I've just spent the last hour reading that thread, chilling.

Was going to post it here.

Jack Appleby asks:

If you're a man who's in agreement with the gender critical feminist position on trans stuff...

What made you get it?

Basically I'm interested in why some men get it and some men don't. Any thoughts..?

Hundreds of replies from men. Very heartening to read.

chilling19 · 07/08/2019 23:38

Yes I have just spent the same hour! Great stuff.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 07/08/2019 23:41

Thanks for posting that - very heartening

AnotherAdultHumanFemale · 07/08/2019 23:41

This gives me some hope in humanity, thanks for sharing. It is interesting how some men get it, and others don't. These men all have empathy, critical thinking skills, intelligence and are aware of safeguarding issues.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 07/08/2019 23:53

This is exactly what we need more of - men discussing it amongst themselves and sharing their experiences / reasons why

TurboTeddy · 07/08/2019 23:57

I'd just got into bed when I saw the thread so thought I'd take a look and now I know I'll have to finish reading. What an incredibly encouraging thread, the men posting there really seem to get the problems. Like PP said it gives me hope.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 07/08/2019 23:59

This time last year, this tweet would have got a handful of replies.

It’s fantastic to see that people are starting to become aware.

zebrasdontwearbras · 08/08/2019 00:01

Smile I love Jack Appleby.

WomanBornNotWorn · 08/08/2019 00:04

It's a great thread! I was beginning to wonder where they all were but this is heartening. So many mentioning what happened to Glinner as being part of their realisation something was wrong.

zebrasdontwearbras · 08/08/2019 00:06

Just the first reply when I clicked on that thread:

Son of a single mum 2nd wave feminist here. When she fought for women’s rights there were absolutely no global corporations or the police or media or charities on her side. Now men with beards or dresses - or even both - hate her and call her ‘terf’.

Yes! Exactly.

Thank you, the men.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 08/08/2019 00:10

Thank you Chilling for posting this. I needed cheering up and that thread is so thoughtful and positive - a great read and so many thoughtful insightful men (and women) on it.

chilling19 · 08/08/2019 00:21

I am glad it has cheered people up. It is good to have a space where we can share this stuff. MN has become a sanctuary for many of us I think. I also think the tide is turning.

It exposes the fragility of our intellects and our liberal ideals, that they can be so easily captured by such dangerous nonsense.

Wow. So true, it's scary.

Imnobody4 · 08/08/2019 00:32

Thanks for this. It's good to know men care.

NonnyMouse1337 · 08/08/2019 00:36

That's a great thread. Very heartwarming to see there are men who get it and are willing to speak up about it.

Graphista · 08/08/2019 00:57

No idea how to link Twitter stuff I'm afraid, but this

"Might have been easier for me to get than a lot of men because I work in the family justice system. I see the abuse of women by men and the abuse of children by adults all the time. I know what it looks like and how it works. The TRAs follow the textbook."

As a csa survivor myself really jumped out at me!

The TRA's are doing exactly what abusers have done for MILLENIA, minimising the harm being done, reframing it as "normal" and gaslighting ANYONE who criticises.

Dd peak transed only fairly recently but with a CRASH Grin

Her gay friends who are now starting to widen their horizons and socialise in the city rather than just locally have come up against some dodgy types and are talking about all this. We've discussed it on several occasions, she started off "what's the harm if people want to trans" but I then pointed her in the direction of issues in sport, healthcare, then prisons and known offenders identifying as trans (bit of an ageing shock that I had to explain who Ian Huntley was I'd forgotten she was little over 1 when the Soham murders happened!). She was reading more and discussing more with friends this culminated in one of her gay friends telling her about puberty blockers etc and it was like BANG!

We live quite rurally and in a heavily catholic area so pretty traditional in terms of male and female roles and actions, very much "say it like it is" types and if eg the local pool were to try this nonsense I suspect there'd be uproar!

It is indeed heartening to read and we can only hope people becoming aware of WHY self ID is so problematic, even dangerous that they'll see current trans ideology for the facade it is!

zebrasdontwearbras · 08/08/2019 01:17

I've not got that far through the replies yet - but certain things are jumping out. Lots are just "well, dur, it just never made any sense" and lots just saying "I read what gc women had to say, because I saw all this fuss..."

Lots mentioning @glinner (thanks glinner) but then saying they went on to read the work of fabulous feminist like Bindel, Stock, Ditum etc, and then really got it. Hines on R4 Woman's Hour has a special mention Wink Thanks Sally.

Subjects coming up most = males entering women's spaces, transing children, self ID open to abuse, women's sport.

A special mention to the protest at the London Pride Parade last year - he couldn't imagine why women would do such an awful thing, read up on it, and found he agreed with them! Julia Long & friends, I salute you.

All v heartening to read.

Goosefoot · 08/08/2019 01:47

I thought it was interesting how many talked about a specific woman as really influencing them.

AnotherAdultHumanFemale · 08/08/2019 01:49

I've just seen this on the twitter thread and it made me laugh out loud:

"If I dress up as a pantomime horse, that doesn't make me a horse!"

This thread is so good, reading so much sense, reason, intelligence, critical thinking and empathy is like breathing fresh cool air on a hot day.

MagneticSingularity · 08/08/2019 02:13

Very pleasantly surprised by that thread. I loved the fact that some men their credited their GC opinions to their second wave feminist mums who’d had to fight for the rights women have today and that we are seeing being rolled back in the name of inclusivity.

MagneticSingularity · 08/08/2019 02:14

*There not their.

zebrasdontwearbras · 08/08/2019 02:22

"Every bloke I know irl, when hearing about Yaniv...
"I'll wax his balls for him"
Then follows a description of their preferred method.
I've yet to hear the same method twice."

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 08/08/2019 07:23

Anyone else startled by the lack of abuse and TRA pile on Jack's thread?

Hmm, I wonder why that could possibly be.... Hmm

FermatsTheorem · 08/08/2019 07:47

Bloody brilliant Twitter thread. Thanks, Jack!

Gunk · 08/08/2019 08:20

Anyone else startled by the lack of abuse and TRA pile on Jack's thread?

I noticed that too. I still dare not tweet my own views!
