Ignore him. He’s enjoying the publicity.

Well quite possibly. But we should remain outraged about outrageous things. And we should highlight them to people who pop in to see how vile and transphobic we are because that is what they have been told to think.

So I'll be happy to see this get to 1000.

FlyingOink · 14/09/2019 19:49

So between this and the thread about this thread being deleted, it makes me think again that we need a legal fund.

Like a pressure group that only exists to defend feminists in law from accusations of defamation or discrimination through failing to comply with gendering demands.

A group who Mumsnet could go to, for expert legal advice on whether something was legally objectionable or not.

A group who could make public pronouncements about what is and what isn't permitted to be said publicly.

Maya Forstater's request for donations did well, but wouldn't it be better to have that kind of welly available all the time?

I'm not able to manage a fund and I'm not a lawyer, but an organisation like that I would happily give £20/month to.

All this stuff is happening outwith the law, it isn't being challenged in court, self-id is being imposed by default, etc. (I know you all know so I won't labour the point).

The organisations failing to provide single sex services as mandated by law? We sue them. Schools that fail to provide single sex toilets as mandated by several laws? We sue them.

Horrible bastard celebrates the death of a brave and outspoken women? We contact his employer and claim students are affected by his misogyny.

Sue, sue, sue, sue. We'd be more successful than Yaniv, that's for sure.

Like a union, but for feminists, basically.

Is that possible? It must be.

HeadintheiClouds · 14/09/2019 19:54

I’m in.

hazandduck · 14/09/2019 19:55

I agree with you @FlyingOink.

FlyingOink · 14/09/2019 20:00

How do we set it up? Any finance or charity experts about?
Happy to talk via PM.

I'd be in for a fund - but it would have to be managed by someone with the right legal experience/accountability. Someone like Sarah Phillimore would be ideal.

Creepster · 14/09/2019 22:17

What are the odds that MNHQ are ever going to tell a man to be nice?

Voice0fReason · 14/09/2019 23:42

What a truly reprehensible, revolting, repulsive creature.

Cittadina · 15/09/2019 09:07

Hello, sort of semi new to this. Horrified by the whole thing. I'll be up for a fund. Very sorry to hear about Magdalen Berns untimely and tragic death. She was bright and brave.

There's precedent in the US where this kind of thing has existed for a while. I think we need to be fighting a lot of this in court which is why I suggested it. Unfortunately I can't offer much to help set it up which is frustrating.

I’d donate, many people would I think. The bigger question is, whether anyone has the time and mental space to set it up at the moment?

LangCleg · 16/09/2019 09:01

A union for feminists! I like that idea!

Fallingirl · 17/09/2019 02:29

I think a women’s union is sorely needed.

I wonder if some of the existing women’s groups could advise on how to go about it.

E.g rightsofwomen.org.uk/ specialise in family, criminal and immigration law, so not quite the kind of union we are talking about, but they would most likely have a better idea of how you set about getting organised than I do.

Pricedrop · 18/09/2019 12:57

following, interested in the women's union idea. would like to help but have no knowledge/experience other than 1) being in a union 2) general executive skills

ArranUpsideDown · 18/09/2019 13:03

Perhaps LadyJustice ProfessorRosaFreedman or HowlsMovingCastle or some of the feminist lawyers mentioned in a recent WPUK event might have an idea?

Birdsfoottrefoil · 18/09/2019 13:09

I would want the remit of any fund to be very tightly drawn including explicitly stating that TW are not W.

ThatCurlyGirl · 18/09/2019 14:28

@WomanBornNotWorn

Oh my god can you imagine if that violent vitriol was spewed by a feminist? They would (quite rightly) be taken to task, vilified and face consequences both at work and in their sport.

Like I keep saying, equality is equality it is not a reason for anyone to incite or imply violence and serious injuries to other people.

Thank you for sharing that, I think it's really important people see the level people are sinking to.

Thanks
