Things I have learned in Feminist Chat

Just listening to a programme on impartial journalism on Radio 4. Yes, I know some people will be giving a hollow laugh Grin

To be fair, the panel includes Robert Peston and Julia Hartley Brewer. I’m enjoying it. At the beginning Helen Lewis referred to the Overton Window. I had never heard of it until I started reading posts on here.

It’s just one thing among many I’ve learned on Feminist Chat. I wondered if anyone else could pinpoint things they’ve only found out about here.

I know more about the EA and the GRA than I ever wanted to!

Also more about AGP. 🤢

Overton window. Ontological categories...

This is a great idea for a thread.

I have learned so much from being able to talk to other trans widows and I'm grateful to Mumsnet for facilitating that.

It has profoundly influenced me and my feminism and I think has had some influence in shifting the position of others.

JellySlice · 12/09/2019 22:15

Internalised misogyny.

SarahTancredi · 12/09/2019 22:18

I have learnt that it's far worse and more depressing than I ever could have.imagined.

I also learnt that the problem is not us.

paniquer · 12/09/2019 22:20

That weetabix, hot milk and banana is the best. Grin

Deliriumoftheendless · 12/09/2019 22:39

I’ve learned a lot about emotional abuse in relationships. I’ve been lucky not to ever have had a relationship like that, so I had no idea. Very useful information to know.

Chesterton's Fence.

And WBH exists, as if there weren't enough horrors in the world.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 12/09/2019 22:41

TinselAngel · 12/09/2019 22:46

That weetabix, hot milk and banana is the best

Amongst all the profound truths we gave learned here, there's bound to be some bollocks.

LangCleg · 12/09/2019 22:50

I can't believe that WBH made it to the first page!

Seriously: how easy it is to disappear a group of women who need feminism and feminist spaces without even knowing you're doing it (my friend, you know what I mean).

littlbrowndog · 12/09/2019 22:50

I have learnt that being a professor does not stop you from being a total idiot

And also to read and learn and think about it before posting

And fuckmthat vile weetabix stuff

nettie434 · 12/09/2019 22:54

How could I have forgotten to include the Great Weetabix Debates as a given? Grey rock are another of mine too.

TinselAngel · 12/09/2019 22:57

Lang 😘

(nb That's not for the Weetabix filth).

Ereshkigal · 12/09/2019 23:02

I've learned that however low someone goes, someone else will make a point of going lower.

Russell's teapot

Whatisthisfuckery · 12/09/2019 23:09

I have learnt that it will never, ever, ever, ever happen. Absolutely under no circumstances will it ever happen, and that anyone who suggests it might is a bigot.
