I lurk on these boards and rarely post. And I lurk a bit on real life and rarely speak it unless I am confident of the company I am in. I fear that I could start an argument and not have the words to hold my line. Magdalen didn’t fear anyone, so I shouldn’t either. And those are my words now.

Narcissism does seem to be on the rise......in a major way - even when you look at our national leaders. Trump being the ultimate example.

What might be the reasons for this? Most likely the presence of social media and on-line communications, tweeting etc exacerbates it? No awareness of the reality of others; only one's own thought processes and profile. People creating and occupying their own tailor made world in which they are the star.

Yes, unfortunately. One of those people for whom any attention, even negative, is welcome. Usually I feel sorry for people like that, as something must have gone terribly wrong in their childhood, but he's just too pernicious and nasty.

As MNHQ have decided that misgendering is a far greater crime than wishing people dead and then celebrating it happening, I think we need to respect their decision.

There are lots of examples of genderfluid people out there and we are told that we should never assume anyone's gender. As a result of that, surely the most respectful thing would be to base pronouns on sex rather than gender to avoid inadvertently offending anyone who's gender may have changed since they last announced it. We all know that sex cannot change so referring to Mr McKinnon as he would prevent embarrassment in the future if he decides to become non binary or any of the ridiculous number of genders out there.

It's very tricky trying to stay the right side of the special FWR rules when they seem so arbitrary.

Either say that in all cases we can speak the truth or (as much as I hate to say it) say that we always have to use preferred pronouns.

It's too difficult for us (and I suspect the mods) to work out if someone is true trans enough for preferred pronouns.

I don't. I'm a Republican, I don't know the woman and I don't consider her any better than me so I refer to her as "Elizabeth". This will probably cause some people to accuse me of disrespect and of not being civil. And they might even be right as I have no reason to respect someone I don't know.
