Transparency in terms of GC fundraisers

Obviously a fair bit of money has been raised and there have been some controversies such as Jennifer James admitting borrowing some of the cash for her own use. Thankfully she had the decency to admit that, apologise and seems to keep fairly open and transparent accounts. However, others do not. Would it therefore be a good thing if those who have raised a lot of money through fundraisers were to publish a detailed breakdown of their accounts? I'm sure every penny has gone back into campaigning of course, but by publishing those details it would silence those who maliciously make comments about people using money to pay for holidays etc.

Somehow this thread is reminding me of the constant claims from TRAs that women's groups like FPFW in the UK are funded by right wing American plutocrats. I can't think why.

It's a bizarre claim. It's almost as if anti women activists don't know that women these days actually earn our own money and can run stuff all by ourselves.

Revolutionary stuff to some. Our own money and we are allowed to decide what to spend it on. Mind boggling...

truthisarevolutionaryact · 05/08/2019 14:05

Yay!!!! It's just happened. Well done OP!

TemporaryPermanent · 05/08/2019 14:09

Unlabelled not unravelled...

morningtoncrescent62 · 05/08/2019 14:09

Darn, missed the window. I'll have to contribute to the stretch target now.

LangCleg · 05/08/2019 14:13

Gosh, thank you for this thread, Minnie.

Truly productive!

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 05/08/2019 14:15

Can anyone remind me how quickly Maya Forstater's crowd-justice campaign reached its target?

I know that by the time I heard about it, it had already surpassed its target

Remarkable really. Real David and Goliath stuff

littlbrowndog · 05/08/2019 14:25

I think it was about 4 days ?

Goosefoot · 05/08/2019 14:29

I only give to crowdfunders where i am happy to take the risk that I am basically putting money into an unravelled bucket. I understand there's a risk, so far I am pretty happy with the few crowd funding donations I've made.

I think this is the key, you need to be aware. When crowd-funding first started there seemed to be some people who didn't really clue in that it wasn't like a registered charity with oversight, and then there were some scandals where people misused funds in various ways.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 05/08/2019 14:35

Good grief OP - you must have some influence - something we can't name has wings. It's positively soaring.

Hellmistress · 05/08/2019 14:48

I usually donate relatively modest amounts and I don't care how they are used. There's either trust or there isn't.

zebrasdontwearbras · 05/08/2019 14:55

I'm also quite happy with where my donations have gone.

Thanks for your concern, though MinnetheSphinx - because from your posting history here it's not at all obvious you're a tra-type trying to cause a ruckus.

Littlebrowndog - thanks - 4 days for Maya Forstater to raise £60k. Remarkable

It's almost as if there are thousands of p*ssed off women out there who have had enough of being taken advantage of

Datun · 05/08/2019 15:07

Thanks for the reminder. "Expelled from GirlGuiding because of my Gender Critical Beliefs" just got another twenty of my widow's mites.

"Of course it did"

I'm not sure you're actually getting it, minnie. Women are funding this with fivers and tenners. (Some give more).

And of course, if people try to shut it down it's going to spur women on to give even more. To dig deeper. I don't understand why you don't get that.

It's not a game.

Women want this.

Hellmistress · 05/08/2019 15:16

Due to Minnie's goady stirring I've just donated another 50CAN to Vancouver Rape Relief in revenge.

It's my money and I'll do what I want with it, OK?

Lordamighty · 05/08/2019 15:17

Thanks for the reminder OP, there’s another one I needed to donate to.

Aberhonddu · 05/08/2019 15:18

Thanks Minnie, I had completely forgotten to contribute so this thread is a timely reminder.

christinarossetti19 · 05/08/2019 15:21

How quaint Minnie.

You seem to think that hard facts will 'silence those who maliciously make comments' to discredit GC causes.

If only they did. GC causes and campaigns would have succeeded years ago, given that they are based on hard facts and evidence.

Popchyk · 05/08/2019 15:27

I see it as money spent to raise awareness.

These fundraising actions have raised a lot of publicity about what exactly the anti-women activists are up to. The AWAs operate in the shadows, so anything to shine a light is worth funding in my view. Mainstream media is taking an interest now partly because of these fundraisers.

The crowdjustice fundraisers go directly to the solicitors involved. The creators of the crowdjustice fundraisers never see the money themselves.

These are actual solicitors of course, not self-identifying lawyers who are barred from entering the profession.

yulet · 05/08/2019 15:42

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Oh dear Minnie. You're sounding increasingly desperate.

unwashedanddazed · 05/08/2019 15:57

I bloody love the women of FWR Grin

bettybeans · 05/08/2019 16:10

All these bloody difficult women doing what they want with their own money. Glorious.

Needmoresleep · 05/08/2019 16:16

Not an issue for registered charities like Mermaids and Stall, as they have to publish their figures.

But remind me...who sits on the Stonewall trans gender policy committee....ooops, some decided to remain anonymous. Aimee Challenor's name has just been taken off their website. Nothing on Twitter so we have no idea whether she is resigned or simply decided to go incognito. Ditto till a few years back, some Mermaids trustees decided to remain anonymous. Luckily their trustee turnover is so rapid that this is no longer an issue.

So Minnie, who do you have an issue with? Affluent charities like Stonewall and Mermaids raking in lots of money via Lottery and various training and policy advice contracts. Fat cats like Edward Lord, Meg-John Barker and Pips Bunce who pick up lucrative speaking gigs. Or women who need to crowd-fund either to defend themselves or to fight for justice.

FormerMediocreMale · 05/08/2019 16:26

Crowdjustice contributions go direct to solicitors so more than happy to fund with what i can afford.

I dont require additional transparency, if i did id ask solicitird concerned

FormerMediocreMale · 05/08/2019 16:28

However i would like far more transparency regarding which lobby groups are getting my taxes which i have no bloody choice over and seriously disagree with.
