.

Literally primary school debate would be a bunch of actual children having a conversation (about strip clubs, ew). Your comment otoh is literally hyperbole. Hope that helps to illustrate the correct usage of the word "literally".

Yay, comment on the semantics of the wording to avoid what was actually said and the point made.
Not had that one before. (Oh, wait...)

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/09/2019 20:24

If at some point you say something that's worth serious consideration I'll be happy to consider it. Not holding my breath though given the rest of the thread.

TinselAngel · 20/09/2019 20:50

I'm seriously wondering if we should agree a ceasefire until the morning so Roses can get some rest.

Either that or send over some camomile tea and a turkey sandwich.

TinselAngel · 20/09/2019 21:00

"Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht"

All is calm, all is bright

littlbrowndog · 20/09/2019 21:07

It’s kinda all that though

So many posts yet nothing worth considering 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 20/09/2019 21:11

yet nothing worth considering

I’m considering stopping singing if no one is going to join in

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/09/2019 21:13

Well I was going to but then I got to Round yon Virgin, Mother, Mother and Child and thought, on this thread? No way that's going to go well.

TinselAngel · 20/09/2019 21:13

It wouldn't really work if I did the next line.

Blimey, I thought you'd accidentally c+p'd your gameplan there, but you actually mean someone else, don't you?Shock

Answer the question.

SophoclesTheFox · 20/09/2019 21:14

This thread is wild.

The only way the objection to the whistle blowing holds is if you know that sex work isn’t work as other work is.

And all this STOP SAYING I CANT MAKE A LIVING nonsense is obfuscating piffle. The point is that very many of us don’t want to live in a world where women’s bodies are commodities. If you’re happy in your sunlit uplands of stripping, well hooray for you, but far from wanting to save you, I couldn’t give a hoot what you do with your body. I campaign for a world where men don’t think they have the right to any woman’s body as entertainment, and where women who don’t actually enjoy it have other alternatives. It’s not about individuals. God almighty, it’s such a simple concept, but you have to start by believing that a world without male sexual entitlement could exist, and that it would be good for everyone.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 20/09/2019 21:15

Rudolph the red nose reindeer

Had a very shiny nose...

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/09/2019 21:17

That's not very soothing. The only other put you to sleep carol I can think of is In The Deep Midwinter, and if Roses happens to be somewhere hot that will just make her feel mocked.

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 21:17

Answer the question

What question would that be then.
Would be helpful.

BeMoreMagdalen · 20/09/2019 21:18

How about the Coventry Carol? It's rather minor key and a bit sinister. I feel it works.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/09/2019 21:20

We could do We Three Kings and have the star of mercy be a stripper pole...

BeMoreMagdalen · 20/09/2019 21:20

Oo, and there's even a version by Alison Moyet, impressive woman of note.

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 21:20

If it was to Barbara's musing, nobody else has come up with a solution apart from "Ban 'Em All!" so why should I automatically be supposed to be the one to come up with a solution that benefits all women? Including the ones you (general you) pretend aren't there, lying, or don't exist?

SophoclesTheFox · 20/09/2019 21:22

Maybe a bit of Hallelujah? A bit of L Cohen is quite soothing.

But baby, I’ve been here before,
I’ve seen this room, I’ve walked this floor
I’ve seen your flag on the Marble Arch
And love is not a victory march
Etc etc
Hallelujah

TinselAngel · 20/09/2019 21:22

We'd have to rehearse the harmonies for the Coventry Carol.

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 21:24

far from wanting to save you, I couldn’t give a hoot what you do with your body

Um... you kind of do though if you're telling them what they can and can't do with them though....

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 20/09/2019 21:24

Love that song soph

The shrek version natch
