I don't know if I've posted this properly but I'm with the woman on the video.'I disapprove,I don't like it'.

I’ve had the misfortune to encounter these in Amsterdam. You can smell them before you see them.

More proper public toilets (for men and women) would be a better solution.

AncientLights · 31/08/2019 18:40

I love the comments about how it's wrong to video this & post online, when the man concerned seemed quite happy to piss in public. Didn't seem overly concerned about his privacy if you ask me.

raisinseverywhere · 31/08/2019 18:44

I don’t like these. Don’t like the thought of walking past a man with his penis out, even if I can’t see it.

AnyFucker · 31/08/2019 18:45

It's a continental fing

MrGHardy · 31/08/2019 18:52

In Amsterdam they have these things, like you walk into it but it is still open.

But this is just...as if you are pissing against a wall. wtf.

And who would do this. I wouldn't even use the Amsterdam ones unless I desperately needed to, I was drunk, and it was dark...

TeiTetua · 31/08/2019 19:23

It's worse in France:

rightsinfo.org/uritrottoirs-how-public-urinals-prompted-a-gender-equality-debate-in-france/

Say what you like about Brexit, it gets us away from these awful foreigners.

Mxyzptlk · 31/08/2019 19:31

Those awful foreign french feminists have the right idea.

Wurzelsnewhead · 31/08/2019 20:07

Eurgh - this makes me think of dogs cocking a leg and pissing in the street.
For goodness sake why not just build more public loos and maintain decency. Men can hold on until a loo is available, if they choose not to use CCTV to id and trace them . The answer isn’t to pander to dirty habits and make outdoor urinals for the lazy gits. I don’t want to walk down a street to the sound and smells of someone having a wee. What strange times we live in 😷

SquirmOfEels · 31/08/2019 20:10

There's a permanent one at Vauxhall station, so not new for London

WombOfOnesOwn · 31/08/2019 20:28

Ah, the classic. "We can only spend enough money to give men convenience, women's convenience and safety would cost more, so, men it is!"

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 31/08/2019 20:34

Wow! So men can now legally wave their dicks about in the street and when anyone says a man exposed himself to her/a child he can just say he was using the urinal. Great.

june2007 · 31/08/2019 20:35

Seen more abroad, I don't like.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 31/08/2019 20:35

If a man pees against a wall in public he can get a (I think!) public order offence slapped on him, but he does it against a piece of molded plastic in public and that’s fine.

georgialondon · 31/08/2019 20:37

These have been in central London for at least 4 years. Definitely not new and not a scoop!

GCAcademic · 31/08/2019 20:55

We are going back to a time when public conveniences were only available for men. It feels like we are going to have to fight for everything all over again. Public space is male space.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 31/08/2019 20:57

Agree GC

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 31/08/2019 20:58

Is there a reason why these urinals can’t have screens around them?

SleepyKat · 31/08/2019 21:04

But if a bloke pissed against a wall the police would and do ticket blokes for this, and I’m fairly sure one of the charges is having your knob out in public. So what’s the difference?

How long before some pervy flasher just stands back a bit more than he needs to, is a bit slow putting it away after he’s done and turns round with it still all out....getting a kick out of flashing his knob. And of course he won’t get in any trouble!

And yuck to the lack of sinks!

Sarcelle · 31/08/2019 21:05

There is a urinal near a taxi rank in Horseferry Road, Westminster. The difference is they are shielded from public view. Not sure why these examples can't also have a shield around them.

Leapyearlover · 31/08/2019 21:08

There is one near a traffic light near my home in Italy. Once I was on the bus going home and the bus driver got out at the red light, apologised and dashed off for a wee. Confused

Leapyearlover · 31/08/2019 21:12

I don't think the French are bothered about accidentally seeing willies. I went into a french toilet today - separate male and female cubicles with a communal basin....and urinal.

womaninthedark · 31/08/2019 21:18

I just very much dislike being forced to watch men pee

It's just another degradation that women have to put up with. How long before the principle of equitable provision comes along - "Oh, men pee in the street, why not women also? Squat over the grid, bitches, let the man with the smart phone film you!"

Feeling a little embittered tonight.

WatchoutfortheROUS · 31/08/2019 21:25

Past one of these by Soho Square yesterday with my DC. It stank and I thought it was disgusting. Why the hell can't men wait for an actual toilet, are they bloody incontinent toddlers or something?

LittleLongDog · 31/08/2019 21:26

Speaking to Reuters, Coipeault said they centre on the proposition that “men cannot control themselves…and so all of society has to adapt”.

This quote from the article posted upthread sums it up well.

WatchoutfortheROUS · 31/08/2019 21:26

Urgh though, grim
