Transparency in terms of GC fundraisers

Obviously a fair bit of money has been raised and there have been some controversies such as Jennifer James admitting borrowing some of the cash for her own use. Thankfully she had the decency to admit that, apologise and seems to keep fairly open and transparent accounts. However, others do not. Would it therefore be a good thing if those who have raised a lot of money through fundraisers were to publish a detailed breakdown of their accounts? I'm sure every penny has gone back into campaigning of course, but by publishing those details it would silence those who maliciously make comments about people using money to pay for holidays etc.

I would like some transparency from Stonewall. Is Aimee Challenor still in the Trans Advisory board? Who are the other anonymous members?
Anyway - reminded me to bung the Girl Guiding fund.

DuMondeB · 05/08/2019 16:31

I’ve thrown loads of oddments of cash into whip rounds & collection buckets in my time, as well as given directly to homeless people. I even gave a tenner taxi fare to a crying girl at a train station once.

I don’t give more than I can afford to lose and wouldn’t dream of asking to see receipts. Online crowdfunders are no different.

SugarPlumFairyCakes · 05/08/2019 16:38

I can afford £10 a month, which used to go to mainstream charities before they became lobbying groups or one's with grossly inflated CEO and SLT team salaries, whilst the ground work and actually making a difference to people's lives is expected to done by volunteers.

I get paid on Friday, so this is a timely reminder to donate to one of the newer not to be mentioned things on here. Co-incidentally, very close to my heart, as I firmly believe these dedicated and inspiring local women volunteers have and will be left out to dry by the GG paid officials when there is an incident as a result of writing policies informed by lobbying groups, with no knowledge of safe guarding or the impact on girls and women.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 05/08/2019 17:11

However i would like far more transparency regarding which lobby groups are getting my taxes which i have no bloody choice over and seriously disagree with.

The Scottish Government as asking for input on this see here: www.parliament.scot/parliamentarybusiness/CurrentCommittees/112216.aspx

jhuizinga · 05/08/2019 17:43

Many thanks for the reminder that I hadn't donated, Minnie - now rectified.

LangCleg · 05/08/2019 17:47

What do you think about some forensics on lobbying for taxpayer funding, Minnie?

Could this be your next concern project?

Do let us know your thoughts!

birdsdestiny · 05/08/2019 17:50

I agree that it is important to think carefully about who you donate to and whether you are comfortable with the way they spend your money, it's why I stopped my direct debit to the NSPCC.

Thanks for reminder. Off to donate to various fundraisers.

The fight goes on

Juells · 05/08/2019 18:09

Turned on Sky News to watch the six o'clock news and see they're a Stonewall champion. They're like an octopus, with their tentacles in every aspect of our lives. Who funds them?

zebrasdontwearbras · 05/08/2019 18:11

Stonewall gets an awful lot of government funding, does it not? I certainly think we have a right to see where that goes. How detailed are Stonewall's accounts?

Juells · 05/08/2019 18:15

It's fucking hilarious, isn't it? All the LGB with the T charities and lobby groups and advisory bodies get money poured into them by governments and billionaire supporters, but the miserable few quid scraped together by women donating tenners is a huge scandal and must be investigated.

Lordamighty · 05/08/2019 19:01

Not only that but the amounts that do get donated to fight for women’s rights are then supposedly given by far right extremists, according to the TRAs on Twitter.
I donate my hard earned cash where & when I like, it’s not huge sums & I can well afford it. Also I am saving from cancelling my NSPCC direct debit, another charity that has become unfit for purpose.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 05/08/2019 19:04

A certain stretch target (set after the initial target was reached at lunchtime) has nearly been reached.
More thanks to the OP.

Really, it is outrageous. Women spending their hard earned cash to help other women defend their reputations after they have lost their paid/ unpaid professions due to the power Stonewall and its championing of more rights for biological males. Something needs to be done about it.

If someone doesn't do something those pesky women are going to ruin everything.

Why won't they just budge up like they're supposed to?

Oops sorry about that! I got an error message that it couldn't post so kept trying

(Well it was either that or the 2 small people climbing on me)

Pimmhead · 05/08/2019 19:22

I'm going to chuck a tenner in for Katie in your honour, Minnie.

Ornery · 05/08/2019 19:26

Ah, thanks Min. Just popped £50 into Katie’s fund. Don’t do it very often but will make sure VRR get the next one. Been pondering setting up a direct debit to them actually. Might get on that - thanks for the nudge.

FormerMediocreMale · 05/08/2019 19:36

Birdsfoottrefoil

Thanks, it seems to be open for one to write whatever, rather than a set format so need to work out exactly what to write. Can submit up to 4 sides of A4 but dont want it to be ranty.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 05/08/2019 19:43

So pleased to see another target hit in just an afternoon.

SophoclesTheFox · 05/08/2019 19:46

I think a really great crowdfunder for you, OP, would be one for the most enormous wooden spoon.
