Sheffield strip club keeps licence despite opposition by feminist coalition

From the way the Guardian reports it (but does anyone think their reporting is unbiased) the undercover filming that campaigners organised has worked against them.

I think the licence will be reviewer again in a year. Have a horrible feeling that if it hadn't been "feminists" campaigning but "local" people the council would have acted differently. The patriarchy likes to be seen to slapping down uppity women.

They didn't even value the opinion of the local Rape Crisis Centre which works nearby. Sad

Courtney, you're really, really not building a case when you talk about the women who work there as thieving, drug addicted alcoholics with no boundaries.

Seriously. Your lack of self awareness is staggering.

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 11:38

Your lack of self awareness is staggering

The absolute IRONY.

Courtney555 · 20/09/2019 11:42

The absolute IRONY.

Oh I know. It's comedic. We've learnt to laugh at it. Because as you can see, you literally can't spell it out.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 20/09/2019 11:43

Let me address my experience of those kind of reviews/testimonials. Because I have not only been a dancer, but ran a club as house mum for a while

House mum...yes that explains so much.

Datun · 20/09/2019 11:45

They are your words Courtney. Thieving, drug addicted, alcoholic, no boundaries.

All whilst trying to describe how empowering being a stripper is.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 20/09/2019 11:46

If everyone is so well behaved, why does a club need a house mum?

Oh to keep the girls in check. The men? They were all fine, no problems there.

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 11:49

Courtney, you're really, really not building a case when you talk about the women who work there as thieving, drug addicted alcoholics with no boundaries

I read Courtney's words as anyone caught violating the rules are in a minority and swiftly dealt with and not tolerated.
Which is good,right?
The painty of all the same seems to be happening again - as anyone who doesn't see women as one big blob of all the same would see in seconds.

Courtney555 · 20/09/2019 11:52

@RosesAndRaindrops

But...at least now, they've not been able to help themselves and gone and been so ridiculous that many people have noticed. And these many people see exactly what they are too. These many people not only support us, they're laughing along with us. It's amazing karma.

I adore and encourage threads like this. I can't tell you how much. Watching them endlessly shoot themselves in the foot all contributes to our industry and the support we get as people can't believe the shit they throw at us whilst claiming they support women. It all helps our clubs not get shut down.

Tell people you know to read this thread Roses. The more people that see what you're seeing, the better. Because believe me, they really do see it, they listen, they ask questions, and that's a great thing.

LangCleg · 20/09/2019 11:54

Courtney - it's grimly amusing to watch you respond to a post critiquing you as an arch Thatcherite who doesn't give a shit about other women or social harms so long as she's alright with a post.... expanding on being an arch Thatcherite who doesn't give a shit about other women or social harms so long as she's alright.

But you know: props for your honesty. It is better than being subjected to Cunt's snake oil masquerading as endless empowerment/counselling/art woo. At least you're not pretending.

LangCleg · 20/09/2019 11:56

Roses! Hello! Earth calling poster who did a big old fuck up! Where's my retraction?

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 11:56

The men? They were all fine, no problems there

I wouldn't have thought so, I bet a fair few arseholes turn up through the doors!
As someone upthread said (think it was Courtney?) someone did anyway - that if you touch/and/or harrass you're thrown straight out the door, no messing.
So they seem to be dealt with too.

Courtney555 · 20/09/2019 11:56

If everyone is so well behaved, why does a club need a house mum?

Ummmm. Me not know. Why factory need supervisor? Why supermarket have manager? Why anywhere have anyone in charge? Just too confoosing. Helps me.

2BthatUnnoticed · 20/09/2019 11:58

It wasn’t an ex-dancer who left that review, court, but a current employee: sexual assault is prevalent.. from both the customers and managers

But pro-industry voices will always victim-blame women.

This is why I addressed the question to pro-woman posters, anyone? Abolition or bust? Where do people stand?

Sheffield strip club keeps licence despite opposition by feminist coalition
Courtney555 · 20/09/2019 12:03

@RosesAndRaindrops

See how easily you understand the plain English I'm writing.

They pretend they can't even read the same thing. And yet it's that spelt out, you can answer their "questions" without hesitation on my behalf.

