Oh, Sam. It's OK to be a feminine man. Just be patient and wait for the right partner.

www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-7458871/Sam-Smith-asks-loved-ones-refer-instead-he.html

This looks like the first steps towards transition to me, and I have a strong sense of foreboding. Sam sounds deeply unhappy.

Yes PropertyofHood he said at the time that he felt he had “women’s feelings” because he wanted to do sexy “womanly” dancing or some other such offensive guff.

RedToothBrush · 15/09/2019 20:28

Sam Smith has a publicist.

This publicist knows all the tricks in the book. If you'd like to watch a TV series which talks about all the tricks of the self promotion trade, I recommend (genuinely actually) the Jade Goody three part series currently on Channel 4's on demand service.

It looks at how her vulnerabilities were exploited and she went along with it willingly almost as a hostage to it.

This is what's happening here.

This is a feminine gay man who doesn't want to admit it, and it's good for his career that he's in denial about it, and his PR team are exploiting his unresolved issues for financial reasons.

It's obviously the only way to stay relevant, cos obviously his music alone is failing to do that.

My daughter told me he said something about thinking like a woman. We wondered if that meant he was worried he was pregnant because his period was late. We were struggling to think of other specifically womanly thoughts.

Pinkarsedfly · 15/09/2019 20:57

Specifically womanly thoughts...

‘My tits hurt, wonder if I’m due on?’

‘Fucking scented pads making me want to scratch my flaps off again.’

‘Why does Colin get paid more than me for doing the same job?’

‘I wish my clitoris hadn’t been cut out while I was held down and sewn up.’

‘Shit, no money for a taxi and I daren’t walk home alone.’

‘Not much point reporting my rape. I was pissed and wearing a thong.’

You can see why they want in, can’t you?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 15/09/2019 22:03

Why’s my skin gone all pimply? I have the sudden urge to rip someone’s head off. Ohhhhh - what’s the date again (aw crapbags I don’t have any XXXL night sanitary towels...)

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 15/09/2019 22:09

My thoughts today:

"Ffs my boobs feel like ten tons of crushed glass and now I've got to strap them into a bra for the next twelve hours."

"Oh good, premenstrual backache making any form of lying or sitting painful"

"Zero desire to do anything but curl up but the fucking laundry won't wash itself and neither will the bathroom Cif itself clean"

Etc

Lamahaha · 16/09/2019 12:25

I've often wondered about this. They talk so much about "feeling, thinking like a woman" yet they ignore the ONE THING that might get them some sympathy -- the female predisposition to be nice, to put others first, to try to understand the other and take a back seat, to be unassuming and non-assertive.
These are the very "feminine" traits that they relied upon when sneaking into our areas -- using the very "masculine" traits of bullying, "me first", "I get what I want", privilege, entitlement.

They say they are women, but act entirely, typically like toxic men.

RoyalCorgi · 16/09/2019 13:40

Brendan O'Neill nails it again:

JasBBGG · 16/09/2019 19:28

I was with my male hairdresser today who had Gynaecomastia as a child (growing breasts) so a proper medical condition which I could understand may make someone transition or perhaps at the least feel a bit feminine like Sam knows so well. His view though is no he's gay and he's proud of it and was born a boy and that's how he'll stay.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 17/09/2019 21:03

It always strikes me how similar non binary people and gc feminists are, in that how both say it's okay to go outside gender norms. Then there's the huge divide about how people should go about that. I just can't believe how regressive the non binary position is. It's okay to be a feminine man. It doesn't stop you being a man. Ever. Likewise for a woman with masculinity.

This podcast is with the person tagged by Sam Smith in their coming out tweet, a drag queen called Crystal:
www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p07nlcc3
It's completely one sided look into non binary ideas.
Predictably, in the podcast, Crystal claims the aggression is all one sided. I don't know if they meant us? Or the vile men who have attacked them on the street?
They challenged the interviewer to name one aggressive trans person. The interviewer couldn't.

Tara Wolf? Jonathon Yaviv? Cathy Brennan? It never happened.

This is a sad read too:
www.theguardian.com/global/2019/feb/03/crystal-rasmussen-diary-of-a-drag-queen
Particularly the "comedy bad sex" as a teen. Drinking toilet water. I dread to think what crystal went through and how that's effected them.

We need to wipe out homophobia, so that no young gay man or woman ever thinks they are not perfect just the way they are.

As for pronouns. Crystal refers to Crystal as "she" in the guardian article. But the podcast is all about them using the "them" pronoun. All the while being an openly gay man. Confusing eh?

My daughter told me he said something about thinking like a woman.

Maybe that woman was Marie Curie and he was thinking about radioactive isotopes. Confused

Packingsoapandwater · 24/10/2019 00:03

Or Smith could have been thinking like Maryam Mirzakhani and pondering over complex geodesics.

I often "think like a woman" when I ponder gothic tropes in literature and horror and their use of landscapes of bleakness. The woman I am thinking like is, of course, Emily Bronte.

So I think the question here is what woman was Smith thinking like. The possibilities are endless: Emma Goldman, Margaret Thatcher, Benazir Bhutto, Jane Fonda?

We should be told.

WrathofSIxFootSIxElfKlop · 24/10/2019 00:31

Sam smith is thinking like Norah Batty.
Or maybe the Queen of England.
Or maybe the Queen of Sheba.

Ffs

AntsInPenzance · 12/03/2021 15:13

Bumping this thread because Sam Smith has just been excluded from being eligible for either the Brits best male and best female categories.

Crumpydump · 12/03/2021 15:17

seriously? Wow. Off to check this out!

Aha85 · 12/03/2021 15:17

Does SS want a non-binary category? Which presumably SS would win every time for the moment...

nauticant · 12/03/2021 15:24

That is mischievous posting!

The story is that contrary to earlier reported intentions, the BRIT awards are going to keep male and female categories. Apparently Sam Smith is up for an award in the male category so people have been speculating that if they is non-binary they would want to withdraw from the male category because to continue would mean effectively misgendering themselves.

Kit19 · 12/03/2021 15:24

I presume equally they could have been nominated in both categories but people might find that a bit unfair....

so they are nominated for best male and haven't withdrawn then?
Aha85 · 12/03/2021 15:30

That's how it's being reported though Nauticant?

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/music/2021/mar/12/sam-smith-gender-2021-brit-awards

Apologies for the Guardian link!

From what I've read in various newspapers is that he hasn't been shortlisted in either category.
nauticant · 12/03/2021 15:35

I have to confess I haven't looked too deeply into this Aha85 because Sam Smith bores the life out of me and it's nearly the weekend.