Imagine this brigade for the last decade Grin

And now they've fucked up so loud with so many stories, the whole bullshit they've "saving" us from, has backfired and people are not only hearing our voices, but thank fuck, finally believing us.

God bless 'em, every one Grin

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 12:04

For clarity

Big old fuck up being poster putting up a serious posted question as a solution to the problem - as in would CCTV be a viable solution?
Poster 2 responded to me saying "maybe that could be a good solution if it was with consent and was viable to do" with HAHAHAHAHAHA as if and did the whole slap down patronising made it to be bollocks to think so.
With poster 1 and 2 always in agreement with each other and blow kisses with in jokes to themselves and other "right women" I'm taking a mad bet that the poster wouldn't have responded to the solution like that to t'other one.
Easy to confuse the two names when that's the level of crap you deal with on here.
It was clearly a gotcha whoever the fuck said it.
So no.
No retraction.
HTH

Datun · 20/09/2019 12:05

But...at least now, they've not been able to help themselves and gone and been so ridiculous that many people have noticed.

I'm not sure I would characterise roses as 'many people' Grin

Datun · 20/09/2019 12:10

sexual assault is prevalent.. from both the customers and managers

It's a very good question 2BthatUnnoticed. I'm not sure what the answer is.

Misogyny is so rife, and so beneficial to men, too many people collude with it.

The issue of sexual harassment in the workplace is an issue greatly promoted by the MeToo campaigning . But without much happening about it, despite its illegality.

Being harassed where your work place is designed to sexually objectify you, is a minefield.

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 12:12

Again, as you say, what was it?
Lack of self awareness?
It really is.
Pretend you can't read what's actually been put by all means.
I just don't get by all this bullshit how you think you're doing your cause any good - you're doing the exact opposite and turning more and more people away!
You'll never understand, and if it's as Courtney says, it's actively helping them to stay open - seeing as that's not what you want, why do this?
Radical stance does more harm than good it seems.

LangCleg · 20/09/2019 12:12

No retraction

Finally! Here, have another one:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You want to work on your paranoia there, my dear.

Courtney555 · 20/09/2019 12:12

Yeah, that's right. Only Roses sees through it. No other posters. Nope. Except the many other posters on this thread. Amazing Grin

It's amazing how you just prove the point further. Thank you for being part of what keeps our clubs open. Keep on going, exactly as you are. You do more for us in your backwards efforts than than we ever have.

NatashasDance · 20/09/2019 12:14

And until women like you finally get it through your heads that that's not what a strip club is, you'll never be able to understand why we love our career choice

But that is exactly what a strip club is. All that talk about being therapists, artistic expression- it's just nonsense. Men go to strip clubs to see tits and cunts. As the charming quote from an an actual punter on another thread confirmed. He wants to see the stripper's cunt.

Men are not going to strip clubs to see the visual expression of ideas and emotions through music via the medium of interpretative or narrative dance- which is what real dancers (men and women) do.

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 12:15

Lack of self awareness as Courtney's post was blatantly referring to you. Not me.
(Not that there's any point in trying to explain, ah well)
Crack on with your jokes and twisty shit by all means, but just so you know it's having the complete opposite effect in what you're trying to achieve.

Courtney555 · 20/09/2019 12:17

You'll never understand, and if it's as Courtney says, it's actively helping them to stay open - seeing as that's not what you want, why do this?
Fucksake Roses don't point that out. Although to be fair, as you're just one of those "gullible" fools who believes "happy hookers" they don't actually think you're worth listening too. Not the "right type" of woman you see.

Sorry. That should say fux sake shouldn't it Wink

Datun · 20/09/2019 12:17

The fact that you are promoting the objectification of women as a gotcha, is extraordinary, Courtney.

This thread is about female employees being subjected to abuse and sexual harassment, 74 breaches of the license and 140 odd breaches of conduct. Who, according to you, are likely disgruntled employees, on the basis of being thieving, drug addicted, alcoholics who got fired.

And you are jumping up and down in glee as to how much you are perpetuating it.

NatashasDance · 20/09/2019 12:19

All three were girls that no longer worked at the club

I'll tell you what is grim- Courtney's continual use of the word "girl" when referring to strippers. It's a trope the pro- punter lobby invariably use.
